Summer Love
Two
The alarm clock started screeching, signaling that it was time to wake up. I opened one of my eyes, pulling one of my arms out of the warm covers and slamming the snooze button with my hand. I looked over at Abbey's bed, she had pulled the bed sheets over the top of her head, I'm assuming to block out the noise, why hadn't I thought of that?
I sat up, swinging my legs off of the side of the bed. If I was at home, during the holidays I would sleep till 12pm every single day... This was way too early for me. I remembered that we had to be in the breakfast hall by 9am so I only had half an hour to get ready. I went into the bathroom, pulling my wavy hair up into a high ponytail, brushing my teeth, washing my face then I started to apply my makeup. Since we were doing watersports today I decided there was no point in wearing foundation or much makeup at all really, I applied some waterproof mascara to my lashes and a generous amount of lipbalm. I chucked them back into my makeup bag zipping it up and going back into the bedroom. Abbey was awake, looking as flawless as ever. She walked straight past me without a word into the bathroom shutting the door behind her.
I went over to the wardrobe where I had all my clothes in, I quickly but a black bikini on and some shorts on with a white vestop. I slipped on my grey vans, without any socks and waited for Abbey to come out of the bathroom so we could walk to breakfast together.
Once she was ready we grabbed one of the keys to let us back in shoving it under the plant pot that was in front of our cabin. The breakfast hall was less than a two minute walk away so it didn't take long. Once we were in there we went and lined up for food, I opted for the toast option, whilst Abbey went for the full english. We looked around for somewhere to sit, we saw Harry, Louis, Niall, Zayn and Liam sitting on a table eating with a table full of girls. So much for saving us a seat. We sat down at an empty table by ourselves eating slowly. I wasn't hungry anymore, I felt myself glancing over to the boys table several times out of curiosity, I knew it was stupid of me getting 'funny' and maybe even a little jealous over them not saving us a place, but them girls were just using them because they were famous, I barley even knew them before yesterday, I genuinally just wanted to be friends with them.
Abbey was still eating her food slowly, she hadn't talked much at all this morning. I could tell that something was bothering her, but I didn't know wether it was my place to since I hadn't known her very long, but when she finished eating and was just staring into space, you could tell that she was really upset about something... she just looked empty.
"Are you alright Abbey?" I asked.
She shook her head a few times, blinking rapidly, I'm assuming she was trying not to cry. I didn't know wether to keep pressing her for an answer, I didn't want to upset her but I knew that from personal experience keeping things in is not always the best solution.
"Do you wanna talk about it?" I asked again.
"I-Uh last night.... me and my boyfriend broke up."
I shot her a sympathetic smile, reaching over, placing my hand on top of hers to comfort her.
"We'd been together for two years. I know most people don't believe that you can be 'in love' at our age, but I really thought we were. I still love him. He said that me being away for six weeks would put too much pressure on our relationship, and basically it wasn't worth it. What hurts the most is that he's willing just too chuck the two years we've had together away so easily and by text. I don't want to cry over him but I can't help it. I just really miss him." Abbey explained further.
"He's a twat to be honest. You're beautiful, you could have any guy you want, you definitely do not need him. Let's just have fun today, make new friends, maybe you'll even find a summer love." I said winking.
"Hmm maybe. Bit to early too be thinking about another love. But you're right about having fun today, I love watersports so I'ma kick your arse!" She said laughing, with the first genuine smile I had seen on her face all day.
We got up leaving our plates on the table and walking outside. Everyone was meeting down by the lake, then we were all getting sorted into groups going into individual watersports which were jetskiing, water polo, water aerobics, canoeing, rowing, kayaking. Personally I wanted the water polo one just because it seemed like the most fun, but we didn't have any choice which group we were going in they had already all been sorted out. Once we got down to the lake there was already quite a few people here, and all of the leaders. I sat down on the grass, awaiting further instruction from the leaders.
About ten minutes later we started getting sorted out into groups, luckily I was still with Abbey otherwise I'd be a complete loner. We walked over to the water polo group, as the leaders carried on putting people into their groups. For water polo there was two teams, a girl team and a boy team with seven players on each team. In the girl team there was me, Abbey, Chloe, Anna, Katie, Lucy and Jess in the boy team was Harry, Liam, Niall, Zayn, Louis, Arthur and Greg. Well this was going to be a bundle of fun. Chloe, Anna, Katie, Lucy and Jess had been sitting with the boys at breakfast when they ditched us.
We all went over to the lake, I pulled my t-shirt and shorts off chucking them in a pile on the floor so I was just left in my black bikini. I looked over at Harry just as he was pulling off his top which clung to his torso perfectly. He pulled it off slowly as if to add effect and chucked it on the ground. We caught eyes and I quickly looked away, blushing slightly. I didn't want him to think that I was watching him. The two teams all rushed into the warm water, as the leader who's name was Simon started to explain the rules.
