Pick Me Up

Chapter 10

They were arguing, again. It’s all that had been going on that day, just Niall and Zayn going on and on about random shit that didn’t make any sense and didn’t matter. But yet, they wouldn’t knock it off. Percy had first came in hoping to get some studying done. It was empty then, but every time she seemed to go into a room, Niall and Zayn would be there, like they were following her. It had been about two weeks since she had moved in, although it had felt like 2 years, and they were driving her insane. This time, they were going on about Victoria Secret models.

“Barbara Palvin, most gorgeous girl I’ve ever seen.” Said Niall, taking a shot with his pool cue, taking a long drink of his beer afterwards.

“No way man!” said Zayn, shrugging off Niall as he missed his ball going into a pocket. “No one can replace Miranda Kerr. Face of an angel and body of a demon. She could take me to church any day.”

“You’re bark raving mad.” Niall shook his head in disbelief. “Perce!” he shouted, bringing her out of her studying coma.

“Yeah?” Percy yelled back, trying not to pay too much attention to either of them.

“Who would you pick, Barbara Palvin or Miranda Kerr?” asked Zayn.

“I don’t care.” She replied, trying to make them stop talking.

“You have to pick!” begged Niall.

“Yeah.” Agreed Zayn, “You’re the tie breaker when it comes to us. That was one of the rules when you moved in… Or have you forgotten the roommate agreement you signed?”

That was it. She was done. She slammed her book and papers shut.

“I don’t care about super models, I don’t care about football, I don’t care about which beer is better.” She all but yelled as she got off the couch. “I don’t care about your stupid fucking video games! I don’t care! I DON’T CARE! Now fuck off!” grabbing her stuff, she pushed past the both of them out of the den in search of a better place to spend her time quietly. They both went following after her.

“Percy, what’s wrong?” asked Zayn, yelling at her while she raced up the stairs to her room.

“Nothing is fucking wrong! Why does everyone always think something is wrong?!” She paused at the top of the stairs and turned round to look at both of them at the foot, eyes wide and confused. “I just want to be left alone!” She stuck her nose up in the air and vanished in the hallway.

“What is up her arse?” asked Niall.

“No idea, she was fine 30 minutes ago when we were talking about the best cereals.” Answered Zayn, still a little lost.

“She sure knows how to flip the crazy switch on and off.”

“Don’t tell her that, I don’t want to get yelled at again.”

They both decided to give her, her space and were walking back into the den when Harry came through the front door.

“Who was that yelling?” asked Harry, knowing who it probably came from already.

“Percy.” Said Niall, “She just freaked out over nothing.”

“Nothing?” asked Harry, suspiciously, eye brow raised as he took a seat on the stool at the island.

“Well no, not nothing.” Said Zayn. “She was trying to study and we just kind of barged in here…”

“Mmhmmmm.” Hummed Harry.

“She can study in her room or the library, this is the den. It’s the common area.”

“That is how you’re going to get your head chopped off and served to the rest of us for dinner.”

“I should go talk to her.” Said Zayn, getting up but Harry stopped him.

“Maybe someone who she isn’t mad at should go up and speak to her.” Suggested Harry.

“Good luck.” The both said at the same time while Harry left the room and made his was up to her room. There was no Taylor Swift music coming from it, so that was at least one good sign. He knocked on the door in anticipation.

“I’m really not in the mood Zayn!” She shouted beyond the walls.

“It’s not Zayn, it’s Harry…”

“Oh.” He heard her walk lightly to the door. She only opened it part way for him. Her hair was down, she was in her sweatpants and a tank top, and he couldn’t help but notice that she was gorgeous. He’d always seen her done up for a night out or in work clothes. It was nice to see this side of her. “Hi.” She said, still not letting him in.

“Are you going to let me in?” He asked, trying to open the door more, but she held it closed.

“No.” She said, face serious. “Not today.”

“What?” He was a little shocked, “Why?”

“Because, Harry, I have to study. I have papers due and a test in a few days. I can’t concentrate with Dumb and Dumber downstairs and letting you in will only further my distractions.”

“Sooo…” He cooed while smiling at her, “I’m a distraction.”

