Gemma stormed upstairs to Harrys room
“Where the hell is your Thorazine?!”
“I…We…we ran out.” Harry sat up on the bed
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I don’t know.” Gemma sighed at the sight of her brother like this. He had dry tear tacks on his cheeks that were constantly being covered by fresh tears.
“C’mere.” She sat down on his bed and pulled him in for a hug. “Did the voices tell you to hurt Louis?”
Harry nodded and sobbed into her shoulder “D-does he know how s-sorry I am?” Gemma kissed his head
“I think that’s something you’ll have to tell him yourself.”
“O-okay. Where’s dad?”
“I called mum to take him away for a bit. She’s perfectly fine with Louis staying here.”
“R-really? That’s good. I w-want him to stay.” Gemma smiled and played with his hair
“He’ll stay. Don’t worry. I’m actually going to go downstairs and talk to him okay?” Harry simply nodded “Get some rest, Haz.”
She quickly left and went downstairs “What was that about?” Louis asked
“Louis, harry didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“That’s a great excuse Gemma.” He sighed
“I’m serious! Look, Harry will hate me for telling you this but, he has schizophrenia.” Louis looked up at her with confusion. He had heard about schizophrenia. People who had it normally ended up as criminals or in mental hospitals.
“W-what? So, he’s like…crazy?”
“No. He’s not. He has the mildest form of schizophrenia. But, he didn’t have his medication for a long time, and I didn’t realize it.”
“So?”
“Listen, he hears voices. I know it sounds weird now but he only hears them when he doesn’t have his medication. And they tell him to do horrible things.” Gemma proceeded to tell him the rest of the story
“So, the only way to get rid of this disorder is to tell him positive words? And even that might not work?” Gemma nodded sadly and Louis started thinking over everything he had been told.
Maybe he wasn’t the broken one, maybe it was Harry, or maybe, it was both of them. Two broken pieces that fit together perfectly.
Louis had never believed in fate. But maybe now he did. How often was it that a teenage runaway landed in his neighbors’ pool and ended up falling in love with him?
Fate was playing a big part in this story.
*Eight o’clock, same day*
Gemma called Louis and Harry down for dinner and set the food on the dining table. They quickly rushed to take their usual spots, which happened tube right next to each other. Gemma laughed at how fast they were to get downstairs and handed them each their plate.
“Thank you for dinner.” Louis smiled up at her and Harry said his thank you also.
“No problem, boys. Dig in.” They didn’t have to be told twice as they dug into their delicious meal
“So, I hear that our church is having a fireworks thing on the fourth.”
“Isn’t that the fourth of July, like, in America?” Harry commented
“Oh…yeah. Do you think it has something to do with that?”
“Probably. But we live in England…”
“Well, its fireworks, who cares? Do you want to go or not?”
“I don’t know. It’s really lo-“
“YES!” Louis yelled, interrupting Harry “Pleeeaaaassseee? Whenever there was a firework show my parents wouldn’t take me. I’ve always wanted to see them!!” Harry nodded
“Only for you, Louis.”
“YAY!” Gemma and Harry laughed at him and continued eating dinner.
“Harry, I’ll be picking up the Thorazine tomorrow. I expect you to tell me when it runs out.”
“But it makes me feel funny, Gem. Like I’m high.”
“Well, that really sucks, but you have to take it so quit bitching about it.” Harry sighed and mumbled
“I just want to be normal.”
“Well you’re not!” Gemma said, frustrated.
“Actually, I believe he is quite normal. Everyone has a little crazy in them, and if everyone is normal, well, then Harry is normal too.” Harry smiled, enjoying Louis’ perspective of things.
“What’s ‘your crazy’, Lou?”
“I have OCD.” Louis chuckled
“Oh yeah!” Gemma commented “like, I noticed that whenever the pillows fall off of the couch you put them back up and you are constantly remaking Harry’s bed.” Louis nodded
“Exactly.”
“So, what’s ‘your crazy’, Gemma?”
“Hmmm…I guess I’m too controlling sometimes.”
“Sometimes?” Harry laughed
“Okay, okay, a lot of the time.”
“See what I mean? We’re all crazy. Louis watched as Harry laughed, feeling proud that he had made him see the positive side of things.
The poor boy was so broken.
So, how do you fix broken glass, without cutting yourself?
Louis thought for a minute:
If you really care, you let yourself get cut.
