New Sister
Ghost
“Why did you never tell me?” Mila asked after I’d finished. “You don’t get it, do you? He made me ready to give up on you.” Davina and Mila both hugged me. “We’d never let you, you know that.” Davina said. “And you’re sure he was there?” I bit my lip. “I wish I could say no.” Did I? Because I don’t know what scared me more: A real Tyson or a ghost one hunting me.
“Liz, I have something for you,” Davina said, with a concerned look. It was an envelope with only my name on it. I tore the thing open and feared the content.
Dear Liz,
I hope you enjoyed the festival. I have to say you were right, the acts were awesome. And to see you so happy with Mila and Davina was delightful. Also, enjoy the rest of your stay here. It’ll give you a taste of the freedom I can give you. I will give you. Don’t you worry. Before the new year starts, we’ll be together again.
“Are you okay?” Zayn asked. I nodded, though I felt suffocated. Even here. And I was right after all, he even followed me here. And what I said earlier? Yeah, a real Tyson was definitely scarier than a ghost. A ghost wouldn’t hurt me and who knows what he was planning? “I just… need to…” And I didn’t finish my sentence, but went outside.
The sun shone bright and it was busy in the village. I didn’t know where to go. I kept looking over my shoulder and felt kind of paranoia. It was as if my feet automatically brought me where I apparently wanted to be: the lake. I walked around it twice and then claimed a dock. It was quiet, which is a good thing I guess. Though, it made me think. Too much. Way too much. I replayed last night and shivered. Why couldn’t my life be normal? I don’t need this drama. I sighed, took out the letter and a lighter. Guess destroying the evidence wouldn’t make the problem go away, but it would definitely make me feel better. I waited until the flames nearly burned my fingers and then dropped it in the water. I heard footsteps and tightened. “I knew you’d be here,” Davina laughed. “Remember how we used to play here? And your dad would always chase us away from the water, while we wanted to play with the ducks?” I smiled. Great times. “I can’t take this anymore Davy. Is it too much to ask for a normal life?”
