Your Only Hurting Yourself
I let out a huff of breath and slid the tape into the ancient VHS player. Pressing play lightly, I sat down on my bed and curled up under the quilt. The screen lit up with a picture, it began to move.
"Look at our beautiful princess, Stephanie," My Dad whispered in a barely audible voice.
"Wow, We make a pretty gorgeous baby, don't we?" My Mom laughed from behind the camera stroking the baby's face.
I felt myself choke up as the video stopped and turned to the next home video.
"Look Mommy, I'm just like you!" A smaller version of me stepped out from my Mother's old closet wearing woman's sized clothing.
"Oh my gosh!" My Dad played along "Where'd Trinity go and why are there TWO mommys?"
I giggled "Daddy! I'm right here!"
"Woah!" My dad joked.
The next video played, the camera was pointing at the floor as someone ran. The peeked around a doorway where my mother sat down next to me on the steps to the porch."Trinity, Hunny, Happy Birthday,"
"Thanks Mum, I love you." I squealed.
"Oh I love you more!" She pulled out something wrapped in tissue paper and handed it to me. "Open it!"
I eagerly ripped it out of her hands and unraveled it. Something was inside that you couldn't see from so far away, but I knew. I clutched the necklace around my neck and began to sob.
"I will always love you," Mum said.
"LIAR!" I screamed, throwing the controller at the t.v, tears rolling down my cheeks like rain.
"Trinity?!" Harry burst into my room glancing at the t.v and back at me, "Oh no, please not this tape again! Your only hurting yourself!"
"NO!" I yelled as her took the tape out and placed it back in the box. I fell backwards onto my pillows and screamed "SHE SAID SHE LOVED ME, she said Harry, she promised."
"Shhhh, Shhh, it's okay, Trin," Harry sat down beside me and cuddled. "Your my cousin and I will always love you, you don't need them."
"It's not the same Haz," I cried into his shoulder "Ever since that night so many years ago, nothing will ever be the same"