“Stop.” She was clearly not amused by him, like she usually was. “I just can’t right now. So stop.” Harry became a bit insecure.

“Why are you acting like this?” His forehead furrowed.

“Acting like what?” She asked, rather annoyed.

“Like you don’t care. You’re being rather cold, don’t you think?” She shook her head at him, and looked down, trying not to scoff.

“Why can’t you see that this has nothing to do with you, or us, at all?” She had every urge to slam the door in his face. “I do have a life outside of the damn coffee shop and partying.”

“That’s all I am, your boss and your party buddy?”

“Were you listening to anything I just said? When did I say anything like that?” She ran her hands through her hair in frustration. “I have to go. I’ll text you later.” She tried to close the door, but he put his foot in the doorway so she couldn’t.

“You’re acting crazy.”

Wrong move. Her eyes got fierce; anger was coming out of every pore in her body.

“Don’t. Ever. Call. Me. Crazy.” She said through her teeth. She pushed Harry very hard so he stumbled back and slammed the door so hard.

“Shit.” He muttered to himself as he made he was back down the stairs and into the den. By the time he got there, Jo had shown up.

“Didn’t sound like that went well.” Said Niall, who was in the fridge and pulled out two beers, handing one to Harry. He opened it and drank nearly half of it in one gulp.

“Nope.”

“What happened now?” asked Jo, who was sitting on the couch and turned behind her so she could talk to them.

“She flipped out.” Said Niall.

“She may have been trying to study in here and we kind of crashed her party.” Said Zayn.

“I tried to talk to her, but she was acting crazy.” Said Harry, still discouraged from his conversation with her.

“Please don’t tell me you told her she was acting crazy Harry.” Begged Jo. Harry became quiet and just kept drinking. “Damn it.” She cursed. “You should know not to do that! Especially knowing her history!”

“What history?” asked Niall.

“Percy is bipolar.”

“Bipolar?”

“Yup. Found out when she was 16.” Jo began to explain. “They put her on medication but she didn’t like the way it made her feel, plus, all that holistic stuff her parents taught her still was stuck in her head. It took a long time for her to come to terms with it. She has episodes every once in a while, like a couple weeks ago.”

“She just shuts down sometimes.” Zayn pitched it. “It’s scary, you don’t know what to do or say. You kind of just have to wait until she snaps out of it. Talk to her, be there for her as much as you can.”

“She also, like on this occasion, she will get really upset for basically no reason. She’ll blame it on something else, but it’s just the chemicals in her brain. They don’t function like ours.”

“Holy shit.” Said Niall, “That’s intense. Why did she never tell me?”

“She doesn’t tell anyone to be honest.” Said Zayn, “They all find out the hard way. And today is a hard way.”

“And boy genius over here.” She pointed at Harry, who was now finishing his beer. “Goes and calls her crazy. You’d think after he saw her last time he would knew she was sensitive about that word.”

“I wasn’t thinking.” Said Harry.

“Exactly, you weren’t thinking. That word is probably the most hurtful thing to say to her. She isn’t crazy, she just needs a little more help than we do.”

“I should have known that.”

“She’ll get over it, right?” asked Niall.

“Maybe over the studying party, but Harry calling crazy, that might take while.” Said Zayn. “Just when you two were starting to get a long, it’s a shame.” Harry thought Zayn was hinting at something, but he was too distracted to notice.

It was pouring the next day, not lightly pouring or regular rain pouring, but flooding the basement pouring and they were all stuck inside together much to Percy’s dismay. The last place she wanted to be was locked in a house with Harry for the foreseeable future.

“Looks like it’s not letting up anytime soon.” Said Niall as he was peeking out the window just as loud cracking thunder rang through the large house, echoing in the halls making Niall jump. “Shit. I hate this kind of weather.”

“I quite like it.” Said Jo, who was lying across the couch, head in Kyle’s lap reading her organic chemistry book. “Cuddle weather.” She scrunched up her nose and smiled up at her boyfriend who did the same back. But instead of Percy and Harry sitting next to each other trying to keep their hands to themselves and pretending not to be infatuated with each other, she was sat on the edge of the couch, making sure there was no room for him, while he was at the bar on a stool, glaring at the TV, watching Zayn and Louis playing FIFA.

