New Sister
A new family
I sit in a chair with Mila, my best friend, next to me. I didn't listen to what the woman said. I still replayed yesterday in my head. The funeral of my dad. The only family I had. He had no siblings and I had no clue who my mom was. My grandparents passed away years ago, so here I was, alone. "So, you can leave within two days." "Wait, what?"I interrupt the woman. "Ms Tomlinson will be here tomorrow and help you to sort things out so you can leave within two days," she repeats herself, slightly annoyed. Mila grabs my hand. "I don't want to. I can handle my self very well." "Elizabeth, you have to realise you are very lucky that those people are willing to take care of you. The alternative is an orphanage." Great, so those people were going to chase me away from my own house. But, I supposed,I had no choice. Well, it would only be for two and a half year, right? I tried to comfort myself with that thought, but it had the opposite effect. How was I going to survive two and a half year without Mila? "Is there a place you can stay tonight?" I wanted to reply 'home', but Mila was quicker. "With me." The woman nodded. "Good Luck Elizabeth," she said while she got up and shook my hand. Good luck with what? Living a miserable life?
"Verdomme!" I cursed when we were outside. Oh, I probably forgot to mention this. My dad is... Sorry, was Dutch, so he raised me with Dutch as my first language. And spending my holidays in Renesse, a village where teens hanged out to get drunk and all, I also learned to curse. Pretty convenient, nobody will correct me, because they don't know what I am saying. "Relax, we'll find a way out," Mila tried to reassure me. "No Mila, don't you get it? Because, even if we do, your mom would turn me in immediately when she sees me. There is no way out."
