Tattered Secrets
01
Garish music pulsated loudly, I could feel it as it throbbed my entire body. My fingers clenched and unclenched the empty glass on the table as I restrained the constant tears prickling my eyes. A few minutes prior I felt like my feeble body would just give in and sob my whole throat out of my body. Yet again I swallowed back the weeps and looked up hazily towards the bartender as he approached my direction.
As I opened my mouth to speak he turned on his axis, doing a complete ninety degrees before attempting to flirt with a different girl. His attempts to me were weak since I felt like I could throw up after everything I had witnessed and all I had wanted was a shot of some hard alcohol to make me forget my troubles.
“Tough service huh?” someone asked, as he leaned over the bar giving me a glance.
Sighing, I turned to him, “listen I’m not in the mo-” but my breath caught in my throat as I took in his appearance. He was a gorgeous man, tall with dark coffee hair and a captivating green gaze that enticed me. His lips were in a boyish quirk and he was sporting the weirdest floral dress shirt I had ever laid my eyes upon with his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
My attempts at covering up the evident gawping I had just done were fruitless as he laughed at my open mouth expression. “Not to sound cliché but close your mouth you’ll catch flies,” he spoke with such a bemused expression. He had to lean in closer and shout his words to be heard over the pounding music.
He smelt so good, I felt it impossible to breathe without being drowned in his scent.
“Mind if I buy you a drink?” he queried, whispering the question softly in my ear. The ends of my hair shot up almost immediately and a shiver almost washed over my spine. My lips parted slightly as I nodded dumbfounded. "You mind?" he had asked with a saddened expression that tugged at my heartstrings.
"No! I mean no, I don't mind."
“What will the pretty little lady have?”
When his hand found the small of my back, I almost jumped out my seat so I coughed quietly to cover it up. “Whatever you’re having.”
As he ordered the drink he gave me a dazzling smile and my heart sped up. When we both had consumed the shots he ordered he asked me to dance and I couldn’t help but be giddy. He made me forget how I caught my boyfriend cheating on me. He made me feel good and I couldn’t help wipe the massive grin on my face the entire night, the only tears shed were ones of joy as I couldn’t stop laughing at his ridiculous dance moves and rubbish jokes about the songs being played.
I loved every minute of it.