“When do you think we could actually leave?” asked Percy impatiently. Harry had been there since last night and she couldn’t even stand to look at him let alone be in the same room and now they were stuck.

“Yeah.” Agreed Harry, distain in his voice. “I’d like to get home before this gets any worse.” Percy wasn’t sure if he was talking about the storm or their relationship, either way, she couldn’t help but glare in his general direction. Their eyes met, he immediately turned away. Coward. He could start a fight but not finish it.

There was another loud thunderclap and a flash of light, then the room went dark, TV turned off, lights gone, phones stopped charging… power outage.

“Fucking Hell.” Said Zayn, throwing the video game controller onto the table in front of him. “Right as I was beating you.”

“You wish.” said Louis.

“I’ll go get the candles.” Said Zayn, getting up and turning on the light in his phone to see where he was going.

“Might as well go in search for some fire wood.” Said Louis, taking off after Zayn.

“It’s out in the shed.” Said Niall, directing Louis.

“Is there a back up generator?” asked Kyle as Jo sat up from his lap.

“Yeah, I’ll show you were it is.” Niall grabbed his phone and turning on the light as well. “We have to get the breaker too.”

“I’ll get all the ice cream and anything else that could possibly melt.” Said Jo, heading to the kitchen.

“I left my laptop in the car. Let’s see how long the battery will last.” Said Liam, getting up and heading out of the den, which was now empty except for Harry and Percy. How convenient.

She was standing her ground. There no way she was going to say the first word. No way in fucking hell. She didn’t want to concentrate on him so she took out her phone and pretended to be busy, but in reality she was just looking at a blank screen. Harry jumped off the barstool and headed over to where she was sitting, she still pretended not to notice anything. She was half expecting him to sit all the way on the other side, but instead, he sat down right next to her. He huffed once and then grabbed the phone out of her hand.

Again, she was silent, not even an annoyed noise came out of her mouth. She stared him down and made a grab for her phone, but Harry just held it away from her above his head, considering he was about a foot taller than she was, he had the advantage. After the fourth attempt of trying to get her phone back, she gave up and crossed her arms over her chest and turned her attention away from this stupid git, with his stupid long hair and his stupid tattoos.

“So, you don’t want this back?” he asked her, flipping the phone in his unusually large hands. His voice was almost playful, but he was careful in his tone. Percy didn’t respond. She sat in the dark, blankly looking at nothing. The only source of light was the phone in Harry’s hand, which illuminated his face, making him more handsome than usual, but she wasn’t about to give into him and his devilish good looks. “Fine, I’ll just keep it then.” He said while putting it into his pocket, making the room darker than before. A few more minutes of silence passed until another loud thunderclap and lightening hit, making Percy jump a few inches off the couch and closer to Harry, which was completely involuntary.

Harry chuckled, he knew she wasn’t scared of the storm, but it was amusing to see her caught off guard, which was very rare. He stared at her in the blackness. He swore he could make out her soft facial features, her long eye lashes, her lips pursed in annoyance, it just made him want to kiss her more. The longer they sat there and the more they both stewed in their anger, Percy more than Harry.

More lightning and thunder, this time there were four claps and 4 strikes, the storm was getting worse and closer. It had nearly been 20 minutes and no one had come back yet. 20 minutes of her pretending she wasn’t scared of the storm and wanted to grab a hold of Harry. She was so mad at him. She was lost in her own head, she barely even heard Harry speak.

“Come on Percy, talk to me, please?” He was cute when he begged for her attention.

“What do you want me to say Harry?” she asked, annoyed, but finally breaking down and shattering the silence.

“I just want you to listen to me, that’s all.” He took a hold of her hand and intertwined their fingers, gripping tightly. He pulled her hand to his lips and kissed it. “I’m sorry. I should have never called you crazy.” She raised her eyebrow at him. At least it was a start. “You aren’t crazy. It was insensitive for me to say that. I should have thought about my words before I spoke them.”

