Deviprya

Chapter One

Amynta

Ever since I can remember I was always drawn to nature. I would go on long walks in the woods, and would find myself searching for something that I never seemed to find.

My dad was always a little skeptical of my walks in the wilderness. He was tunnel visioned on the idea that something would happen to me out in a place no one could hear me scream, but there isn't a place in the world that I felt safer.

I've never paid this any mind as my dad has always been paranoid of everything. He lives in a bubble of depression, my father constantly goes on about how desolate life is. My mother died while giving birth to me, and I've been told he wasn't always so depressed. My mother was the light in his eyes and with her gone he is nothing. Not even I was enough for him , but that's okay I love him anyways. Dad keeps himself locked away in the house, and I can't recall, not even once, seeing him leave the four walls.

Dad and I get by on the insurance money my mother left behind. I haven't heard much about mom, my father refuses to talk about her, and his family had not even met her. I've never been introduced any of my mother's family although I wish I had. Maybe that's what I'm searching for in the woods, my mom.

I had walked every inch of the woods surrounding my small town, and today I wanted to see something new. I drove two towns over and found a nice spot where it appeared to me as if the trees opened up, and exposed a nature made trail just for me.

It was mid September, so most of the plants were still green but hints of orange, brown, and red had started to litter the ground. it was quiet out here, the only sounds that could be heard were my boots crunching the fallen leaves, and soft sounds of nature. Crickets chirping, water flowing in a creek not too far for me, and crows screeching.

I kept a steady pace through the forest, passing by a small waterfall. I saw a few chipmunks frantically running around to prepare for winter. I pulled my jacket closer to me as a light breeze blew past me.

Then I heard something strange, something I had never heard before in the woods. It was so soft, yet it stood out to my ears, as red stands out in a world of grey. The sound of a Thump. Thump. Thump.

It made me stop in my tracks and listen. I never felt so close to what I was searching forever in my life, the sound was like listening to Beethoven live. A glorious symphony for my ears to experience alone. It was like time had stopped as my breath hitched in my throat.

As I started to move closer to the sound Thump. Thump. Thump. I could feel my heartbeat start to get louder and louder and louder. Until I was met with a beautiful chest silver in color, and while it looked old it was not rusted. Beautiful designs had been crafted into the metal chest. On it I could see carved pictures of tree, fawns, peaches, and more. I leaned down to touch it, and the world went black the minute the pads of my fingertips met with the chest.

I was gifted with wonderful dreams. I heard the laughter of a man. The sound of his voice was thick like honey, and deep. In my hands was the small chest still thumping away. The laughter continued as I tried to find the owner of the sound.

"Where are you?" I asked, letting out a small chuckle myself. I walked through clouds that seemed to turn pink as I walked closer. He hummed in response, bringing a smile to my lips.

"Come find me my love." I heard him say, his voice decorated in an English accent. Just as the fog had turned a deep red, and I knew he was just around the corner, I woke up.

My eyes opened, and were met with a full moon shining through the trees. My silver chest was tucked away tightly in my arms. I groaned slightly as a headache came on, likely from resting on the forest floor. I stood up, picking twigs out of my hair, and dusting off my jeans.

As I looked up I saw a boy standing across from me. His hair was dark like mine, but his eyes were a deep brown. The man's outfit was quite simple, all black with silver studs being prominent to the eye on his leather jacket. A soft smile played on his lips as he looked at me.

"See you around sis. I hope you found a good one." The boy gestured to the chest in my hand. I frowned at him, confused by his words. Feeling protective of the quiet thump, I held onto the chest tighter. Why did he called me sis, and what exactly was he going on about?

Just as I parted my lips to voice my questions, he disappeared into the night. I gasped lightly, as he seemed to have gone in the blink of an eye. Here one second, and gone the next.

I walked over to the spot he had been standing, to see if maybe my mind was playing tricks on me, and the man was just around the corner. Alas he was nowhere to be found. This boy was just... Gone.

Harry

Are you alright dere' mate? You seem to have fainted, ya had a pretty nasty fall." The sound of a rich Irish accent filled my ears. I opened my eyes, and saw Niall. The blond's forehead was creased with worry as he stared down at me. My head was pounding in my skull, and I massaged my temples.

I sat up quite confused myself until I felt something that wasn't quite my own feeling, contentment. I looked to my left and saw my mum giving me a soft smile.

"I think she... I think she found me mum. She found my heart. I can feel her, I can feel so many things. I feel so much love, and yet I've never even seen this girl with my own eyes." I let out, my voice barely above a whisper. Mum smiled at me, and placed a kiss on my cheek.

