Lavender & Roses

VIII

The next day, I was back at Niall's. I was trying to wait as long as I could to call Sadie. I wanted to give her some time because she said relationships were hard for her. By chance, Louis and Liam were over already as well. We were spending more time together than apart since the break started. When I walked in, Niall stopped me.
"Hey, um, we're not going to hang out here today." Niall stated. I turned around and walked back out of the house, Niall, Liam and Louis right with me.
"Where are we going?" I inquired sadly. I thought Sadie was going to be with Niall.
"We're going to DeeDee's." Niall informed me, almost glaring at me. I nodded calmly, knowing that Niall was waiting for a smile or a sign that I hadn't kept my promise. "Do we all want to go in one car?" Niall asked Liam, Louis and I.
"I'll take my own car. I don't know how long I'll stay." I stated with a shrug, trying to make it seem like I might leave before them.
"Yeah, I'll go with Harry." Louis stated with a smirk. Niall and Liam shrugged then went to Niall's car.

"Harry." Louis smirked from the passenger seat of my car. I glanced at him for just a moment, seeing as I was driving. "Harry, this car smells like a woman's perfume." Louis stated. I nodded and licked my lips. The car smelled like Sadie. She had worn a vanilla and lavender perfume the night before. "Harry, whose perfume am I smelling?" Louis asked still smirking. I mumbled her name. "What? What was that? I couldn't hear you?" Louis teased.
"SADIE!" I shouted turning bright red.
"I thought Niall asked you not to pursue that." Louis seemed upset with me. I sighed heavily and kept my eyes on the road. "Are you willing to ruin your friendship over a couple of nights of blind passion?" Louis scolded me.
"It's not like that, Louis." I grumbled. "I really like her."
"Right." Louis sounded skeptical.
"We'll I haven't slept with her. The night I stayed at her flat, I slept on the sofa...alone. And last night, I didn't even kiss her when I brought her home, not really." I explained.
"So you took her out on a date?" Louis inquired.
I nodded, "Yeah. I mean, I think it was a date. I made it feel like a date. I don't know what she thought about it. I don't really want to push with her. I wanna take it slow. I want her to know that I mean it."
"Is there a reason that you're being different with her?" Louis sounded proud.
"She is Niall's best friend beside us. I like her a lot. And she...she just needs it to be this way." I replied. It wasn't my place to tell him her story.
Louis smiled, "You know, you could just tell Niall that you are different with her. I'm sure he'd understand."
I shook my head, "No. Even Sadie thinks it's a bad idea to tell him." I pulled into the parking garage behind Niall. "Don't say a word Louis. I'm not so worried about me but I don't want Sadie to have a rough time with Niall." I warned Louis.
He nodded, "Not a word. I swear it. But he's going to find out eventually."
I sighed heavily as I climbed out of the car, "I know, Louis."

Sadie opened her flat door with a smile. She greeted Niall with a big hug and a small kiss. She only said hello to Louis. She gave Liam a small pat on the back. When her eyes fell on me, her smile grew.
"Hi Harry." She nearly whispered.
"Hey." I chuckled before kissing her cheek lightly. She blushed as I walked passed her into the flat. I swore I could hear her bite her bottom lip too. I felt a sense of relief, at least she wanted me too. Then I noticed the way Louis was looking at me. He shook his head and went for the living room. "Sade." I murmured as she closed the door. She turned to me with a smile. "I had a lot of fun last night." I spoke quietly so Niall wouldn't hear.
Sadie nodded, "Yeah. Me too."
"Wanna do it again...soon?" I asked casually.
"Yeah." She blushed. God, she was beautiful when she blushed.
"Good. Tuesday? Eight?" I inquired.
She frowned, "I actually can't that night." I frowned as well. "I'm sorry. I have a...um...I have stuff for my..." She pointed to her head.
"I wish you wouldn't think of it like that. There's nothing wrong with it." I said quietly. Sadie brushed her fingers against my hand. "Here. How about I take you to lunch that day. One?" I suggested.
Sadie grinned, "One."
"What are you two goin' on about over here?" Niall asked folding his arms over his chest.
"Painting." I pointed to the large painting on the wall beside us. Niall lifted his eyebrow at us.
"Can we watch football?" Niall inquired of Sadie.
She nodded quickly, "Yeah, do you boys want snacks?"
"If you've got some." Niall answered with a shrug. Sadie muttered something about crisps and sweets. "I'll help you get them. Harry go sit with the boys." Niall instructed me. I did as told. I didn't want Niall to get weird with Sadie in the room.

