I thought about the dream over and over. I thought about what I would do if I ever saw Liam again, what I would do if it happened again. Not like time’s gonna rewind for me, but… I couldn’t help it but think. I came up with the conclusion that I actually did like Liam. He was nice, funny smart, everything I fantasized about in a guy. But I never honestly faced my true feelings with all the pressure from popularity.
I thought that if I were to see the bullies again, I would tell them off, to stop making fun of Liam as I take out the trash. As it was magic, I looked up and saw Alex right in my driveway with sunglasses sitting against his nose as he leans against his silver Hyundai.
“Alex?”
“Hey babe,” he replied while looking at me with his head lowered, like the guys in the movies do when they’re checking girls out.
I frowned at the word “babe”. Who does he think he is?
“What are you doing here?” I asked as politely as I could.
“What do you mean?” He smirked, “you said to see me around right? I’m picking you up for school.”
“Uh… Don’t you have to go to your own school? Or what, you go to the same school as me?” I joked.
“I do now ever since I transferred,” he said it like it was no big deal.
“Haha?” I laughed, expecting this to be some kind of joke.
Alex frowned, “lets go”
“OK,” I agreed just to see where he would take me.
I sat inside the Hyundai after he opened the door for me. It was very clean and cool inside the car.
“So, Coke” Alex started.
“Yeah?”
“What happened to that nerd after the dance?” he snickered.
I didn’t reply, so he continued.
“Man that was some awesome dissing. I would say that butt-face got what he deserved. His face was hilarious, and what did he say? Just you wait and see? Haha I should have taped that, that nerd…”
He kept talking but I heard nothing. I lowered my head so he couldn’t see my face. It was suddenly like I was on fire. The fire got bigger and bigger with every insult he made about Liam, every name he called Liam. Finally, like a volcano, I exploded.
I grabbed his shirt and screamed in his face as the car halted to a stop. “HES NAME IS LIAM YOU ASS, HIS FUCKING NAME ISLIAM PAYNE. HES BETTER THAN YOU AT EVERYTHING EXCEPT BEING AN ASS YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO TALK ABOUT HIM THAT WAY. I DON’T GIVE A FUCK IF YOU TRANSFERRED TO MY SCHOOL I HATE YOU AND DON’T FUCKING TALK TO ME AGAIN.”
His reaction was totally stunned. Eyes wide and mouth hanging open. I should have gotten that on tape!
I turned away when I heard a car honk. I saw cars all around us. We have caused a traffic jam by stopping in the middle of the road.
I lookedback at Alex, still with that idiotic expression on his face.
“Now will you excuse me.” I said to him.
His expression remained the same as his eyeballs followed me right out of the car. I thought I heard the sound of a muffled cry behind me but I was too mad to look at that idiot again. He can deal with the traffic jam since he’s SO GREAT.
I giggled to myself, “I did it” I whispered, “I stood up for Liam.”
