Love Will Tell Us Where To Go

Chapter 38

“You have the tickets, right? We can’t forget the tickets.” I frantically looked around my room once again making sure I didn’t forget to pack anything as I waited on his answer.

“Yes, babe. I have the tickets.” he replied with a laugh.

I’m not nervous about leaving anymore. As in, I know we are doing the right thing. But as far as the actual leaving goes…yeah, I’m a wreck.

I know it seems silly with how much I’ve traveled, but that’s the problem. I’ve had too many things go wrong before. I just want everything to go according to plan.

“Alright.” I said as I sat on my bed. “I’m done.”

“You sure?” he asked.

“Positive.” I replied.

“I guess that means I can put the luggage in the car now.”

“I’ll help.” I stood up and walked over to pick up some stuff when Harry took them from me.

“It’s fine, I got it. You should probably write that note for your mother.”

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.

“I knew I’d forget something.” I said with a smile.

“That’s why you need me!” he exclaimed before kissing me. “I’ll try to be quick. Hopefully we’ll still get to eat.” We’re a little behind schedule. It turns out that staying up late doesn’t help you get up early.

So as he took our bags to my car, I found a piece of paper and a pencil. I’ll leave it in her office, so I might as well write it in there too. I told Harry what I was doing on my way to the main house.

Every time I go back in this house, the more I don’t want to leave it. And this time is no different. But I momentarily push those feeling aside and go to one of the few rooms in this house I won’t mind never seeing again.

It’s weird being in her office when she’s not here. I decide to sit behind the desk in the chair she always sits in. I’ve never sat in her office chair before. I was never allowed to.

I sat there looking around the room a moment before starting the note. I find it hard to put what I need to say into words. Mainly because I have to make sure I write what I’m suppose to say, not what I wish I could say. Now is not the time for that.

It takes me longer than I expected, but I finally write it:

“Dear mother,

The first thing you should know is that I am fine. I decided to go with Harry and his family to America to see his grandparents anyway. I’m sorry, but I had to go. I’ll let you know when I’ll be taking a plane to our new house in Australia as soon as I can. It will be a while though.
See you later.”

I hope that last line really does turn out to be a lie.

Luckily we ended up having enough time to eat a small breakfast. As soon as we were done, I checked my bedrooms one last time, just in case I forgot something. That, and I really wanted to see them one more time.

“Love, I’m sorry but…we really do need to go now.” I love how nice he is to me. I swear, he is the sweetest and most considerate person I have ever met.

“Yeah, you’re right. Let’s go!” I said with sudden enthusiasm. It’s starting to hit me again…we’re going to America.

We somehow manage to get to the airport right on time. Of course the whole process is still a pain, but at least we still have time to spare once we’re done. And so far, nothing has gone wrong.

“Are you sure this is the right gate?” Harry asked as he looked around.

“Yes, I’m sure.” I let out a laugh. “Now who’s being paranoid?”

“I guess paranoia is contagious.”

I playfully hit him before checking that we were at the right gate. I really am paranoid.

We only had fifteen minutes to spare, so we ended up hanging around the gate area. I didn’t want to start listening to the audio book I planned to listen to on the plane, so instead I texted Chloe.

And then I remembered time zones exist.

“I wish Chloe was awake. She won’t get my text for hours.”

“I’m texting the guys right now.” he grinned from ear to ear. “It’s a group messaging kind of thing.”

“You mean they’re all up this early? That’s surprising.”

“Yeah. They all said they’d be up and wanted me to tell them when we left. They just wanted to know that everything went well. Plus if something did go wrong, they’d be able to help if they could. How awesome are they?”

“Very.” I replied. “They are very awesome.” They really are.

As soon as the announcement was made for our flight, Harry and I looked at each other. Our eyes widened and we smiled. This is it. We’re getting on a plane. We’re really doing this.

“One second.” he said as we both stood up from out seats. “I’m telling the guys. Hey, come here. I want to take a picture for them.”

He pulled me close to him and we made the most extreme happy faces ever. We both laughed as he sent the picture along with “Time for us to go to America!”

We then received various responses between excitement for us, comments on how cute we are together, and telling us to be safe. It was both hilarious and sweet.

We made our way in the plane and searched for our seats. I’m so glad we got the seats I wanted. I sat next to the window and Harry next to me. There was probably going to be someone next him.

I looked out the window as Harry put the luggage we brought in the overhead storage.

“I can’t believe we’re doing this!” he exclaimed. “We’re going to America. I’ve always wanted to go there.” His face lit up as he continued talking about how excited he is. It was absolutely adorable.

“It really is exciting.” I replied with a smile. “And there isn’t anyone else I’d rather be doing this with.”

He gave me a quick kiss on the lips before we began to laugh for no reason. I think we’re partially delirious from not enough sleep.

“I’m so tired.” he said. “We should have bought some coffee.”

“I thought about it, but I just didn’t want to be late.” I replied. “Besides, sleeping is the best thing to make time pass by on a plane.”

“Maybe for you. It was impossible for me to sleep the last two times I was on a plane. I doubt it will be any different today.” He sighed quietly. “But I have you now, so it all works out.”