"Ni, did you bring me your laundry?" Sadie asked all of a sudden. The rest of us were caught up in the football game blaring from her television.
"Yeah. It's in my car." Niall responded not taking his eyes off the game. Sadie nodded and stood but when she looked at the clock she groaned. "What's wrong, DeeDee?" Niall asked.
"Can you go get it? Declan just started his shift and I don't want to deal with him today. Plus, I don't want to change just so I can go down to your car." Sadie answered. Niall looked at her with pleading eyes. He wanted to keep watching the game.
"I'll help you if you want. I don't mind." I said calmly even though I was filled with fear. Declan knew that I stayed the night with Sadie; Declan knew that I took Sadie out last night. Declan could tell on Sadie to Niall. Sadie eyed me for a moment then nodded. She must've realized it as well.

Sadie and I stood in the lift quietly. She tapped her foot in a certain rhythm. I smirked and dropped my eyes to the floor. I watched her foot move slowly and in time.
"Why are you smiling?" Sadie inquired nervously.
"I think you're insanely adorable." I answered honestly. Sadie shook her head and returned to watching the lights on the lift. I discreetly watched her once again. Her long, lavender hair was straight today; she wore a bit of make up and she seemed like she'd gotten a lot of sleep. "Are you feeling better?" I asked her quietly. She lifted her eyebrow at me. "The day before yesterday, you were irritated and didn't look rested. Last night you seemed like yourself but today you're...I don't know. You just seem like you are more you today than the day before yesterday." I explained.
Sadie smiled, "Good food and conversation work wonders on a person's mood." I nodded slowly. "Harry?" She spoke my name quietly. I stared into her eyes, "I kind of don't like to be asked how I am doing constantly. It makes me edgy and annoyed. If I don't feel like myself, it's usually pretty obvious or I will tell you straight up." Sadie informed me as we stepped off the lift. I nodded and didn't say another word as we exited the building to retrieve Niall's laundry.

