Cambridge (Part III)
Again
I spent the rest of the day after my run in with Rachel thinking through my choice of words. Really, I shouldn’t have been so harsh with her, I tended to get angry when confronted, despite the fact that I knew I was in the wrong.
I had tried calling Louis a few times, to see if he was okay and to straighten things out but he didn’t answer. Go figure. I was making a complete mess of everything. Not only had I made the situation with Rachel worse, I had managed to upset Louis in the process, when he was one of the few friends I still had left.
Later that evening, I decided I couldn’t deal with the suspense anymore and set off to high-tail my way to Louis’ apartment. Hopefully he wouldn’t be too angry with me. I had overstepped the line a little but nothing I said was untrue. Ashton had told me all about him and Rachel, I knew all about the situations that led to the breakdown of Rachel and Louis’ “thing”.
However, I knew how Louis felt about her. He had made it abundantly clear to me over summer, several times with his casual whining when we’d facetime. About how stupid he’d been, telling her how he felt like that when she wasn’t ready.
I didn’t agree though.
Of course, Rachel loved Ashton very much, and she wouldn’t have betrayed him the way he did her, but there was always a spark between her and Louis. It was something that was easy to see when they interacted. The way they talked to each other, the way they looked at each other, there was definitely something there. The chemistry was undeniable, and Rachel was kidding herself if she couldn’t at least admit she was still attracted to him.
It was irrelevant anyways, whether Rachel and Louis got together or not, or whether Rachel apologised for her part in their demise. It wasn’t my place to judge her, or them. I had ruined out friendship, and although I knew it would be hard to win Rachel back, I wasn’t willing to lose Louis too.
I knocked on the door loudly when I arrived, before I lost my nerve. I had been preparing an apology speech in my head when the door swung open, revealing a shirtless Harry. I couldn’t help but let my eyes wander – the man was attractive – before I looked up to meet his harsh glare.
“What are you doing here Delia?” he demanded, folding his arms over his chest.
“I actually came to see Louis. Is he here?” I asked, trying not to feel to uncomfortable under his glare.
“No, he’s not, he’s walking Rachel home. You should just call him,” he told me, already starting to close the door.
“Can I come in and wait for him? It’s kind of important,” I added quickly before the door could fully close.
“No,” his answer was short but firm.
“Harry come on! I know you’re super pissed at me, I get it, but you and I were good friends, can we talk?” I asked again.
“There’s nothing to talk about,” he said, although he did step back a bit to let me walk in.
“You can wait here, whatever, I’ll wait in my room,” he mumbled, immediately walking away from me.
“Harry, wait! I know you probably hate me right now but its not like I done it purposely to hurt Rachel, okay? And yeah it was shit but I wasn’t the one cheating on her, it was Ashton, and it was awful of me to sleep with her boyfriend, obviously but I figured her and Louis would just get back together and she wouldn’t even are all that much, I don’t know it was stupid of me I just.. I just fucked up, a lot,” I rambled out, barely pausing for breath.
He simply stared at me for a while before shrugging.
“Yes, you did,” he said slowly. Then he sighed. “What happened earlier? Rachel and Louis seemed to be arguing after her run in with you this morning?” he asked, his face betraying his curiosity.
I rolled my eyes.
“Oh please, Louis’ too enamoured with Rachel to stay mad at her for long,” I muttered out quickly, without thinking.
Harry raised his eyebrows instantly at my words.
“Enamoured with her? Louis still..” he trailed off, unsure of how to finish his sentence.
I bit my lip, unsure of what to say. Sure, Harry had known about Louis’ feelings before, but as far as Harry was aware, Louis was over it, over Rachel. Was it really my place to say anything?
“I don’t know, I mean would it really surprise you all that much if they got together? They’ve always kind of had a thing,” I tried not to give too much away about Louis’ true feelings, at least not more than I already had.
“I guess,” he replied.
“Would it bother you? If they got together?” I asked, curiosity getting the better of me. Harry didn’t seem to have a problem with Louis having feelings for Rachel, back when he found out originally, but at the time, the odds of anything happening between them were very slim, it wasn’t a possibility he really had to consider.
He seemed to think about it for a moment before opening his mouth to respond. However, before he got a chance to say anything, the door swung open, revealing Louis, sporting a busted lip, with Rachel right behind him, looking pretty upset.
Skylar offering to talk to Harry on Rachel’s behalf is adorable! It’ll give her the perfect excuse to get to spend time with Harry alone and she’s br helping out her friend! It’s a win win!
Rachel better not say yes to Ashton! Louis would be so heartbroken! Although maybe the jealousy would be enough to get him to do something about it and they’d finally get together! Can’t wait to see how it all plays out anyways!
