New Sister
Tears
We get to the familiar house of Davina. I tried to relax. She was with her, she was safe, but that didn’t rely help. It had taken me so long to calm my mom down. At the moment, I hated the girl. Okay, I understand she doesn’t want to be in Doncaster, nobody asked her what she wanted, but to run off to another freaking country. Seriously, what was she thinking? Probably nothing. If she’d thought about it for one second, she wouldn’t have done it. “Relax,” I say to Harry. He’s been freaking annoying ever since we decided to go here. I didn’t want to admit it to myself, but I think that he might… no probably wants to be more than friends with Liz. I mean, he’s so protective, even more than of he is of Gemma. I don’t like the idea. I mean, I know I have actually no right to say anything about it, because Liz made it painfully clear that she doesn’t consider me her brother, but I can’t help it. It just feels wrong. “Sorry,” he murmurs. He nearly jumps out of the car when it stops. I pay the cabdriver and follow Harry, who is already ringing the bell, and doesn’t stop until somebody opens the door. It is one of Davina’s little sisters, Gaya, I thought. Her eyes grow big. “Gaya, who is at the door?” a male voice called, their dad. She still looks at us with big eyes, it is adorable. “Gaya!” She finally steps aside to let us in. When we enter the living room, we see Davina curled up at the couch, crying her eyes out. Her father and another boy sit beside her, trying to comfort her. Her father gets up. “Bastiaen.” He introduces himself to us. “That is Laurens.” “What happened?” Bastiaen sighs. “Take a seat.”
“Yesterday, during her lunchbreak, Davy called me. She told me that Elizabeth had shown up at her school and that she’d be staying for a while. I called you, as you asked. This morning, Elizabeth went with Davy to Middelburg. She was going to go to Domburg to spend her day, because nobody would be here. She’d agreed with Davy that she’d pick her up from school, but… She never showed up.”
