The Enthralled Dream (re-writing)

01. Auditions

I smiled as I put the final touches on my hair. It was curled and pinned back with small braids giving it some texture. I then started on my makeup, which had to be perfect and the best I have ever done in my entire life.
I put primer on my eyes before doing anything and did my eye-shadow, which was a dark smokey eye with a long wing, before I did anything else. I followed with foundation, contour, and highlight before doing my eyebrows, because I almost always end up with foundation in them.
I finished all of that with perfection and filled in the kind of bald spots of my eyebrows, but didn’t have much considering I had thick and shaped eyebrows. I put on a nude matte lipstick and was finished.
I smiled at my reflection in the mirror.
Perfect.
Looking at my hands, I made sure my nails were still perfect as they took an hour to do.
I then carefully slipped my dress over my hips. I searched my suitcase for my black no-show socks and my black Lita’s. I slipped both of those on and then double checked everything.
You look underfed and undeveloped.
Ignoring my insecurities, I stepped out of my room as Mark stepped out of his.
“Isn’t that the dress your dad left you for when you tried out?”
“Um. Yeah. He bought it for this reason, might as well wear it, right?”
He nodded, understanding.
We then went to the elevator before catching an Uber to my- live- audition.
Time seemed to pass so slowly as each person was called to audition. Some would come out in tears, others would have a poker face while some were screaming.
“Number 610747.”
My thoughts were racing as Marcus and I followed the lady with the clipboard.
“Family?” she questioned, pointedly looking at Marcus.
“Just him,” I hurried.
She nodded and we followed her to the backstage area.
My nerves were starting to eat my alive at this point. The host and I talked for a little bit, but I can’t remember any of what was said.
A few minutes later, he directed me up the stairs to a man wearing all black and a headset with another clipboard. I was told to pause for a second until they were given okay.
I said a quick prayer before being told to walk on stage, so I did as I was told, hearing the catcalls and cheers.
Smiling, I stood on the giant X in the middle of the stage and looked at the judges.
“Hello, dear, what is your name?”
I was flabbergasted. Louis Tomlinson was a judge! The Louis Tomlinson.
“Elizabella Tucker.”
“Well, Elizabella, tell us about yourself.”
“I am currently unemployed and am from Galway, Ireland.”
“Why are you here, Elizabella?”
“Um. I love singing and it’s always been a dream of mine to do it professionally.”
“Alright and what song are you singing for us today?”
“I’m singing I Bet You Don’t Curse God by Christina Grimmie.”
“Alright, go ahead.”
I took a deep breath and nodded, cueing the music guy.
The music started and my heart felt heavy.
You got this, Liza!
“I bet you don’t curse God when the doctor calls with a stern voice and test results and he asks you to come in right away.
I bet you don’t curse God when you’re on a plane and the turbulence and pouring rain, and you hope that you’ll make it out okay.
Everybody cries.
We’ve all faked a smile.
When your backs against the wall and your hands are tied.
There’s pain.
Life hurts.
There’s a thousand things you think you don’t deserve.
All hope is lost when you spend it all and you just can’t beat the odds.
I bet you don’t curse God.
I bet you don’t curse God when your child is gone and they ain’t picking up the phone and it’s 2 AM on a Saturday in July.
I bet you don’t curse God at your bottom line, and your credit cards are all declined, and you don’t know where you’re gonna sleep tonight.”
I then skipped the next hook and chorus, wanting to show off my range.
“I bet you don’t curse God on your dying bed, about to take your one last breath and your holding on before you say ‘goodnight’.
There’s pain.
Life hurts.
There’s a thousand things you think you don’t think you deserve.
When all hope is lost.
When you spent it all and you just can’t beat the odds.
I bet you don’t curse God.
I bet you don’t curse God.
I bet you don’t curse God.”
I held it out on the first and second one, and then softened the last one. I looked up as the music faded out.
What I saw made me smile, as Louis quickly wiped a tear from his eye, the girls having tissues being handed to them, and every single one of them on their feet.
Once the judges and audience calmed down, the judges sat back down.
“Are you sure you were just auditioning up there? That was brilliant, Elizabella! A voice like yours will go on to do great things. You moved me, Elizabella.”
I wiped a tear away, refusing to let the world see me at such a vulnerable state.
“I agree with Louis. I’m in absolute tears and you could have the entire audience fooled that you are just now auditioning. You are absolutely stunning and your voice is beautiful. I hope I get to be your judge!” Cheryl said.
If I get through.
Mel basically said the same thing as Cheryl and Louis. Then, next was Simon as I straightened up and my nerves grew.
“You know, I think you could really be someone to watch out for. You were a bit pitchy at first, but I’m gonna say that is nerves. You have some real potential.”
I felt my mouth drop open and felt the urge to squeal, but I resisted.
“I’ll start this off with a hell yes!” Louis yelled into the mike, making the crowd and myself laugh.
“100% yes!” Cheryl said.
“A million times yes!” Mel said.
“You have four yeses!” Simon said, making me squeal.
“Thank you all so much!” I said before running off stage.
“You did it, Liz! You’re going to boot camp!”
“I know! I can’t believe it!”
“I can believe it! You were amazing out there.”
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“Being there for everything… and running away with me.”
