Chapter 12: Playing Hero (Zayn’s P.O.V.)
Today had turned out to be great. Tori and I had the song recorded in no time, then we moved onto a group song. We all decided to use Another World, because we already knew that it sounded good. Now we were on our way back to Tori’s house to drop her off. We had just left the van in its hiding spot before heading off. We had decided not to walk in formation, because it was getting old really fast.
“So do you guys want to stay for supper?” Tori asked as she led the way back to her house.
We all looked at each other before I shook my head sadly, “We would love to, but we can’t.”
“Oh okay,” she replied a little heartbroken. I felt bad for ruining the mood.
“But we could always hang out tomorrow right?” I asked as I slung an arm around Tori’s shoulders.
She turned and looked at me with a smile, “Really?”
I smiled and nodded, “Yeah.”
She smiled as she walked backwards, “You guys rock.”
“Why thank you,” Harry said as he gave a little bow.
“Don’t flatter yourself,” Niall said with a small chuckle. Harry stood back up with a hurt look on his face. He crossed his arms as we continued down the street.
Louis walked over and patted him on the back, “Don’t worry man, we all have those days.”
I looked forward again, seeing that Tori was still walking backwards with a smile on her face. I was happy that I had helped cheer her up.
“Yeah, you’ll be okay Harry,” she said.
I watched Harry nodded his head in response before I turned back to Tori. She was slowly began to turn back around to watch where she was walking. We continued on again, slowly getting closer to her house.
“So are you going to hang out with us tomorrow?” Liam asked.
Tori turned back around to answer him, “I think that I will.”
We all smiled at Tori and I watched as she smiled back. That was when I heard the squealing of tires. I turned to see a car speeding down the street. At first, I thought nothing of it because we were all on the sidewalk. Then I noticed that I was wrong, Tori was in the street.
I’m not sure what I was thinking. All I know is that I panicked and just moved. I lunged forward, hitting Tori and knocking the both of us out of the way. We went rolling across the street as the car flew by.
I laid there panting as I held Tori in my arms. We just stayed there for a moment until the others came running over.
“Is she alright?” Niall asked as they all looked down at us.
“I think so,” I breathed as I looked down at her. She slowly leaned her head up and looked at me, nodding her head.
“I’m okay.”
The guys helped the two of us to our feet. We didn’t move until they were all sure that the both of us weren’t hurt. Then we all walked to Tori’s and dropped her off.
“That was gutsy as hell,” Liam said as we walked back to the van.
“Yeah,” I said, “I know.”
“How the hell did you do that anyway?” Harry asked as he looked at me in wonder.
I shook my head, “I’m not sure. I just moved.”
“Well whatever the hell it was,” he started, “You saved Tori’s life.”
I nodded. That car would have hit her if I hadn’t knocked her out of the way.
“Seems you played hero today,” Niall said as he clapped me on my shoulder. I winced a little as I felt a pain go through my shoulder. I guess I had hit the ground harder than I had originally thought.
“Well, there’s our ride home,” Louis said as he moved to the driver’s door. I reached up and rubbed my shoulder as little as we all loaded into the van. I would be fine knowing that she was okay.