“You get why I was mad right?” she asked, it was like a test. “And only part of it was because you called me crazy…” Harry had a blank look on his face. It looked like she was going to spell it out for him. “Yes, I have this disease, and yes, it sometimes gets difficult to handle for everyone, especially myself. But, when I get in my moods, like the one yesterday, you just have to let me figure it out for myself sometimes. Let me have my space. I loved the fact that you were there for me when I was basically catatonic, those episodes, yes, I need someone.” She sighed, “Okay?”

“Okay.” He said, searching her face for some clue that things would be back to normal between them. She leaned over and kissed him. He was glad he had her back and then made a mental note to not ever get on her bad side again. He liked her good side way too much.

They stayed close for the rest of the night, even when everyone came back it, they stayed sitting next to each other, which prompted Zayn to say something while him and Percy got up to get more frozen food from the den fridge while everyone was busy playing monopoly by the fireplace.

“Harry apologized?” asked Zayn, taking out some fudge pops.

“Yeah.” Shrugged Percy, taking out the frozen pizzas, maybe they could cook them over the fire or something. “Just had to explain to him about needing space when I get like that.”

“He’s a good lad.” He gathered the alcohol that was left inside the freezer.

“Yeah, I suppose he is.” She was putting everything on a tray.

“You two seemed to be getting close lately.” Zayn was prying.

“He’s my boss and he is always around here, it’s kind of unavoidable really.”

“Alright.”

“I’m just glad he has stopped calling me princess.”

“Awww, you’ll always be a princess to me.” Joked Zayn, ruffling up her hair and kissing her on the cheek.

“Ewww…” She pivoted to get away from him, “Don’t even.” She said, walking back to the group, taking a seat next to Harry. Of course.

The storm lasted a few days and after being cooped up inside for so long, they planned a night out.

It was a typical night out with the gang, the only difference was that Harry and Percy had been secretly making out with each other prior to heading out. They got to the club, instantly began taking shots and drinking. Harry was sipping his whiskey, leaning back on the booth they were all crowded in. His eyes never left Percy. Even when she wasn’t paying attention to him, his attention was on her.

He couldn’t help how he was feeling at this moment. She looked hot. It was doing all types of things to him, mentally and physically. She was wearing a red leather dress with slinky straps. It hugged her chest and then let out at her waist, it was probably shorter than he liked others to be seeing her, but it just made his head swim. Her legs were long and bare, even her shoes turned him on, black stilettos.

She was beginning to get antsy, she had had a few drinks now, and her skin was blushing. She finally convinced Zayn to go out there with her. She held his hand all the way to the dance floor, it irked him, but he knew what he was about to witness. The song was Stuck On A Feeling by someone he never heard of, but she had been absently minded singing and humming if for the past few days. The bass hit, she wrapped her hands around Zayn’s neck and got extremely close to him. Zayn’s around went around her waist, hand on her lower back, his knees slightly bent, she began swinging her hips to the bass and he followed her lead. She was practically was grinding her pelvis into Zayn’s. But in Harry’s mind there was no one dancing with her, just her moving for him.

She looked up for a brief second and made eye contact with him, she smiled almost like she had a secret. She went back to dancing, but he knew what she was really doing. She was teasing him, and doing a hell of a job at it. He knew that he couldn’t go out there and have her the way he really wanted, so he sat back and watched still sipping his whiskey.

The song changed, Sugar by Maroon 5, how fitting, and now Jo went out to meet them. Now Percy was dancing with her while Zayn turned his attention to a different girl. This was supposed to be just innocent dancing with her best friend, but now he was fantasizing about having her in his bed, if she was moving like that with her best friend, imagine what she could be doing to him. Kyle now got up and headed to dance with his girlfriend. Percy was alone, still dancing, just by herself. She looked up again at him, he was now beginning to squirm suddenly realizing how uncomfortably tight his jeans were.

He was waiting for her to beckon him over, but she didn’t, she must have had some idea what she was doing to him.

“Well, if you aren’t going to go dance with her, I will.” Said a voice from behind him, it was Louis. It almost broke his concentration, he half wanted to get up and steal her away, but he let Louis. He wanted to see what would happen, and it was just like when she was dancing with Zayn, swinging her hips not really paying attention to her dance partner. Her hands were even in the air, hardly touching Louis at all. It made Harry feel like he had won something.

