What is death really? What exactly delimits life from death? Is there an invisible barrier or a concrete reason to why we die?

Why does life leave a body when it is badly injured? Actually, there is no explanation, why, what is life really? What is being alive? And, this question brings us back to the first, which is exactly the meaning of being alive?

I'm sure the dictionary would say something like this:
Live: (adjective) to be alive or have life
Death: (female name) the end of life

Few but concise words.

Have life
End of life

Does anyone have the right to take it away from us? And if so, is death the end?
