Loved You First (Sequel to Simon's Daughter)

Chapter 10

Niall’s POV:
“Because I don’t have a daddy like everyone else.” I felt my heart drop to my stomach when she said that. If only she knew…

“Then what did you do?” I asked curiously as to how this story ended.

“I pushed her.” She said quietly. I could tell she didn’t want to talk about it any longer. I felt terrible for Lexi. She’s basically getting bullied in school and I feel like it’s my entire fault…I wonder if Jules knows about this?

“Well pushing, is never okay. Next time just tell your teacher okay?” I said, unsure of how to respond. Since I was the youngest kid, I didn’t really have the responsibility of taking care of someone younger than I was. If this all got out into the media, how was I even suppose to explain to everyone that I had a child who’s three but nobody knows about her?

“I’m sorry.” She said, and as I looked into the rearview mirror, I could see a few tears falling down her face.

“Lexi, please don’t cry. It’s over, okay? Everything is better now. Don’t worry.” I gave her a reassuring smile as she nodded her head.

Soon enough, we arrived at the gym and she quickly hopped out of the car. She took my hand as she lead me inside of the huge place. My eyes widened at the sight of all these people flipping and jumping and doing who knows what!

“Do you do all of that?” I asked a bit worried. I hope she’s safe while doing this stuff.

“Mhm,” she nodded her head and smiled up at me, “but I can’t do all of it yet. A lot of it is big kid stuff.” She said pointing at some older kids, flipping in mid-air.

“So does your mum stay here, or does she leave?” I asked unsure, because Jules never informed me.

“Mommy always has to go, so Uncle Matt or Auntie Christa comes to pick me up.” She explained to me. I nodded my head.

“Okay, well then I’ll pick you up, okay little munchkin?” I said, kneeling down, and hugging her. She happily hugged me back and I could feel her small arms wrap around my back. She let go and skipped over to some other girls who looked her age.

“Hey mate, what’s up? You look kind of upset?” Harry asked once I got back to Julia’s house. I ignored Harry and made my way straight to Julia.

“Hey, can I talk to you for a second?” I said kind of quietly, even though I was now the only one talking. She looked pretty concerned but nonetheless, followed me down the hallway.

“Niall…what’s the matter?” She asked, worry in her voice.

“Lex told me why she got in trouble the other day…” I trailed off, running my hand through my quiff.

“So she told you, but not me?” I could see the hurt in her eyes as she spoke.

“Well she didn’t want to really talk about it, but she managed to tell me.” I shrugged my shoulders.

“So…what happened?” Julia motioned me to go on.

“Apparently another girl in her class was making fun of her because she um…”I trailed off, feeling awful for what I was about to say. It basically is my fault.

“Because she what, Niall?”

“Because she doesn’t have a father. So she…pushed her. I guess they got into a little fight or something. Not too intense, though.” I sighed, shoving my hands in my pocket. I saw her look down, and cross her arms.

“Oh.” She said, still looking down.

“Oh? That’s all you have to say? Don’t you think it’s about time to tell her?” I scoffed. She shrugged her shoulders.

“Niall, please…” She said as I began to walk away, but I ignored her and made my way to the front door.

“Mate, where are you going?” I heard Liam say, but I cut him off, as I shut the door behind me.

Julia’s POV:
I sighed as I watched Niall storm off. I just mess everything up for everyone, now don’t I? I heard the door shut and figured he must have left. I just didn’t know what to do. I mean, Lexi is only three years old, how am I supposed to explain to her that Niall is her father? When Niall told me what Lexi did, I couldn’t even describe how I was feeling. Lexi was a sweet girl and she’s never hurt anyone before. I don’t know why she got so angry at what some girl said, because she’s never done any of that when she’s mad. Does she really want to know her dad? I mean technically she already does, but she just doesn’t know.

After I picked Lexi up from gymnastics, I held Lexi’s hand as we crossed the street to get into the car. She got into her car seat and strapped herself in. I sighed and turned to face her when I got into the driver’s side. “Lex?” I asked, worried.

“Yes, mommy?” She asked sweetly.