“You could listen to a book. Or music.” I began searching for his iPod. I assumed he would go with the music. I was right.

I got out my Kindle as well, but we waited until the plane took off. A woman ended up sitting next to Harry, but she didn’t have a child, so that was good. Although there was one a few rows back. Luckily it was quiet so far.

As soon as we could, I put my earbuds in and to listen to “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green. I had read another book by him and loved it, and since this came out last month, I couldn’t resist not reading it too. Plus John Green is awesome.

Harry grabbed my hand as we began to take off. The look on his face was a mixture of pretend fear and the real thing.

“It’s fine, babe.” I said quietly before intertwining our arms.

I looked out the window and watched the ground get farther and farther away from us. It didn’t take long before we were in the air and above the city of London. I’ll never get over how tiny everything looks from up here.

I felt a pit in my stomach as I looked down at a city I love so much. I wish we didn’t have to leave.

But despite that, I felt a sense of hope as well. This is it. A new beginning. A new chapter in my life.

It wasn’t until I felt Harry’s head resting against my shoulder that I realized I hadn’t started listening to the book yet.

He had his eyes closed and was listening to music, so I figured it would be okay for me to start the book.

I was halfway through the first chapter when I noticed that Harry had fallen asleep. I let out a small laugh before realizing something.

This is the first time he’s ever fell asleep on a plane. I smile to myself before resting my head on his.

A little over halfway through the flight I was bawling my eyes out. I accidentally woke up Harry who had slept surprisingly undisturbed for the past seven and a half hours except for occasionally changing the position he was in.

“What’s wrong? Megan, are you okay?”

Ouch, that last word hurt.

I explained why I was crying and he began to laugh.

“Shut up!” I exclaimed before slapping his arm. “You try reading this book and not crying.”

“You finished it and didn’t sleep at all?” he asked.

“Yes. I was - I’m tired, but this was more important.”

“How about I listen to it while you rest? Don’t want to be sleepy when we go eat and hang out in
North Carolina for a bit, now do ya?”

Sleep sounded great, actually. And I think I might actually sleep well despite what I just put my heart through. Man, that is the most beautifully heart breaking books I’ve ever read.

I gave the Kindle to Harry, and as soon as he started the book, I rested my head on his shoulder. I looped my arms through his and breathed him in. Perfect.

Until a baby started crying and a few people started talking a bit too much and way too loud. But then I got my iPod and drowned them out with music.

Five hours flew by.

I woke up a few minutes before the plane was scheduled to land. I felt more awake than I had earlier.

Harry was obviously very into the book. His eyes concentrated on the back of the seat in front of him. It was like he was in another world. And he kind of was, really.

Suddenly he covered his opened mouth with his hand in shock. I wonder what part he’s at.

“Harry, love, the flight will be over soon. You should probably - “

“No! Not right now! I can’t just stop listening right when - “

“Shh, shh…no, no, no.” I said as I held my pointer finger against his mouth too keep him quiet.

“No spoilers.”

“What are you talking about? You just read it.”

“But other people might not have yet.” I said. “I hate when I over hear a spoiler from a book I haven’t read yet.”

“Thanks.” the silent up until this point lady next to Harry said.

Harry and I excitedly began discussing the things we might do once we land. We were both starving, so eating was a must. By the time we get off the plane, that’s most likely all we’ll have time to do. We don’t mind, though. We did it. We made it this far without a single problem.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited and terrified at the same time. That is until an announcement is made that because there is too much fog, we will be landing in Raleigh, not Charlotte, which is about two and a half hours away.

“What? But - no, no…we’re going to miss our train!” I can’t believe this. Everything was going so well. I should have known.

“But…now what?” he asked in shock.

“We won’t get there until about 4:15. Then we’ll have to rent a car to drive to Charlotte. We won’t get there until well after 6:45, and our train leaves at 6:00.” I buried my face in my hands as I started taking deep breaths.

“It’ll be oka - alright, Megan.” He began rubbing my back as I continued to hide my face. “This is just a small set back. Once we get to Raleigh we can get some food, get on the website we got on before, and get a ticket for tomorrow.”

He’s right. This isn’t as big of a deal as it seems. We just won’t be getting to our destination as soon as we planned.

I just hope nothing else goes wrong.

“Everything will be fine, love.” I sat up again and smiled a bit at the reassuring look on his face.

“There’s that beautiful smile I love.” he said. “Much better. Besides, I think we’re over looking a very happy fact.”

“What?” I asked.

“We’re in America.”

Update.! Love this story.! :)

@iamsuchaoneDfan Aw, thank you very much! I'm so glad you like it so far. :)

I barely read the first chapter and I already love this story

@Nialls Girl_25_10 Good question! I honestly didn't think of that. I probably could have made it work, but the thing is, Niall is a senior in high school. I could have had him drop out like Harry but I really wouldn't have wanted to have him drop out too.

Thanks for asking! Sorry Niall isn't in it right now. But I can tell you that he'll be back eventually. ;) I'll be updating Friday. :)
