Loved You First (Sequel to Simon's Daughter)

Chapter 9

Niall’s POV:
I didn’t even want to be here. The boys basically dragged me here in the first place. I know it’s Liam’s birthday and all, but I’m just not in the mood for all this…especially when Julia is here. I laid my head on the bar counter hoping everybody would just leave me alone. That’s when I heard the all-too-familiar voice. I sat up from my position and turned to face her. She was looking right back at me. I quickly averted my eyes, and I heard her sigh.

“Niall, we need to talk…” I heard her say. I nodded my head, still not looking at her.

“About what?” I replied, receiving my drink from the bartender, as did she.

“You know what I’m talking about.” She scoffed, taking a sip from her drink as I finally looked at her.

“I just don’t see how you could lie to me yet again. Isn’t that what caused our big fight? Why would you want that to happen again?” I snapped at her.

“Niall, look—“ She said, but I interrupted.

“This isn’t the place to talk about it.” I mumbled, drinking the rest of my drink then heading towards the exit. I stepped outside and felt the nice breeze hit my face. Before I could actually get anywhere, I felt a hand pull me back. I spun around to face Julia.

“Niall, I understand that you’re mad at me, but I have my reasons.” She said, folding her arms over her chest.

“Oh really? You had reasons to keep my daughter a secret from me? For not telling me when you immediately found out?” I asked, raising my eyebrows.

“Well when I found out I was pregnant, I didn’t know if it was yours, okay!? Plus, you said you never wanted to speak to me again, what the hell was I supposed to do?” Her voice raised and I could see her face getting red with anger.

“You could have told me! It’s still my daughter!” I yelled back, even though she did have a point.

“You’re right. I should have called you up saying you have a daughter while you were on tour busy with other things. I’m sure you would have canceled everything and came to see her. I’m sure she wouldn’t be confused and instantly know even though you were never there.” She said sarcastically rolling her eyes. “Not to mention, how was I even suppose to know that you would want anything to do with her, huh?”

I stayed silent. I didn’t exactly know what to say. Maybe I didn’t need to be so angry with her…it’s not just her fault. I don’t know what I would have done. I mean, I have a job and I’m always busy and there really wouldn’t have been time to even see Lexi…

“That’s what I thought…” She said, walking past me to a cab.

“Wait, Julia!” I called out, but she had already gotten into the cab and the driver drove away. How did this all end up to be my fault? I’m not the one who kept a child away from their parent. Maybe she had a point, though?

Julia’s POV:
“That’s what I thought…” I trailed off, feeling the water forming in my eyes. I pushed past him, straight to a cab.

“Wait, Julia!” I heard Niall call out, but I didn’t bother to stop. When I gave the driver directions, we set off quickly. All I could think about was what Niall said. I know I couldn’t blame Niall for all this, but when he didn’t say anything about wanting anything to do with Lexi, my heart broke into a million pieces. This is why I couldn’t let him know. They’ve grown so close to each other and now he’s just going to leave her. What am I supposed to tell her anyways?

“Ma’am, we’re here.” The driver said. He snapped me out of my thoughts and I realized we were already back at the house. I sighed handing him some money and leaving the car. I got my key out of my purse and put it into the lock. When I opened the door, I saw Lexi and dad all cuddled up on the couch asleep. I couldn’t help but smile despite the anger and confusion I was also feeling. Lexi looked so cute when she was sleeping. She looked just like…Niall.

I decided not to wake them, and just draped a blanket over the two of them. I made my way to my bedroom and changed into some sweatpants and a tank top. The pitter-patter of rain fell against the window, as I snuggled into my blanket on the bed. I couldn’t stop thinking about Niall and the words we exchanged. I don’t know when I would see him again, and what I would do if we did see each other again. I just don’t want Lexi caught up in the middle of this.

Ding Dong!

I groaned sitting up from my bed. Who would be at my house this late at night? Probably Christa. After all, I did have the key and she was still with the boys. I made my way to the front door and opened it.

“Sorry I forgot to tell you I left. I just figured you—“ I cut myself off when I realized that it wasn’t Christa who was at the door. I locked eyes with the blue-eyed blonde-haired boy. “W-What are you doing here?” Was he crazy? It’s raining cats and dogs and here is standing outside, soaked.

“I’m sorry.” Was all he said. He stood there, with his hands in his pockets.

“Niall it’s past midnight and you’re here to say you’re sorry? Not to mention it’s pouring down!” I motioned to the rain. “Is that really all you came here for? Niall you’re soaked, why don’t you just come inside?” I asked, and I moved out of the way to let him step inside. He shivered as he did so, and I quickly went to grab him a towel. “Stay here.” I instructed him.