Sadie sat at the counter top folding Niall's laundry and half watching television. I glanced over to see Niall was completely involved in the show Louis and Liam had picked. I carefully got up from the sofa and made my way over to Sadie. I sat down beside her. I grinned at her when she looked at me.
"Would you like more help?" I inquired politely. Sadie looked at me nervously. "You can show me how to do it right." I stated with a genuine smile. From what I knew about OCD, I knew that she probably had a system for doing things like folding laundry. Sadie blushed and nodded. I picked up a shirt. "Okay. How do you do this?" I spoke quietly so I wouldn't draw Niall's attention.
"How would you do it?" She inquired of me curiously. I folded the shirt in half, the arms meeting, and pulling the seems together. I folded the arms over then folded it in half again. Sadie grunted then took the shirt from me. She shook it out then laid it front side down. She brought the arms in first, making them meet in the back's center. She brought the sides in again, meeting them in the center then folded it in half. The graphic on the shirt could be seen perfectly the way she folded it. It looked like it would if you were to go into a clothing store, only much neater.
"Wow. You do every shirt like that?" I asked in awe. Sadie nodded shyly. "It looks very nice. I'm impressed." Sadie handed me another of Niall's shirts as if to say "you try". I took it from her hand and laid it out exactly like she had. Sadie watched me closely as I copied what she had done. She smiled widely when mine looked exactly like hers. She pushed the basket over to me as if to invite me to help her finish the chore.
I had been folding with Sadie for a few minutes before I asked, "Sade, what would happen if we left it the way I do it?" She frowned deeply and shook her head. "I'm not going to. I just wanna know how you would react."
"I would panic. A lot of times I get mad or I scream and cry. Mostly, I get mad and start crying." She answered honestly.
"Why? What is going to happen to you if you don't do it this way?" I pointed to the shirts on the counter top. Sadie shrugged. "Like, do you think that something is going to go wrong in life, like because you didn't fold it this way, if the garden statue breaks it's because you didn't fold it right?"
Sadie nodded again, "Something like that. That's where the anxiety comes into it a lot. The last time I had an episode, I thought that if I didn't fold his clothes right the band was going to break up or he would lose his voice forever and things like that." Sadie nearly whispered to me with an apologetic tone. I nodded and went back to folding the way she liked it done. "It's really dumb and I wish I wasn't this way." Sadie whispered to me.
I frowned and gazed at her, "That's no way to think of it. I know you don't like thinking those things and it must be stressful but you can't always see it as a bad thing. I feel like it would just make it worse." Sadie shrugged and continued folding Niall's clothing. I sighed quietly. I didn't like that she saw things so negatively. I knew that I'd barely seen what her conditions entailed but she didn't need to hate herself. I touched her elbow gently. Sadie looked at me, then down at my hand for a moment then back into my eyes. "Do you not like being touched?" I chuckled taking my hand off her elbow. Sadie blushed and dropped her eyes away from mine. "Why not? Everyone needs to be touched? It's how we show affection and some times it is the best way to relay our feelings." It was amazing to me that she didn't like it.
"It makes me uncomfortable." She replied softly.
"Niall touches you." I stated quietly.
Sadie giggled, "I've known Niall since I was three. It's okay if he touches me."
I gripped her elbow again and whispered, "You let me touch you the other day. Last night too."
"I know." Sadie blushed. She didn't shy away from my touch; she actually leaned into it a bit.
"Why then? If it makes you uncomfortable?" I asked, genuinely wanting to know, but also I wanted to be slightly cheeky with her. I knew that Niall sitting just a few feet away and attempting to flirt with Sadie might not have been the best idea but she was smiling and I couldn't get enough of it.
"I like you. You don't make me anxious like that." She answered before chewing on her bottom lip. "It's not like Niall doing it but," She paused for a second. "I don't know how to explain it." Sadie sighed quietly.
"As long as I am...allowed to be close to you. I don't care about the reasons." I grinned at her. Sadie nodded again and dropped her eyes from mine. Slowly, I began caressing her skin. I dragged my fingers up and down the smooth, soft, warm skin of her forearm. I brushed my thumb against the back of her arm. I kept my touch gentle and loving. I didn't want to be too forward with her but at the same time I wanted her to know how I felt. I wanted her to know I found her fascinating and absolutely beautiful.
"Harry." Niall grunted from the sofa. I dropped my hand then turned my face to him. "Hands to yourself. You're making her uncomfortable." Niall stated with an authoritative tone. I glanced up at Sadie's gorgeous face. Her cheeks were bright red and her bottom lip was pulled between her teeth. She was far from uncomfortable. Sadie enjoyed me touching her. I could see it and I could feel it in the way her skin had begun to heat. She wanted me to touch her. But I didn't want to make things difficult for Sadie, so I listened to Niall. I wasn't going to touch her again. "Come over here and chose a movie with us." Niall instructed. I looked at Sadie, asking her if I could go. Sadie smiled and motioned for me to join the boys.
"I'm almost done. Go on." Sadie urged me.

