New site?

Okay guys, it's Prinny1321 here and Ive been fairly upset about this site since it went down and I have been thinking about it more and more lately, and I want to know, if I could get another site like this up and running, would you guys want that? I have been looking into it and I could definitely do it and obviously it would be something that I would be interested in for my self as well so I would want to do it for myself as well... let me know if you can get on this, or if you cant, my wattpad is loisslaughter

Hey, this probably sounds weird, but I got here through trawling the Mibba help forums. I also write fanfiction - different band, but still part of a Mibba site like this one. I just wanted to say go for it! That's what we've done.

We found three options for creating a new site but none are free unfortunately :(

1. Initially we used Wordpress and used the writeshare plugin alongside the buddypress plugin. We paid for the server host (which is basically renting an internet space to place your site on) and domain name (that's the website address). Unfortunately, this setup was not the best for writing. It's not only hard to set up but it's difficult to get it all working the way you want it to, and it seems to come with endless problems and no support at all as the plugin authors have disappeared (kind of like the Mibba owner has!). I don't recommend it.

2. Myself and another member in the mean time tried to code our own website. Even though the other member had some experience in coding, we eventually found it too difficult and gave up. If you knew someone who could build it for you, great! But it's not easy to do yourself at all. You will still have to pay for the server and domain name, and you will be relying on the person who built it or someone who understands coding if it crashes for any reason.

3. We moved on to (and remain on) something we found called eFiction. It's a customisable template for a writing website. We have found this option easiest to use. Again you have to pay for the domain name and (I think) for the server too, but it's much simpler to set up and easy to customise. Our members have preferred it for writing and posting, and us admins find it easier to moderate. Unfortunately, the help forums are currently offline for it, but I believe FAQs/general help pages are still available.

We pay roughly US$10 for a year of our domain name and for the server we pay roughly US$6 a month, so be aware that you will likely be taking a small cost on to set up your own site.

Sorry if you've already looked into how to do this or already know, just thought I'd help out if I could! Good luck with your new site. I hope you can get it running :) Message me if you have any questions and I'll try to help.
