Your Love

Café Rendezvous

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed."
― Carl Jung

A simple afternoon sitting in a café would turn out to be one of the most interesting and extraordinary days of my life. There I was, quietly sitting in the corner, pouring the sugar into my coffee when I saw a curious mop of brown curls in the corner of my eye. There was only one person who had hair like that, long and luscious over his shoulders. I heard him laugh and my stomach did a somersault. I really couldn't believe it.

Harry Styles was in the same café as me.

He wasn't alone. A young man who looked around the same age as him was standing next to him, getting ready to seated. They were definitely friends, I could tell by their body language. Harry's friend had a case with him and with a crane of my neck, I realised it was a guitar case. That intrigued me. I wonder if he's going to play it here. The café hosted little performances from the public every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Just my luck, today was a Saturday. Hopefully, he plays us something.

I returned my attention back to Harry who was now sitting in the opposite corner of the café, across from his friend. The light shone in through the large windows, bathing Harry's face in a soft golden glow, accentuating his trademark features. His shirt was unbuttoned quite a fair way down, his cross necklace dangling over his exposed chest. A smile played on his lips as his friend said something, inaudible to me. I raised my coffee cup to my lips and took a sip, keeping my eyes to Harry. His entire being made me drawn to him. I couldn't look away.

And that was a bad move.

Harry caught me staring at him, his eyes looking straight at me. I almost choked on the hot liquid of my coffee and quickly placed the cup back down, blushing furiously. Crap, crap, crap! Kal, why did you stare too long? I scolded myself. I pretended to be fascinated by the patterns in my coffee but I could feel his eyes on me. I didn't dare look up but something in my heart wanted me to. I flickered my gaze back to Harry to see that he was still looking at me, his dimple popping in his left cheek as he smirked. I gulped when he subtly winked at me. I fought the urge to gasp and looked away again. Why did he wink at me? He doesn't do that normally. At least I don't think he does... I wasn't a special person. Just a simple girl enjoying her coffee. So why was he staring so intently at me? Little did I know that I would get an answer to my question from the man himself later.

I carried on with my own silent business, drinking my coffee and scrolling through my Instagram feed on my phone. I had almost finished my coffee when one of the waitresses came over, holding a plate with a slice of cake on it.

"Miss, this is for you." She said. I looked up at her in surprise.

"Oh, I didn't order that."

"Compliments from a admirer, miss." The waitress smiled. An admirer? I was a little confused but being the polite person I was, I accepted the cake. It was a lemon slice, one of my favourites. That was just a pure coincidence. I picked up the fork on the plate and cut into the cake, crumbling, making my mouth water. It was delicious, just as I had expected. My mind wondered about the "admirer", who ordered the lemon cake for me. It had to be someone here in the café. Someone who had been watching me. I wonder if it's...

My thoughts were cut off when the strumming of a guitar echoed around the café. I looked in the direction of the sound and saw Harry's friend sitting on the small stage on a chair, his guitar spotless, his fingers plucking at the strings.

"My friend here convinced me to come and play so I hope you guys enjoy it." He said softly, speeding up the beat of the song. He pressed his lips to the microphone and began to sing.

He was a great singer however not one to rival Harry. I had never seen One Direction in concert before but I knew how much of a performer Harry was, how talented he was, how much he thrived doing concerts. I cursed myself every day for never getting tickets to their tours. I was worried that now because they were on their break, I may never get to experience the band live. I had faith though that the boys would return and maybe, I would be able to see them in concert. See Harry running about the stage, encouraging the crowd to scream louder, hear his infamous shitty jokes. I was so caught up in my daydream that I didn't realise that Harry was standing by my table.

"You seemed to like the lemon cake."

I jumped at his voice. My eyes went wide when I saw him standing tall, so close to me. His green eyes shone, sparkling in a perfect way. With the windows behind him, the sun turned his silhouette golden, his brown hair morphing into a lighter shade. He was even more handsome in person, his skin almost flawless in complexion. I couldn't find my own voice, I was in shock. He gestured to the empty plate with lemon crumbs all over it.

"You finished it. You're welcome." Harry smiled at me, sinking into the seat next to me. My gaze darted from him to the plate then back to him.

"You...you ordered the cake for me?" I gasped.

"It was the only way I could grab your attention without looking like a fool." He smiled again and my heart leapt at the sight of his shining white teeth. I moved a strand of my loose hair behind my ear, adjusting my glasses on my nose.

"Well, thank you for ordering it. Very kind of you, Harry." I said kindly. His facial expression changed when I said his name, raising his eyebrows. I giggled a little.

"Of course I know who you are. I'd be living under a rock if I didn't."

"You have me at a disadvantage then, love. You know my name but I don't know yours." Harry asked, resting his left forearm on the table. Various tattoos were branded on his skin: a mermaid, a ship, a rose, an anchor and many more. I had always been one to love tattoos, especially on men. And Harry pulled them off very well.

"Kal. Just Kal."

"Well then, Just Kal, it's a pleasure to meet you." Harry said, putting emphasis on the "just". I wondered if it was his way of flirting, very subtly at least.

"You too, Harry." I nodded with a smile. He looked over at his friend singing on the stage, playing his guitar beautifully. The song was gentle and soft, sounded very personal to the young man singing it.

"He's really good." I stated.

"Yeah. I had to drag Davey here to play. He tends to get a little nervous playing his songs to people he doesn't know." Harry laughed under his breath and I laughed too. On the outside, I was playing it cool but on the inside, I was screaming. I was freaking out that Harry Styles was talking to me. That didn't happen every day. It was a one in a million chance. Many girls would murder people to be in my position. For Harry's benefit, I acted calm. I don't think he would appreciate a screaming girl fainting on the café floor. The media would have a field day out of that.

"I'm glad you dragged him here." I said to Harry who flashed me another smile. Davey finished his song and the café erupted in applause. He looked very pleased with himself, waving at the people before stepping off the stage. I saw him gesture to Harry and I realised that my interaction with the attractive Brit was about to end. He turned to me with apologetic eyes.

"I'm afraid I have to go. It was great to talk to you, Kal. I'm sure we'll see each other around." He whispered and with that, he stood up and walked away slowly. I watched him give Davey a hug, taking the guitar case and leaving the café.

Our talk had been short but it had been the best three minutes of my life. My heart had been thrown about with so many emotions. I couldn't process the fact that Harry had come over and talked with me. He had been a sweetheart to order me the slice of lemon cake. A unique way to get a girl's attention. I smiled to myself. I had finished my food and my coffee and payed for all of it already so I decided that it was time for me to leave too.

I slung my handbag over my shoulder and gripped my phone in my hand. Just as I was about to walk away, my eyes latched onto something hidden underneath the empty plate. Curious, I lifted the plate and fished out a small piece of folded paper. I opened it up and saw scrawny handwriting.

Such a silent girl, so intriguing.
It'd be a pleasure to meet up somewhere and find out how intriguing you really are.

His phone number followed and I bit my lip to stop myself from grinning like a love-struck girl. I folded the piece of paper up and slipped it into my handbag, heading towards the exit. I walked out onto the street a changed woman. Every encounter changed your life but an encounter with Harry Styles, that was incredible. I was lucky, I knew that. I looked forward to seeing him again, whenever that may be.

Notes

Hope you liked it, my sweet Kal! You know how much I admire and love you and it was a pleasure to write for you. Please don't hesitate to request again, sis :)
