Chase Your Dreams

"AJ! AJ come on sweetie! Breakfast is ready!"
Today is the day. The day where I finally get to be free and live my dream. The day where I am a freshman all over again Starting all over again.
"This is it!" I said to myself with the biggest smile on my face. I jumped out of bed and went downstairs to the kitchen.
"Oh mom, please stop. Don't start crying. It's just breakfast!"
"I know honey, its just, this is your last breakfast at home...for a while."
"Until Thanksgiving mom.." Rolling my eyes I take my seat at the table.
"Should have thought about that before you pushed her to follow her singing dream, honey." My dad said in a joking way. My family has been supportive with my singing. Ever since I was three my mother put me in lessons. My parents worked so hard to make sure I would reach my dreams. They made sure to put majority of their paychecks aside so I was able to go to University of California, Los Angeles. I also made sure to put in a lot of hours at the restaurant to help them out.
"Okay, mom stop staring at me. Gosh you're taking this too serious. I'm only two hours away. Everything will be fine!"
"I know, I just worry about you. Especially after what happened at Johns-"
"MOM! Stop. I'm going to be fine, okay? Can we please not bring that up.."
I kissed my mom on the forehead and turned to go upstairs. I hate it when she brings my past up like that.

"Okay, you have everything? Maybe we should go over the checklist. Do you have food? Jim, maybe we should run to the store real quick."
"Jeez mom, I think she's got this. Listen, why don't you and dad stay in the car and I'll walk her to her dorm. I'll check it out for you guys."
"Well...alright. Make sure there is an emergency exit near her! Oh, and check to see if the bathroom is clean!" My brother, Mark, and I rolled our eyes and laughed as we started to walk towards the dorms.
"Room 246. Ready?"
"Ready!" I have never been so excited and nervous in my life. This dorm was perfect. Small, but enough for two people to fit comfortably. Two loft beds on either side of the room for our own space. Perfect.
"Hi! You must be Ariella! I'm Morgan, your roommate. Welcome!"
"Uh, hi yeah. I'm guessing this bed by the window is mine?"
"Yeah, I hope you don't mind I chose this one, I get up a lot during the night and thought it would be easier for the both of us if I slept closer to the door.."
"Well then, I guess that's my cue to go! Nice meeting you Morgan." As I walked my brother to the door, I realized this is finally it and I am on my own as soon as I shut that door.
"Ariella Maria Jones, is that a tear I see in your eye?"
"Shut up you dickhead! I'm tearing up cause I finally don't have to see your ugly ass anymore!"
"Ouch! ha ha. But seriously though, my baby sister better take care of herself. You know we will all worry about you. Especially after..."
"God, I know! Why does every one keep bringing it up? I'm going to be fine, okay? Morgan seems like a good person. I'm going to be okay. I promise! I will call you every night!"
"I love you, AJ"
"I love you, butt face" I hugged my brother as hard as possible. He is my best friend and not having him around it going to be hard. You would think with him being in the Marines it is easy to say goodbye, but it gets harder and harder every time. I shut the door behind him and wiped my tears away.
"Wow, you guys seem to be really close. I'm assuming you're the youngest?"
"Yeah, he has always been my protector and is always there for me when I need him."
"Aww, that's awesome! I'm the oldest of two girls, so I kind of know that feeling! But hey, let me help you get settled in and then we can put on our cutest outfit and go out to meet new people! The new student fair looks pretty fun!"
