The Only One for Me

Promises

Aly's POV

"Aly!" My mom called upstairs, "You need to go now if you want to catch them before they leave!"

I pulled on the last of my clothes ( http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=112478394 ) and grabbed my purse. On my way out the door I kissed my mom on the cheek and said, "I should be back in a couple hours." And with that, I hurried out, slamming the door and rushing to the car. My relationship had become much better since that day when we played Truth or Dare. I guess I realized that the more I came to care for Harry, the harder it would be when he left, and the more I would need them to keep me sane during the time when I couldn't see him again. After all, I was going to college and he, well, he was going to be traveling around the world for a little while.

I kept the tears from falling. I couldn't imagine having him gone. But I knew that he had to leave. The short pause in the boys' tour to take a short break from the constant work was over, and they had to fly to Miami immediately.

Soon I arrived at the hotel, where I would be saying goodbye to the boys. Where I would be saying goodbye to Harry.

I sat in my car for a moment, willing myself not to cry, hoping that I wouldn't spoil the last few minutes I would spend with Harry for three months.

Finally, I got out of the car and walked towards the hotel. 'Steady,' I thought to myself as I made my way to the desk and then upstairs. 'Don't cry. Crying will ruin this. You never cry, remember?' I knew it was pointless, but I tried anyway.

Soon I reached the door of Harry's room. Taking a deep breath, I knocked. No sooner than I had touched the door, it flung open. "Aly!" Harry exclaimed. I smiled weakly. "Come on in," He said. "We were just finishing packing." I walked in and sat down on the couch. Louis was there too, trying to stuff an enormous pile of clothes into a remarkably small suitcase.

"Need any help?" I asked.

Harry grinned. "Only if you want to attempt to stuff the entire contents of the Niall's kitchen in a carry-on bag. He refuses to eat airport food, so we are each taking a bit of his very large assortment."

I laughed, "No thanks, then. I'm not sure I have the strength required to achieve that particular task." He flexed his biceps in response. I laughed, but my heart was aching.

Harry must have noticed, because he asked, "What's wrong?"

I groaned, "I'm going to miss you soooooo much." I smiled pitifully. As a reply, he came and scooped me up off the couch and carried me over into his room. "Ooh, scandalous..." I smiled and wiggled my eyebrows.

He grinned and said, "Sorry, but that's not exactly what I was thinking." I pouted. He grinned, "But there was something else I had in mind." And he pulled out a little package. It was small and rectangular, and it was wrapped in green wrapping paper. "Open it." He said, grinning like a little boy on his birthday. I opened it, revealing an empty picture frame. I looked up at him, puzzled.

And then he pulled out a picture. When I looked closer at it, I saw that it was a picture of us from the night before. I was wearing a beautiful dress, and he was wearing a gorgeous suit. I smiled, and a tear slid from my eye.

"Babe, what's wrong?" He asked, wrapping his arms around me and pulling me down onto the bed with him. One more tear slid, and then another. Pretty soon, I was flat out bawling.

"I'm going to miss you so freaking much!" I sobbed into his shoulder while he rubbed my back and kissed my neck.

"I'm going to miss you too, Aly." He said soothingly.

We stayed like that for about ten minutes: me crying, and Harry soothing, until Paul came up to the hotel room and told us that the boys had to leave in five minutes.

I stood up first, kissing Harry on the nose. "I'm sorry you spent time like this with me when you should have been packing." I said, looking over at his half-packed suitcase.

"I'm not." He replied. "I'd do anything for you, sweetheart." I smiled, drying off my eyes with my sleeve.

We stuffed the remainder of his stuff into his suitcase and walked out the door. When we got downstairs in the lobby, where the boys were waiting for us, I felt the tears coming back.

I hugged each of the boys (Eleanor had already flown back to England) and said goodbye.

I turned to Harry last. "Harry-" I started, but he cut me off.

"Come with us." He said quickly. "I'll die without you Aly. I can't handle being alone after I've felt what it's like to have you."

I smiled sadly. "I can't Harry. I would give anything to be able to, but I have to go to college soon, and I don't want to be a distraction while you're working. We can skype every night, and call and text each other all the time, okay? It's going to be fine. We're going to make it fine." I twisted the ring on my finger, assuring myself that I was right. That this would be fine. That our love would be strong enough to make it fine. But, damn, I was so freaking scared.

I gave him a hug and a kiss, and started to walk away.

"Wait!" He called out, and I turned. He ran over. "You almost forgot these." And he handed me the picture and the frame.

"Oh thank god you remembered Harry, I don't think I could've survived without these."

"I also wanted to say that I love you, and that there won't be a single moment when I'm gone when I won't be thinking of you. I promise."

I smiled. "Ditto." I hugged him again, tighter this time, and said, "I will miss you so freaking much while you're gone." He smiled, and I walked over to my car, and he walked to his. We drove away at the same time, and then turned in opposite directions. He was heading towards the airport, and I was heading towards the spa to get a massage and a mani-pedi.

----------

I relaxed into the massage chair and looked at the pictures on my phone. A picture of Charlie, Sarah, Sara, and myself. A picture of dinner with the boys. A picture of Nick and me at the zoo. I scrolled through the endless album, until I came upon a picture that was taken the night before. The same picture that Harry had given to me. My eyes got wet thinking of our date the previous evening, and I couldn't help but relive it in my mind.

The Night Before...

I was in my room, looking through my closet to decide what to wear for my date with Harry. Suddenly, my phone buzzed from my bedside table. I picked it up to see a text from Harry:
My place tonight, wear something prom-worthy ;-)

Puzzled, I put my phone down and looked in my closet. I knew from the second I checked that there was only one dress I could wear.

It was gorgeous; green and blue shone from it, and it was easily the prettiest thing I had ever owned. ( http://www.polyvore.com/pretend_prom/set?id=106162758 ) at it made me feel sick to my stomach, but I pulled it out anyway. I searched for the matching shoes and jewelry, and set about styling my hair. By the time I was done getting ready, it was time to leave, so I ran downstairs and to the door, where Harry had just rung the doorbell. I walked out, grinning at the sight of Harry in a tuxedo. "Heyyyy," I said. "Sooo, what exactly are we doing tonight?"

He smiled, "Something you never got the chance to do." Suddenly, my parents came running to the door with a camera. I was even more puzzled than before. We posed for pictures on the front stoop, and when my parents were done, he brought me out front, where a stretch limo was waiting. We got in, and the limo drove off.

On the way to the hotel, we made small-talk and listened to music. When we got there, he got out and opened the door for me before I got the chance. We walked into the hotel and got in the elevator, where, instead of pressing the button for the floor of his apartment, he pressed the button for the roof. When we arrived at the top, I discovered that the roof was strung with lights, and there was one small table placed in the center.

I gasped, finally figuring out what this was. "It's a prom!" I exclaimed, completely stunned.

He smiled. "Charlie said you never got to go to yours. I rented out the roof and got this tux so it could be exactly like high school."

"Except my senior prom took place in a gym, and my jerk of a date wasn't nearly as amazing as you." I said, glowing.

He laughed. "I'm sorry I couldn't exactly replicate it."

I smiled, "Well that's okay, as long as you don't stand me up also."

"Never." He replied. "Now, how about some dinner?"
