My Love Apocalypse
Chapter 38
Alyssa's P.O.V.
"So Carla, tell me about you." I said happily, trying to get to know her better. Carla's smile suddenly dropped.
"Well, my parents kinda abandoned me when I was about 5." She softly murmured. My jaw dropped, I didn't know how to respond.
Before I could think of a response, she quickly added, "I had to start helping myself."
I just did what I could do, I embraced Carla into a large hug, squeezing her a bit. The thought of being abandoned made tears start swelling in my eyes.
"I am so sorry." I muffled into her long black hair. I could feel her tears starting to soak the sleeve of my shirt, but I didn't care.
I pulled away and looked her in the eyes. "Would you like to tell me about it?" I asked her quietly.
Carla looked thoughtful and slowly nodded. "My family was always very poor. When I woke up one night, I went downstairs to get a glass of water. When I was getting it, I noticed everything was gone and I heard the car driving away. I just started crying, so yeah, that's how it began."
I was full of questions so I started with my most important one. "How did you survive sweetie, especially during the apocalypse?"
I saw tears slipping down her cheeks and she slowly whispered "Please, I don't want to talk about it anymore."
I quickly understood and I played with her in her room all day, trying to cheer her up. It turned about 9:45 P.M. so I said goodnight to everyone and took Carla upstairs with me. I led the two of us into Zayn and I's bedroom.
Even though she was 8, I still picked her up like a toddler and plopped her on the bed next to me.
About 10 minutes later, Zayn walked in with just some sweatpants on. "Hey babe." He kissed me on the cheek and laid behind me so I was stuck between the middle of them.
I quickly told Zayn what Carla told me and he suddenly felt bad. Zayn tapped on Carla's shoulder and whispered, "Hey, what's your favorite movie?"
"I really like Pitch Perfect. If that's okay." She said with a smile growing on her face.
"Oh, that's one of my favorite's too!" Zayn was just getting ready to put it on when Carla interrupted him.
"Wait, could we watch This Is Us instead? I never got to see it." Carla added.
Zayn became really happy and he quickly turned it on from the demand channel. Carla kept saying how she was gonna try to stay up for the whole movie, but she only stayed up for about half an hour.
Once Carla fell asleep, I switched spots with her so she was now in the middle. Zayn and I both cuddled her and soon fell asleep.