"That's normal honey, I felt the same way when your dad found my heart. It's only a matter of time, have patience darling. Your love will guide her here." Mum assured me, and I let out a giddy laugh. This was the moment every Deviprya waits for, for their entire life. Our entire existence depends on emotion, yet we never feel it to the fullest until our mate finds us.

I can still remember the stories my mum used to tell me as a child. That one day a beautiful girl would find the chest that holds my heart, and after she learned how to open the chest, my love for the girl would draw her to me. Mum would smile and tell me the moment I laid eyes on her my whole world would cease to exist, and everything I thought I knew would be obliterated. All my thoughts, feelings and ambitions would be entirely focused on her. I dreamed of this day for my whole life, for the protector of my heart the keeper of my soul.

"Well I say we ought to celebrate! How about a night on the town?" Louis suggested, a large grin decorating his face. I heard a few cheers from the kitchen agreeing with him, and I smiled. All the pieces were finally starting to fall into place.

We traveled for about half an hour into the city of Rochester. Rochester was a melting pot city, by Lake Ontario, and located in upstate New York. It had a city vibe to it, but wasn't too large. The minute we set foot here forty years ago, I knew the area was for us. Alas as time progressed, and the city dwindled in wealth, there seemed to be just as many negative emotions as there was positive.

I was born in Holmes Chapel England in 1904. Being the mystical creature that I am, I stopped aging at twenty four, as all Deviprya do. We only begin aging again after our mates die. I can still remember when my own father died, killed by a Daemonium Deviprya, and mum started to age again. It was terrifying for me at first to watch my mother get older, but I've grown to accept it.

Daemonium's feed off negative emotion, and choose to use their powers to make the world a darker place. Making humans feel all things desolate and somber. Mypack and I are Angelus Deviprya. We are the opposite Daemoniums, we create positive emotions, and choose to feed off those instead. If you haven't caught on yet, Deviprya's entire existence is based off one thing, emotions.

I looked over to a bus stop, and saw a couple waiting. They were feeling impatient, pissed off at the cold, and the bus that wouldn't arrive soon enough.

'I just wish I could make her happy.' I read the man's thoughts, and smiled to myself.

I can fix that, I thought. I looked to the girl and channeled happiness and love into her. I then watched as she reached over, and grabbed her lovers hand. He smiled to her and placed a soft kiss on her lips.

I began to feed on the wonderful feeling, and could feel my energy begin to replenish. I became so lost in my luxurious meal, I had nearly forgotten I was here with my pack.

"Uh Harry we've got a problem." Liam nudged me, interrupting my much needed dinner. I looked over to Liam and the others and saw what they were all looking at. Liam, Cheryl, Louis, Eleanor, and Niall's eyes were all trained on two Daemoniums.

They reeked of dread, and their black eyes were smiling wickedly at their victims. Being as I was pack leader, it was my job to handle matters such as these. While it was hard for them, everyone waited patiently for me to address the intruders.

I walked over to the Raven haired boy, and the blond girl. I let out a growl, catching their attention. Everyone in the pack followed my lead our green eyes glowing in the night.

"You have no right to feed in my territory Daemonium. Get lost, you're remarkably outnumbered." I snapped at him. It gave me a wicked smile, but did shield his mate behind him.

"We were just passing through stranger, we don't mean any harm." He explained, smirking at me lightly.

"Leave." I stated not wishing to partake in conversation with the creature. He put his hands up in the air, and backed away slowly. Then the two ran away at a speed on a Deviprya could.

"Harry you don't think there are more of them do you?" I heard Eleanor ask, her voice weary.

"Let us hope not." I responded. Because if there is, we shall have another war on our hands, and with my mate coming for me, I cannot have that right now.

With my words still lingering in the air, a scream broke through the chilly night. The same man who had been so in love before was now running for the bridge. His mind was cluttered with paranoia, and the feeling of fear coming off of him was suffocating. I used all off powers to try to calm the man, but it was no use. He ran directly off the bridge, and splattered across the thick ice below. I tried to calm his lover as well, whom was now crying hysterically.

"Why couldn't I soothe them?" I asked out loud, mainly to myself. I was the strongest Deviprya in my pack, and surely the strongest I had ever encountered.

"That Daemonium has out witted you." Liam replied in disbelief. I looked back to my pack, whom all looked not only shocked, but frightened.

"We need to get back to the house now." I stated, and within seconds I was gone.
