Only You

Chapter 26

Taylor hadn’t spoken to me in a week and she didn’t look like she had any intention of changing that any time soon. Jared had been so angry when I told him what had happened and had already made it clear that should me and Taylor ever patch things up, he would not be anything more than civil for my sake. I sighed thinking about it as I carried my lunch to the table where Louis and Harry were already sat.

“You wanker!” Harry said with a laugh as he punched Louis lightly on the shoulder. I smiled at them, I was lucky that throughout this mess with Taylor I had had them to lean on. Their brotherly love for one another and habit to act like small children often lightened my mood and made me feel better.

“Mate, you’re big enough, I need more pudding!” Louis retorted as he rubbed his arm with a smile. I rolled my eyes with a smile and put my tray on the table opposite Harry.

“S, tell Louis to give my pudding back!” Harry laughed as he tried to reach past Louis but he was too quick and had moved the desert from his reach.

“Oh, am I mummy now?” I said as I opened my sandwich and took a bite.

“Only if I can be dad…” Louis had started off cheekily but had trailed off and was now looking past my head at something behind me, “I think I’m dehydrated… I’m fucking hallucinating angels…” he breathed. Harry and I looked at one another and laughed as he continued to stare past me, he even ignored Harry when he took his pudding back. A second later the chair next to me moved and Eleanor sat down.

“Hey, I just wanted to quickly ask when you’re free this week to hang out and sort out the arrangements for these songs?” she said with a wide smile. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Harry reach out and close Louis mouth for him with a chuckle. Louis waved his hand away lazily, still not quite blinking and I realised it was Eleanor who he was staring at.

“Sure, can you do Friday after school?” I asked but before she had a chance to answer, Harry had piped up.

“Selena, I think you’re forgetting, you’re meant to be coming for dinner and drinks with us on Friday.” I looked round at Harry confused and realised instantly that he was simply playing wing man for his currently frozen best friend, “Unless…” he looked at Eleanor questioningly for her name.

“Oh sorry, Eleanor... Well everyone calls me El...” She laughed and then glanced at Louis who was still not blinking, “Is he ok?”

“Just ignore Louis, he’s having a mental breakdown, he’ll be much friendlier if you join us on Friday for dinner and drinks?” Harry continued, flashing her a smile that it was impossible to say no to. She looked at me and I nodded encouragingly at her.

“Sure, why not!” She said with a laugh as she stood up, picked up her empty tray and looked to me, “I’ll just meet you in the music department straight after school on Friday then?” I smiled and nodded at her and before walking away she turned to Louis who still hadn’t managed to speak and said with a cheeky smile, “See you Friday then, Louis.”

“Humuff…” Was all Louis managed to mutter in his vegetable like state. With a laugh and a small shake of her head she had left the table. Once she was far enough away Harry turned to Louis and punched him on the arm pulling him from his stupor.

“Are you taking the piss? We got you set for dinner with a girl who is blatantly into you, and the only thing you could possibly think of to say is ‘humuff’? What the hell were you even trying to say with that?” He laughed as Louis rubbed his arm and his face went red.

“Was the nice girl pretty, Lou?” I teased as he swore under his breath and went back to his dinner, I laughed and then turned to Harry, “I’m good to ask Jared to come on Friday, right?” Harry nodded while still laughing at Louis and we went back to eating lunch.

“… so basically this has all amounted to us going out for dinner so Louis can try to not be such a lemon with this girl, and I wanted to know if you fancied coming along?” I asked Jared on the phone after explaining what had happened with Louis earlier at lunch. Jared’s throaty chuckle came down the phone at the story.

“You know I’d love to, but Meg’s school play is Friday, both Jen and I have said we’ll go, but you should enjoy the night with your friends and then come over after?” he said hopefully.

“Sure, sounds fun!” I said, a bit disappointed but still excited to be able to go over to his afterwards. I sat down at my desk and looked at the pile of work that was calling my name with a sigh, “Anyway babe, I should get going, I have a ton of work to do, I’ll call you tomorrow?”

“Sure thing, gorgeous, I love you.” My breath caught every time he said it to end a phone call and it made my heart feel like it might flutter out of my chest.

“Love you too.” I said quietly and I felt like I could hear his smile through the phone.

We said our goodbyes and once he was gone I sat staring at my work for a few minutes trying to get over the smile that was etched onto my lips.
“I’m glad we got the songs sorted today!” Eleanor said as she applied some neutral eyeshadow to her lid

“Couldn’t have done it without your piano skills!” she waved her hand coolly to dismiss the compliment with a smile as she did the other eye. I turned back to my wardrobe trying to find something for me to wear.

“So…” she hesitated, “What’s Louis’ girlfriend like?”

“He doesn’t have one…” I said as I turned back to her with a grin. She nodded as though it was a totally normal question to have asked, “Do you think he’s cute?” I asked her still smiling. I saw her face flush before she could hide it.

“I guess so… do you think he’d be interested?” she asked and I couldn’t contain my laugh. She turned to me looking a bit worried at my reaction.

“El, you turned him into a vegetable… I think it’s safe to say he’s interested…” I said with a shake of my head as I turned back to my wardrobe, “Probably best not to tell him I said that though.” I added and she laughed too. I pulled an outfit out of the wardrobe and slipped into the bathroom to get changed, during which time I heard the doorbell go. Slipping my jumper over my head I exited my bathroom in time to see Louis and Harry walking into my bedroom.

“You girls ready?” Harry said with a smile in my direction. I looked at Eleanor and then back at him with a small nod.

“Let’s go!” I said with a smile.

Notes

A bit of a filler chapter but I wanted some nice things to happen for a bit after all the drama with Taylor, and I love my little Louis character and I think he deserves a nice little bit of happiness.

@Bunnyboo
Thank you so much for reading! Writing is my dream and I am obsessed with these characters and their stories so it's so important to me that it is told the right way... At the time when I started writing this it was a distraction because I was in a tough situation and I needed something to take my mind off of it. Now, I am in such a good place and I can see that this story hasn't been written the way that it should have been - the way I want it to be read and I don't want to spoil the ending on a sub-par version. Thank you for being so patient, I appreciate it so much and I hope that I do their story justice in my retelling.