Basically, all you had to do was defend the other team and try and get the ball into the goal by throwing it sort of like hand ball, it was a timed game of ten minutes so whoever scored the most goals in ten minutes won. It seemed like a relatively easy game to play, the only bit I didn't like about it was that it was a contact sport and we were playing against boys which meant at least one of us was properly going to get hurt.
Simon blew the whistle signaling that the game had begun. The ball went flying towards me and I jumped up to grab it, splashing back down on the water. I threw the ball towards Abbey who was quite far away from me, but I didn't really know the other girls so I didn't really want to throw it to them. I wasn't suprised when Abbey missed it, giving Niall the oppurtunity to grab the ball chucking it to Liam, who threw it to Greg who threw it to Zayn who chucked it past Jess into the goal scoring. The girl called Chloe took the ball next for our team chucking it to Anna who chucked it to Katie who then tried to chuck it too me, as I went to grab the ball I felt my body get lifted out of the water which made me scream and get chucked to the side. I went underwater for a second, coming back up fast and using my hands to wipe the water out of my face. Harry mouthed a 'sorry' at me, chucking the ball he had in his hands to Louis who threw it to Arthur who then threw the ball into the goal so they scored again.
"You arsehole!" I shouted at Harry.
"Hey, I said I was sorry!" Harry said laughing.
Since he was still quite close to me, I pushed my hands against the water and let go which covered him in a huge splash of water.
"Oh oops sorry." I said sarcastically, causing me to burst out laughing.
Harry's eyes narrowed at me, as he did the exact same thing covering me in an even bigger splash of water. Chloe took the ball again from the sidelines, I focused staring at her and raising my arms into the air ready to catch the ball. I could feel her staring hard at me and it was making me feel uncomfortable. It got even worse when she finally released the ball and it hit me directly on the forehead. That was on purpose, no doubt about it. What the hell was her problem!? I decided to brush it off for now, and bring her up on it later.
We carried on playing the game, obviously the boys won 5-1 but I could be happy in saying that I scored the only goal on the girls team, so at least it was something. I swam over to the edge of the lake, climbing out of the water and taking the towel that was handed to me from Simon. I said "thanks" wrapping it around my body and waiting for Abbey to come out.
"Good effort, even though you lost."
I could recognise that voice anywhere. I turned around to face Harry who had a smug smile plastered on his face.
"Well for your information, we would have won if you hadn't of lifted me out of the water and chucked me when I was about to get the ball, it threw our team off." I said making up excuses.
"Sure, sure whatever helps you sleep at night. Which reminds me you still have my jumper."
"Oh yeah, I can go back and get it now if you want?"
"It's alright, looks better on you anyway. Anyway better go see the boys now, see ya at lunch we'll save you a seat!"
"Sure, like you were gonna save us one this morning." I said sarcastically.
"That wasn't our fault, them girls just sat down next to us."
"See you at lunch Harry." I said.
He leaned forward pulling me into a hug. I rested my head on his shoulder for a moment, taking in his warmth. "you look hot in a bikini by the way." He whispered into my ear.
He let go of me, sending me a wink and walking away. My stomuch was full of knots and butterflies. Abbey bounced over to me, with a huge grin on her face. Something exciting must of happened.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Well, I saw you and Harry hug and he definitely whispered something in your ear cause I saw his lips move then you blushed like crazy and well that's it but tell me everything!" She said quickly.
"It's not a big deal... He just said "you look hot in a bikini by the way." That's it." I said casually trying to make it not look like a big deal.
"Oh my god! That's it? That's huge! You barley know the boys and he's said that do you know how many girls wish that he would say that to them!" She said slightly fangirling.
"Okay, okay calm down." I said laughing. "We're eating lunch with them aswell, I think he'll save us a place this time."
"Alrighttttt." She said dragging out the 't'.

We made our way into the lunch hall, we'd already been back to our cabin and changed into some new, fresh clothes. We spotted the boys straight away, suprisingly they were sitting alone with two spare seats as promised. Me and Abbey lined up to get some food, I grabbed a tuna sandwich, bag of ready salted crisps, and a can of diet coke. I made my way over to them, sitting down at the free seat next to Harry. They all muttered a "hi" in unison, whilst stuffing food into their mouths. Charming.
Abbey joined us about a minute later taking the free seat oposite me and tucking into her lunch. I started to break bits off of my sandwich, then eating it. Eating in front of people was my worst 'fear' I don't know why but I just hated it, I'd rather be alone with no one near me when I was eating. So now I was eating as delicatly as I could, trying to not look like a pig.
There was a comfortable silence most of lunch, Harry starting a conversation with me a few times and me returning it. For some reason I didn't feel as comfortable talking to him in front of everyone else, I felt more nervous which was weird because I was completly fine talking to all of the other boys.
Once lunch had finished I got up to put all my stuff in the bin, Harry following closely behind. I shoved my rubbish into the bin. When I turned round Harry was waiting there with a half smile on his face.
"Let's go talk, come for a walk?" Harry said smoothly.
"Sure." I said nodding my head.
I wonder what he wanted to talk about...
