(Kayla's POV)
I felt my cheeks turn as red as an apple as he spoke out the words so gently and softly. I could see the seriousness on his face.
"Louis, I can't be anything more than friends right now. I have so much going on and I'm not sure that having a relationship would be best for me right now." I said shyly as I looked downward in shame.
"Kayla?" Louis said as he pulled my face upward gently.
I looked into his caring eyes with ease and reasurment.
"I only want whats best for you" he continued. "and even if thats not me right now, I'm okay with that."
"We can still be best friends though, I promise. I said with a soft smile on my face.
"I'd like that" Louis said as he turned and pulled a phone out of his pocket. "You left this at my house"
"Oh, thanks!" I said as I quickly reached across the table and grabbed the phone.
As I set it on the table it buzzed wildly with calls from my father.
"Hello?" I answered calm and prepared.
"Where the hell have you been you slut! My dads rough, cracky voice shouted over the phone.
"I stayed at my friends house last night, we had a project to work on." I responded hesitantly.
"And you didn't tell me? You better fucking come home tonight bitch because you got a whole lot coming your way!" He threatned before he hung up the phone.
I felt tears build up in my eyes as I put down the phone slowly back onto the table.
"Kayla? Whats wrong?" Louis asked concerned.
"I'll be right back, I have to use the restroom." I stuttered as the tears boiled over, onto my cheeks.
I quickly stood up and rushed to the bathroom at the back of the diner. My stomach twisted and turned as I rushed into the blue stall and knelt over the toilet.
My head spun as I purged and gagged over the small porcelen toilet.
I slowly sank into fetal position as I let my head return to normal. The tears stopped flowing down my face as I stood up and walked toward the large mirrors.
(Louis's POV)
I waited for several minutes before our waitress brought our morning drinks.
"Where'd your friend go?" She said sweetly.
"She had to use the restroom, she'll be out in a minute." I said as I saw Kayla walk steadily out of the bathroom.
"Okay dear, I'll come back in a couple minutes to take your order." She said with a smile as she turned and walked toward the kitchen.
Kayla slowly sat back down carefully, holding her stomach. Her eyes were bloodshot red and her face was as pale as a ghost.
"What happened Kayla?" I asked with concern.
"I'm just not feeing too well lately." She said as she looked at the ground with dissapointment in her eyes.
"Listen Kayla, I know that we havent known eachother long at all but somthing isnt right. C'mon, lets get outta here and we can go somwhere and talk about it, okay?" I said sternly.
Kayla looked up with innocence in her eyes and nodded.
I quickly reached into my pocket, pulled out a twenty dollar bill and placed it gently on the table. Without hesitation, I grabbed Kayla's hand gently and pulled her out of the diner.
We both rushed into the truck and headed out.
"I'm going to take you to my house again, we can spend the day watching movies and talking." I said as I looked at her gently.
She looked at me with sorrow in her eyes as she curled up, hugged her knees and leaned against the door.
The new truck rumbled down the old back roads towards the small cabin.
"Come here" I said as she got out of the truck and walked toward the large front door.
I swung the large door open for her as she shuffled into the warmth of the house. I pulled her softly toward the couch and sat her down.
"Now Kayla, whats wrong" I said as I looked into her eyes.
Hesitantly, she began to pull off the sweatshirt and lay her arms in-front of her torso.