The song changed again, Partition by Beyonce, the strobe lights hit, and he knew this would be the final song before she gave in and made him take her home. She had pawned Louis off on another girl, how clever. Their eyes were now locked on each other, she still didn’t call for him to go out there. It was driving him mad. When the song was fast, so was she, when the song was slow, she slowed down. Damn. She knew exactly what she was fucking doing. It was like she was getting off on making him weaker. His finished his whiskey, shook the glass, taking one last sip before pursing his lips. The song finished, he got up, adjusting his pants and walked towards the exit. Percy stopped dancing and followed his lead. She made it outside and stood next to him in silence, he looked her up and down. It was taking every ounce of self-control in his entire body to not put his hands all over her.

Apparently, everyone else thought it was a good idea to leave too because they joined them a few moments later. They all squeezed into a cab, Percy was practically sitting on top of Harry. Their eyes darted from looking at each other to looking at their most desired parts of their bodies. She gave him a tiny knowing smirk. If only he could last the 15 minutes to the house.

They climbed out of the cab. Niall and Zayn took their girls upstairs. Jo and Kyle went straight for the den. Louis and Liam had taken a cab back to their place, leaving Percy and Harry alone at night for the first time in a while. They still hadn’t spoken a single word to each other, just exchanging knowing looks. Percy took off her shoes at the bottom on the stairs, took one step up, and turned to him putting out her hand to grab, which he did, happily. She led him upstairs to her room, closing the door quietly. She walked over to her laptop and turned on the radio, quiet enough not to disturb anyone’s sleeping, but loud enough so no one could hear anything. He didn’t recognize the song, but it was slow and sweet.

Percy stood by her window just looking at Harry. If he wanted it, he had to come and get it. He wasted no time walking to her, crashing his lips on to hers. She tasted like her vodka pineapples, sweet. His hands wrapped up in her hair, pulling her as close as possible. He thought about this moment so many times, so he took his time. He liked how she was kissing him back, slow, sensual, letting her tongue lightly go into his mouth. They continued to kiss while Harry moved his hands from her hair to her shoulders, taking down the straps of her dress, then reaching behind and pulling down on her zipper. The dress fell to the floor, he opened his eyes to take her in, black lace bra with matching panties. He had to catch his breath for a second.

She grabbed his hand again and brought him over to the bed. She laid down for him, scooting back so her whole body was supported. She let him climb on top of her, pinning her to the mattress. She reached for his already half unbuttoned shirt, letting them all go and pulling it off him. She let herself run her hands up his back, feeling his muscle tense up as she did so. Her touch was electric, he never wanted her to stop. She grabbed him around his shoulders and pulled him down to her, she wanted his lips on every part of her body, burning her skin.

He kissed her mouth, then moved to her cheek, behind her ear, her neck, her collarbone, her chest, he stopped when he got to her breast, he didn’t want to assume like he did last time, and she knew that, so she very willingly reached behind her and unhooked her bra for him. He sighed a breath of relief, softly reaching up and touching her; his lips found her nipple, sucking gently. It was the first time he heard her moan, and it was a sound he never wanted to forget. She arched her back and brought his face back to hers and he kissed her with everything he had. He hoped she felt it flowing through him the way he did. Before he knew it, she was reaching for his pants. She, surprising, unhooked his belt with ease, tossing it behind him. The button popped open, zipper down. He wasn’t ready when she slid her hand into his boxer briefs, reaching for his length. It made him involuntarily buck his hips towards her and gasp, she let out a giggle, but stroked him slowly and rubbed her thumb at the tip.

She lifted her hips to take off her underwear, but Harry wanted that privilege. He hooked his fingers in, pushing hers away, and gently slid them off. There was no stopping him like last time. He trailed them down her legs, taking in the moment, throwing them off once he reached her feet. They were so close now, and they both knew this was going to happen. All the build up and teasing for the past few weeks has led to this. Their lips never parted, locked onto each other.

She still had a hold of him when she slowly she parted her legs. And time seemed to stop for a moment when she guided him inside of her. They both let out a breath, and began moving their hips in a perfect rhythm. Harry’s head was spinning, swimming in her scent, in her touch, the way they met at each thrust. She continued to kiss him wherever her mouth could reach as he nuzzled his face into her neck, panting lowly.