“There’s somewhere special we’re going to go.” I said as I smiled at her.

“Where is it mommy?” She asked tilting her head to the side.

“We’re going to go right now.” I said, starting up the car.

“Mommy I thought Niall was supposed to pick me up?” She asked from the back as I already made my way onto the road.

“Change of plans, babe.” I said, thinking about what was just about to happen next. The moment I never thought would happen.

Niall’s POV:
After I left Julia’s house, I went straight back to the hotel. I needed to clear my mind and napping is always my favorite way. As soon as I got in, I threw myself onto the bed and laid flat on my face. Right when I was about to get comfortable, I heard a knock coming from the door. I groaned as I got up to go answer it. When I opened it, I saw Lexi and Julia standing there, hand in hand.

“Mommy I thought we were going somewhere special?” Lexi turned to Julia with a confused face. I stepped aside so they can come in. I didn’t know why they were here, but I couldn’t take my anger out on my daughter. Lexi smiled, running over to hug my leg. I smiled at her action, and pat her on the head.

“This is the place.” Julia replied. Still confused, I decided to speak up.

“Um, what’s going on here?” I asked, still unaware of Julia’s intentions.

“Niall, can I talk to you in the room for a second?” She asked, looking back at me. I nodded my head as I knit my eyebrows together. Lexi went over to the couch and grabbed my phone to play something on it. I smiled at her as Jules and I went into the bedroom and shut the door behind us.

“So…why are you here?” I asked, mentioning the unannounced visit.

“I’m ready.” She said, taking a deep breath.

“Julia, don’t you think that we should do that when there isn’t a child around? Plus, we’re not even in a relationsh—“ She cut me off.

“Not sex, dumbass.” She rolled her eyes at me. “To tell Lexi you’re her father. You’re right, she deserves to know. She’s your child, too.” Realization crossed over my face when she finished. I could tell it was hard for her to say since I’ve missed three years of her life.

“Oh. Well um…okay. Let’s do this.” I took a deep breath in, and started opening the door, then I stopped.

“What is it?” She asked.

“No need for the rude comments next time.” I playfully winked at her and she scoffed, trying to hold back a smile, which she clearly couldn’t. We exited the room and saw Lexi focused on whatever she was playing. We both sat down on the couch across from Lexi, and she set the phone down next to her. Wow, it almost feels like we’re an actual family…except for the fact that Julia and I aren’t together.

“Baby, there’s something we would like to tell you.” Jules said, looking Lexi in the eyes.

“Am I in trouble?” She asked, lowering her head in response.

“Of course not, princess.” I said quickly, hoping that she would cheer up. She raised her head, and then tilted it to the side in confusion.

“Then what?” She replied. Julia looked over at me and we both took a deep breath.

“Help me out here.” I heard Julia mutter under her breath.

“U-Uh…” I tried to find the right words to say, “Well you know how a girl from your class was being mean because you didn’t have a daddy?” I started off.

“Mhm.” She nodded her head, as she swung her feet from the couch.

“Well you do have one.” Julia said for me. Her face lit up like a child on Christmas, and she suddenly became more interested.

“REALLY!? WHERE!?” She stood up looking around.

“Well you’ve already met him…” Julia said again, leaving Lexi in confusion.

“I have?” She asked. Julia nodded her head then looked at me.

“It’s me. I’m your dad.” I said, closing my eyes briefly scared at how she’d react. I opened them again to see Lexi’s face plastered with a huge smile. Just seeing her happy, made me happy and smile. She ran up to me with her arms wide open and I happily took her in my arms.

“Does this mean you get to live with us!?” She asked jumping up and down.

“N-No, baby. He won’t.” Julia said, patting her back. Leave it to Julia to be the first one to say anything…

“Why not? Aren’t daddies and mommies supposed to live together?” She asked, looking at both of us. I sighed seeing Julia out of the corner of my eye, frustration covering her face.

“Not all mommies and daddies live together. But that doesn’t mean we will love you any less.” I smiled, kissing the top of her head.

I wish we could live happily ever after…but that’s never the case.
