Chapter 3: Drag Me Down

Harry
I sit at a table in the corner of Paramount Coffee Project, waiting for Kaylen to arrive. I feel an unfamiliar feeling in my stomach. "Are those..." I think to myself. "Butterflies?" I smile to myself. I've never really had butterflies over meeting a girl before. I guess that's how I know that Kaylen is very special. I hope she makes it here alright. I would feel terrible if she got into some kind of trouble coming to meet me.
Ting-a-ling... The bell on the door rings, and I snap my head up. There she is, beautiful as ever, standing in the doorway. She looks comfortable in her jeans and t-shirt. "Kaylen!" I say, standing up and waving at her. She looks over at me and waves back, smiling.
"Hi, Harry." She says in her sweet southern accent. "I hope you didn't have any trouble getting here?" I say. "No, Google Maps got me here, I just had a little trouble parking is all." She assures me. "Oh good." I say, taking my seat. "So, Kaylen, tell me, where are you from? I know it's south because of your cute little accent." I ask. I notice her cheeks turning a light pink color. "I'm from a little town in south Arkansas. And when I say little, I do mean little. We didn't even have a movie theater." She says with a laugh. I smile at her.
"So what did you do for fun?" I ask. She pushes a stray curl out of her face and behind her ear. "We played in the creek, walked around town. I stayed busy by swimming and playing in band with my school, so I didn't have a lot of extra time." She explains. "You were in band? What instrument do you play?" I ask. She has peaked my curiosity. "I play trombone. My band was more like an orchestra. We were also a marching band." She answers. "Trombone! Wow. That's a great instrument. I can only play kazoo." I say with a straight face. She bursts out laughing. Wow, she has a great laugh. Not at all fake. one hundred percent genuine.
"Have you ever been to the big city before?" I ask. "No, not really." She replies. I smirk to myself. Kaylen has no experience in the big city, and she's here all alone. I guess it will just have to be my job to show her all that the big city has to offer.

Kaylen
I'm having a really great time with Harry. We've been sitting here, chatting and sipping our drinks for about an hour now. The shop is about to close. "It's been really fun talking with you, Kaylen," he says as he stands up. I follow suit, standing and pushing my chair in. "But I'm not quite ready for this evening to end yet. Do you want to go for a walk in the park? It's not far from here, and it's quite beautiful at night." Harry suggests. "Yeah...that sounds great." I accept.
As we walk down the sidewalk to the park, Harry asks, "How did you know my name this morning?" I start to blush, thankful for the darkness. "When I was younger, I was a One
Direction super fan. You were always my favorite." I say sheepishly. Harry grins. "I'm glad I was your favorite. That means that I have more of a chance." He says. "A chance.... A chance for what?" I ask, confused. "A chance that you will go on a second date." He says, as though it's the most obvious thing in the world.
I have thousands of butterflies in my stomach. "This was a date??" I think to myself. "And he wants to go on another one?" Wow. I can't believe that he likes me. And of course I like him. I've liked him ever since I was twelve. "Depends," I say slyly. "Where would we go?" "I hadn't thought ahead that far yet." He admits. "You said you like animals. How bout we go to the zoo. Or maybe the aquarium." He suggests. I smile up at him. "That sounds perfect."
We get to the park. It really is beautiful. The path is lined with lights, and the pond has a fountain that changes color every few seconds. It's really quite breathtaking. "Wow, it really is beautiful." I say. "You like it?" Harry asks. "I've never seen anything quite like this. It's amazing." I reply.
As we are walking, Harry's hand brushes against mine. "Do you mind if I hold your hand?" He asks softly. I grab his hand. "Not at all." I say, giving his hand a squeeze. I wonder where all of this confidence is coming from. Normally I am shy around guys. But I guess Harry is different.
As we walk back to my car, Harry says, "I had a great time tonight, Kaylen." "So did I, Harry." I respond. "Can I call you tomorrow? I'll let you know the plans for our next date." Harry says, smiling. "Of course. You can call me anytime, as long as I'm not at work." I say. "Okay then." He says as we reach my car. "Goodnight, Kaylen." He says, pulling me into a hug. My face reaches his collarbone, and I can smell his spicy cologne. "Goodnight, Harry." I say into his chest, right before he releases me. "Drive safe." He says before walking away.
When I get back to my apartment, Mo greets me with a wagging tail. I take my time in the shower, singing while I wash my hair. I'm so happy after my date with Harry. Nobody could drag me down tonight. I change into my pajamas before grabbing my phone. I see a text from Harry.

From: Harry: I had a great time tonight, love
To: Harry: So did I

I go into my contacts and click on my mom's name. While I wait for her to pick up, I turn on the TV and look on Netflix for a show to watch before bed. "Hey honey," the voice in my phone says. "Hi Mom. You'll never guess what happened today."