“Jules, you really don’t have to do this…” He said, as I wrapped the towel around him. I looked up at him and our eyes met once again. He leaned down and I could feel his breath hit my lips. I pulled away quickly and stepped back.

“Um…I’ll show you where the guest bedroom is…” I said, not looking up at him again. I lead him down the hall, carefully so I didn’t wake up Lexi or my father. I opened the door and showed him inside. “I’ll dry your clothes for the morning…” I said, playing with my fingers. I could hear the rustling of clothes, and soon enough, he handed me his shirt and his jeans. Leaving him in his…boxers. I turned on my heels and left the room, heading to the dryer.

Niall’s POV:
As she left the room, I shut the door behind her and sat on the bed sighing. We almost just kissed…what was I thinking? Bad move, Niall. Bad move. Without wasting another moment of thinking about my horrible actions, I lie on the bed and shut my eyes, drifting off to sleep.

I opened my eyes, sitting up and stretching. I looked around the un-familiar room. Where was I? I heard the voice of a child, and I instantly knew where I was. I was at Julia’s house, the same house as my daughter. I heard a knock coming from the door, and got up to answer it. I opened the door and was face to face with Julia. Her eyes wandered around my body, but not too long after, I cleared my throat. She blushed, and looked away from me.

“Here,” she said, giving me my clothes, “if you want, there’s breakfast in the kitchen…” She said quietly as she made her way from the door and went down the hall. I watched until she disappeared from my sight, and then shut the door getting changed into my clothes.

Julia’s POV:
I went back into the kitchen and saw Lexi swinging her feet in her chair, munching on some toast. I smiled at her, as I grabbed a bowl, some milk, and some cereal. I poured the cereal, then the milk, and grabbed a spoon. I made my way to the table, across from Lexi, and sat down.

“Niall!” I looked up at Lexi and saw her waving to Niall, who just entered the kitchen. “What are you doing here?” She asked, smiling at him.

“Hey, princess! I uh…um…” I watched as he struggled, trying to pick the right words.

“He was too tired to go back to his hotel, so he stayed here.” I smiled at Lexi, helping Niall out.

“So you had a sleepover?” Lexi asked, tilting her head to the side.

“Um….no not—“ I was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell. I sighed getting up, and answering it. As I opened the door, I was greeted by four boys and one girl.

“Well hello there.” Christa greeted, as she and the boys walked in.

“Good morning, love.” Liam smiled, giving me a small hug. I smiled back, hugging him too.

“Well, well, well, what do we have here?” Louis asked as he made his way to the kitchen. Oh crap. We all entered the kitchen as well, and Niall sighed.

“Mommy and Niall had a sleepover!” Lexi giggled pointing at us. I saw Niall laughing lightly as everybody else did.

“Oh, really? Were they really loud last night?” Zayn said, laughing. I punched him in the shoulder, making him wince in pain.

“Not around my three-year-old.” I glared at him. “Plus, it wasn’t like that. It was late, and he was soaking wet and—“

“I’m sure he was.” Christa smirked. I rolled my eyes at her and sat back in my spot. Everyone else made themselves at home, as usual, and just sat and talked with one another. I looked up as I took a bite of my cereal, and saw Lexi feeding Niall some of her toast. I smiled seeing how cute she was with him.

“Okay, Lex. We have to get going.” I said, standing up and taking her plate for her.

“But it’s Sunday, she doesn’t have school?” Harry said, confused.

“Gymastics!” Lexi clapped her hands.

Gymnastics.” I corrected her. She ran up to her room to go get ready.

“I can take her, if you want.” Niall said, and I shook my head.

“I don’t want to bother your schedule.” I replied.

“No, it’s fine, really. We’re off.” He smiled. I sighed, giving up, and agreed.

“Okay.” I finally said. He smiled and I gave him a slight smile in return.

“I’m ready!” Lexi yelled, coming to the kitchen where everyone else was, in her leotard.

“That’s a bit too exposing, don’t you think?” Niall said cautiously. I sighed and rolled my eyes.

“Niall, it’s a leotard. She’s supposed to wear it.” I said, raising my eyebrows. I actually thought it was kind of cute how he was protective of Lexi…

“Fine.” He sighed. “C’mon, let’s go!” Niall smiled, taking Lexi’s hand. She held onto him grabbed her little bag.

Niall’s POV:
As Lexi and I got settled into the car, it didn’t take long until we were on our way to her gym.

“Hey, so I never found out why you got in trouble a while back.” I said, trying to start some conversation with her. She just sat in the back, silently. “Mind telling me?” I asked. She sighed, looking out of the window.

“A girl in my class made fun of me.” She replied, still looking out of the window.

“And why was that?”

“Because I don’t have a daddy like everyone else.” I felt my heart drop to my stomach when she said that. If only she knew…
