Chapter 11: Harmony
Chapter 11: Harmony (Tori’s P.O.V.)
I could not make up my mind on what I was going to wear today. I felt as if it was the biggest dilemma of my life, even though I knew it wasn’t.
“Make up your mind already,” I ordered myself. I must have been staring into my closet for at least ten minutes. I finally decided on a bright yellow shirt that said smile to go along with my blue jeans. I didn’t want to go too overboard, but I didn’t want to look too simple either. I figured this was a happy middle that I could live with.
I was giving myself one more look over when I heard a knock on the front door as my phone went off. I smiled as I pulled it out and saw a message from Liam.
R u ready?
I quickly replied, Yeah, coming, before grabbing my purse and heading out of my room. I opened the front door and was greeted by five smiling faces. I smiled back.
“You ready for some fun?” Louis asked with a smile.
I nodded, “Yep.”
They all stepped back so I could step out of the door and waited as I locked it. I quickly noticed that there was no vehicle anywhere near my house, I guess we would be walking.
“I hope you’re up for a little walk,” Niall said as he moved to walk beside me.
I nodded again, “It’s fine.”
Zayn came over to walk on my other side, “We had to hide the van to lower the chance of the paparazzi find your house.”
I nodded. I could understand that, and I had no problem walking. I was glad that they were watching out for me. I want to be a famous singer, yes, but I am really not ready for the whole paparazzi deal.
“Coast is clear,” I looked up to see Louis checking around a corner.
I felt a hand go on my back as I was directed around the corner by Zayn. My eyes landed on the guys’ van. I could feel Niall move behind me as Harry took his place, they were trying to hide me. Liam pulled back the sliding door as we reached the van. Zayn gave me a light push to tell me to get in first. Then one-by-one each of the boys filed in after. Zayn and I were in the back, Harry and Niall in the middle, as Louis took the driver’s seat and Liam took shotgun. Then we were off toward the studio.
“So Tori, are there any songs that you wanted to do today?” Harry asked as he tried to turn to look at me.
I thought for a moment, “I haven’t really thought about it.”
“I have!” a chirper voice called from the driver’s seat. “I even picked out a song for try with you and Zayn.”
I was a little worried about that. There was no telling what song Louis had picked out. I looked at the other guys trying to get a hint, but I could tell that they didn’t know either.
“This ought to be fun,” I heard Zayn sigh from beside me. I looked over at him, seeing him leaning his head into his hand. I reached over and patted his back.
“Don’t worry,” I spoke to him softly, “It could be worse.”
I sighed again, but nodded his head. Then before I knew it, Louis was pulling the van into a parking lot. I looked up at the building, smiling. I had been trying to get into this recording studio for ages.
“Well, someone seems to be happy,” Niall said with a smirk.
“I have been trying to get in here for forever,” I smiled at the guys, “Thank you.”
“It’s no problem,” Liam said as he opened his door, “Let’s go guys.”
Harry sighed, “Back into formation.”
I smiled as we filed out in the opposite order of before, but this time Liam stood in front of me. I tried to see where Louis was, but I couldn’t see over the guys. That was definitely a disadvantage of being 5’4” and being surrounded by these giants.
After about a minute, we were inside and they broke formation. I was very glad that they had because I felt as if it was making me claustrophobic.
“Let’s have some fun,” Louis exclaimed as they walked into their room.
“We need to work first Lou,” Liam sighed.
Louis expression dropped, “Fine.”
And with that the boys began working. I just sat there and watched. I really couldn’t believe that I was here, watching the boys sing and work. It was surreal.
“That’s a wrap for the day,” Harry said as he checked their work.
A huge smile spread across Louis’s face, “Free time!”
“So what are we going to do first?” Niall asked, “A group or…”
He didn’t get a chance to finish before Louis cut him off, “Zayn and Tori should sing first. I want to hear how they sound with the song I picked out.”
“Well what song is that?” Zayn asked.
I nodded, “Yeah, I need to know that I know the song.”
“I’m pretty sure that you know it,” Louis pointed to me and then to Zayn, “And I know you do.”
I had a really funny feeling as Louis went over and whispered to Harry what the song was. A smile appeared on Harry’s face as he turned to play the song. I had a funny feeling about this song. I learned I was right when the music began.
“Louis, really?” I asked as I listened to the beat for my cue to come in.
Louis smiled, “Yes really. I want to hear it.”
I couldn’t say no as the rest of the boys nodded at Zayn and me, even Liam was nodding. I sighed before I started.
“That’s how much I love you,
That’s how much I need you,
And I can’t stand you,
Must everything you do make me wanna smile?
Can I not like you for a while?”
Then it was Zayn’s turn as we began to sing the part that originally belonged to Ne-Yo.
“But you won’t let me,
You upset me girl,
And then you kiss my lips,
All of a sudden I forget (that I was upset)
Can’t remember what you did.”
And I had to go back to being Rihanna again.
“But I hate it…
You know exactly what to do,
So that I can’t stay mad at you
For too long that’s wrong.”
I listened as Zayn sang his next part before we moved into the chorus. As Zayn and I sang back and forth, I began to hear what the others had been talking about. We did a good harmony, and had to attempt that Louis had picked out a good song choice to test it with. Then we were both singing together and it sounded amazing to me.
“One of these days maybe your magic won’t affect me,
And your kiss won’t make me weak,
But no one in this world knows me the way you know me,
So you’ll probably always have a spell on me…”
I watched as the others smiled at the two of us as we moved through the song. I looked over and saw that Zayn was smiling too. I gave him a smile as I finished the song.
“And I hate that I love you so…so…”
The room was filled with applauds as the music died down. Everyone in the room was smiling as Zayn and I each took a bow.
“That was great!” Louis said as he nearly started to jump up and down.
Liam patted him on the back, “Yeah, you did a good job picking a song out.”
“I know.”
I was a little ridiculous how excited Louis was over that song. It made me worry a little bit.
“I knew asking management last night was a good idea.”
I raised an eyebrow at Louis as Zayn asked, “What did you ask?”
Louis smiled, “I asked if we could feature a song with Tori-Ly.”
My eyes lit up, “What did they say?”
“They said,” he was still smiling, “If we could send in a song as an example they would consider it.”
I couldn’t believe it. I might get the chance to sing a song with One Direction. Now my day really was surreal.
I let out a squeal as I flung my arms around Louis, “Thank you!”
He hugged me back, “Your welcome.”
After a moment, I moved to hug the rest of the boys before moving back to my spot.
“What about me?”
I turned to see Zayn looking at me with his arms spread out. I realized that I hadn’t given him a hug, so stepped over and hugged him.
“Thank you,” he said as our hug broke.
“You’re welcome,” I replied as I stepped back and turned to the others. “So what now?”
“We record that song with you two,” Liam answered.
“Yeah,” Niall added, “We have to send it into management.”
And just like that, Zayn and I were moved to mikes and the recording began.