She began to shake a little, and he knew she was close. He needed her to get there, he was so close to finishing. Her breathing became more labored, her grip got tighter on him, and he felt her walls clench around him. A simple and quiet “Harry” came out of her mouth when she finally let go. He kissed her one last time, and gave her one last thrust, and he was spent.

He just fell on top of her, still inside. He could feel himself going soft, but he wasn’t ready to give up feeling her like that. He pulled away from her lips and looked down at those blue eyes of hers, they were almost shining. She had a goofy grin on her face, it was contagious, he felt his face break out with the same goofy grin. They both laughed at the same time. He kissed her again, and again, and again. All over her lips, face, neck, shoulders, and anywhere that was in reach of his mouth.

“I take it you’re happy then?” She said, smiling and laughing. He looked her dead in the eyes.

“Very.” Was all he said, he took to laying next to her, wrapped his arms around her entire body, bringing her close into his chest.

“So, it worked then?” she asked, looking up at him.

“What worked?” He asked back. She just got that evil smirk on her face, shrugged her shoulders, and giggle again. Then lighting hit his brain. “You little minx! You had this planned out from the beginning of the night!”

“I literally have no idea what you’re talking about…” She tried to play it off.

“You did!” He looked down at her and tried to get a disappointed look on his face, but he was too happy to actually frown. “You succubus.”

“Yeah. Well…”

“All you women are evil, just plain evil. I am just an innocent bystander taken in your web of tricks” He pretended to get up out of bed to get away from her. She grabbed his arm and pulled him back, there was no way she was letting him leave her bed anytime soon.

“I didn’t hear any complaining coming from you.”

“Complaining, no. But lets hope those speakers of your blocked out most of the other sounds that were coming from in here.”

“Don’t worry about it, Zayn and Niall are too busy with their own one night stands.” She shied away, making another joke at Harry’s expense.

“That’s it.” He tried to pretend to leave again, putting his boxers back on. “I will not be just another notch in your bed post.”

“If you leave, how can we have great morning sex?” She asked, eyebrows raised. Harry stopped what he was doing and looked down at Percy. She looked gorgeous, her skin was glowing, her hair had fallen around her face making her look angelic, she even looked good with sheet wrapped around her naked body. He shrugged and jumped back in bed, making Percy squeal with laughter.

“Good point.” He said, kissing her. “But after that, I’m done with your little white lies.”

“Keep telling yourself that.” She joked, turning away from him, but he grabbed and pulled her chin so their faces met and lips touched. She pulled away for a second and opened the drawer next to her bed, pulling out a pack of cigarettes. She rarely smoked, mainly at parties or when it was just she and Zayn hanging out by themselves. But it had been a good couple months since she last had sex and having a smoke afterwards always let the good feelings a little longer.

Being a smoker, she did hate the smell, so she got up, finding Harry’s shirt on the floor, which was rather large for her, slipped it on and began to walk out to the balcony.

“Filthy habit.” Said Harry, as Percy stood in the doorway of the balcony, the moonlight making her look as if she was glowing. She breathed in the smoke, held it for a few seconds, and let it out. It was such a sweet relief. “Smoking…” She looked at her cigarette, maybe it was gross, but it felt good.

“Not saying you have to start.” She joked, taking another drag.

“How long have you been doing it?” he asked, sitting up in bed, still naked.

“On and off since 16…”

“They kill you, you know?” he laughed, “Slowly, but it happens.”

“Yeah, well so do a lot of things…”

“I’m just saying that I’d like to have you around for a while.”

“Oh really?” She put out the cigarette, closed the balcony door, and headed back to bed. She tried to kiss Harry, but he backed away. “You won’t kiss me?”

“You smell like an ashtray.” He scrunched up his nose at her.

“Fine.” She got up from bed one more time, headed to her bathroom and brushed her teeth. “Better?” She asked, climbing back into bed. He kissed her quickly to make his judgment call.

“Much.” He kissed her again, smiling.

“I’ll try to cut back.” She said, between breaths. “Try being the operative word.” It was a tiny battle, but he won. They didn’t even really sleep that night. Just stayed kissing until neither of them could keep their eyes open anymore.
