Delia’s P.O.V.

I took a deep breath as I dragged my bags towards my new dorm. This summer had been.. interesting, to say the least. Ashton and I had been casually seeing each other over the summer, and despite the fact that things were going quite well, he still seemed to have no intention of making any kind of commitment. He was still painfully hung up on Rachel.

He had spent the first half of the summer trying to contact her, to beg her for forgiveness, but Harry soon firmly let him know she had opted to spend the summer in Italy with relatives, and she had no desire to hear from him. I had decided not to try talk to her until we were back in University. Of course she had every right to be mad, but eventually she would forgive me, right? If she heard things from my point of view.

Although Louis had originally been furious with the whole Ashton situation, he had eventually forgiven me, and despite the fact that he spent his summer in the US, we spent a lot of time talking over Skype. He mainly whined about how he had chosen the worst possible timing to tell Rachel he was still into her. I didn’t agree with him on that one though. Telling her before she could find someone else to get over Ashton with was probably a good call.

Speaking of Rachel, I was determined to win her back, some way or other. In reality, she was one of the very few female friends I had, and although we were completely different, I had actually enjoyed spending time with her. It was nice to have someone to go to when I needed to talk, and she had been there for me in ways that guys just couldn’t, I was missing her.

She had every right to be mad, but really how long could she ice me out for? I had always thought that her heart was still with Louis anyways, so maybe the fact that her and Ashton had broken up would be a good thing. Perhaps she’d be much happier with Louis. I wasn’t looking forward to having to deal with Skylar and Harry though. They were both overly protective of Rachel and would surely band together to make sure I had to stay well away from her.

Either way, I would fix things between us. Or at least apologise properly and explain to her that Ashton wasn’t just a fling for me – although it seems I’m just a fling for him. She deserved at least that much, she deserved to really understand the situation.

Once settled into my new room, I headed over to Ashton’s. He had text me once he had settled in, saying that he wanted to talk. That was never a good sign.

“Delia,” he opened the door, smiling. However, the smile didn’t reach his eyes. He was nervous, that much was obvious.

“Ashton,” I greeted casually, as I walked inside. “What’s up?” I asked, rounding on him, once the door was shut.

He sighed softly, gesturing to the couch. “Could you sit down for a minute? We need to talk,” he explained, fidgeting a bit. I simply nodded in response, wanting to make this as easy as possible for him.

As I sat down on the couch, he perched himself on the arm of the armchair.

“Delia..” he began, biting his lip. “I’ve had a lot of fun this summer.. with you. We’ve had a lot of fun this summer,” he said the words slowly. I nodded in confusion at his statement. “We have,” I agreed cautiously.

“We really do get on well, and I really like you, I think you’re awesome Deals,” he continued. I brightened up immensely at this. “I think you’re awesome too Ashton,” I admitted.

He smiled briefly at that but then immediately dropped his gaze.

“You see, I like you Delia. But.. But I love Rachel. I’ve been in love with Rachel from the very beginning Deals, and I think you’re a really great person, but I have to try..” he trailed off, his voice getting softer.

“I have to try fix things with her,” he continued after a moment of silence. “I have to try and win her back Deals, you know I do. She means everything to me” he whispered.

“Everything?” my voice was steadier than I expected. “What bullshit Ashton! If she meant everything to you, you wouldn’t have cheated on her in the first place!”

“Delia – “

“And it wasn’t like it was a once off either Ashton, it wasn’t a one night stand, it was a full blown affair-“

“I’m not sure you say ‘affair’ unless we’re married.”
“And besides, you know as well as I do that there is no hope of her taking you back Ashton. Look at what happened with Louis. He slept with Eleanor once when they were in the middle of an argument and that was the end of that relationship. How would you possibly think she’s going to move on from your cheating?” I questioned harshly.

He didn’t seem surprised at my outburst, simply giving me an apologetic look.

“I have no idea, but I have to try,” he replied softly. “Which means that you and I will have to stop seeing each other,” he added, unnecessarily.

“Yeah, I got that, genius,” I muttered out sarcastically.

“You know, whatever Ashton, just don’t come crawling back to me when your precious Rachel makes it clear she wants nothing to do with you!” I stood up from the couch, and stormed to the door.

Ashton was being a complete idiot. There was a chance Rachel would forgive him for what he’d done, but she’d never actually get back together with him, would she?

Either way, this brief meeting made one thing crystal clear: summer is well and truly over.
