Using public wifi is okay to vote with. We put a stricter anti-cheat on this poll so the system uses an advanced calculation based on geographic location, client information, and other elements to calculate whether it is likely that a response is a cheat and will notify us. You should be fine.

Sorry I got y'all paranoid but maybe this is what's happening if so many people are found to be "cheating". It could very well just be a wifi sharing thing. Just a thought to keep in mind.

My sister in law voted for me on her phone while at my house, on my Wi-Fi. Eep! I didn't even think about that!

I hope not either. But it is what it is I guess. I just think that it's awful to do something like that to someone who works hard. I'm feeling like @MelissaStylesInStyle cuz I had friends over mooching my wifi and stuff and I sent them the links to vote for me. I hope that doesn't count either. Good luck to you too! Aww I'm sure you'll be alright. I think it's more of worrying about fake accounts possibly being made and then being linked to the same IP address - I think you'll be okay my lovely, we know you're one of the genuine ones here! :) xx

I would be really upset if any of my stories or my friends stories was booted because of shadiness. I would like cry so many people deserve recognition for the awesomenessness that they possess. It's not the Pulitzer but still this might be so big for someone. I mean really act right.

I'm sorry to hear there is suspicions of cheating going on, I hope it doesn't affect all the Author's and readers who have fairly voted. Let's hope that it doesn't affect anyone's chance of winning because then all the hard work that's been put in to make this will be unfair on those who created it.



@MelissaStylesInStyle I wish I could help answer that but I'm not entirely sure. I thought the IP address comes from the WiFi but I could be wrong, I'm not great with technology. Try not to worry, I'm sure all will be okay :)

OK, I have a question because I don't want the stories I voted for to get eliminated because of an error. I used a public WiFi to vote on my phone and now I'm worried. What if someone else that used that WiFi also voted on their device? I mean I know what are the odds, right? I'm just worried about it now. Or does this only apply if you use the same device not the same WiFi?

I totally agree with @VanitySorrowHeart (I'm pumped that your stories got nominated btw). What's the point? It's just supposed to be a fun thing.
But I may or may not have threatened my readers to make sure that they're not doing it (at all or anymore). Lol.

What's the point of trying to cheat? It sort of makes the win pointless. I never understood things like that, the need to win something. I'm not competitive at all, so I just don't get it I suppose. If the story is good, the votes will speak for themselves at the end of it, why cheat to achieve a false win?

I've posted to readers here and a few other places that read my work and asked them to vote.

For me, just to be nominated was a shock in itself.