Sadie returned to the living room from the bathroom. Niall had just turned on the movie we had chosen. Sadie looked around the living room nervously. Louis had occupied her big recliner while Niall and Liam were hogging her large sofa. The only spot open was next to me on the smaller sofa. She scooted across the room and sat down next to me. She stayed close to the arm rest with her legs crossed. I didn't like that she was tense in her own home.
"What are we watching?" Sadie inquired of Niall.
"Wrong Turn." He replied casually. Sadie whimpered softly. "Oh don't be a big baby. It's three in the afternoon." Niall laughed at her.
"Its December! It gets dark at four!" Sadie whined back at him.
Niall rolled his eyes, "Three against two. Wrong Turn wins."
"Who else voted no?" Sadie's curiosity was genuine. Niall pointed to me. Sadie blushed. She remembered asking me not to play scary ones later in the day. "Hand me my blanket." Sadie requested of Niall, pointing to the large grey throw behind him. Niall did as requested.

Sadie was hiding underneath her blanket. I was watching her out of the corner of my eye. She was hating the movie. She had her arms wrapped tightly around herself and was trying not to freak out. I reached out and tapped her shoulder gently. Sadie glanced at me. I motioned for her to crawl across the sofa and into my arms. She flicked her eyes to Niall. I motioned her over again. I didn't care what he thought. She was scared and wanted the comfort. She quickly moved across the sofa. She rested her head on my shoulder and brought her legs up onto the sofa. I put my arm around her and held her close. As another person in the movie got an appendage ripped off, Sadie buried her face in my neck. I shifted my hips a little to hide my slight arousal caused by feeling her breath on my neck. Her lips touched my skin lightly; even though it wasn't on purpose it sent a shock wave through me. I grabbed her blanket and pulled it over the both of us. I didn't want anyone seeing the beginning of the bulge in my jeans. I held Sadie tighter when she flinched at the sound of the main character screaming.
"It's okay, Sade. It's not real." I murmured in her ear. She wrapped her arm around my waist and held me as tight as I was holding her. "It's nearly over." I informed her after another moment. Sadie nodded and dropped her head down to my chest. At that moment, I could feel Niall's eyes burning holes into me, but I refused to look at him. I looked up to see Louis watching me with a smirk from the recliner. I gripped Sadie even tighter. I didn't like the way the boys were handling the relationship between Sadie and I. Within a few minutes, the tension in Sadie's body changed. I looked down to see that she had fallen asleep on my chest again. I chuckled quietly as to not wake her. I knew that it probably wasn't a good idea to let her sleep on me in Niall's presence but she had been looking like she needed more rest. I rested my head on the back of the sofa and just enjoyed the feeling of having her near.
When I finally looked over at Niall, he actually seemed relaxed. His eyes were on Sadie but he almost looked relieved.

"Maybe we should go." Louis suggested. Liam agreed with a nod.
Niall sighed, "Yeah. We should." He got up from the sofa and came over to Sadie and I. He removed the blanket from her body then gripped her arm gently. Niall attempted to pull her up from my chest. I assumed he was going to try to carry her to her room.
Sadie swatted at Niall, "No, NiNi." She pulled her arm from his grasp and snuggled back into my chest. She rested her hand on my skin and her breathing became shallow again. Niall tried again. "Nooo Niiii." Sadie whined, sounding as though she was going to start crying as well.
Niall turned to Liam and Louis, "Maybe we can't go. Sadie's taken Harry as a pillow hostage."
"No. If you guys wanna go, then go. I can stay until she wakes up or whatever. It'll be fine." I whispered. Niall looked at me menacingly. "You know me Niall, I'm not going to do anything to her. I'll just let her sleep right here." I was bit upset with Niall. "She'll be fine. I'll be fine. Just hand me the remote." I stated. Niall eyed me for a moment longer then turned away. He picked up the television remotes and handed them to me.
"If you need anything, call me. I can be here in no time." Niall informed me. I smiled, telling him I understood. "Tell her I'll call her tomorrow." Niall requested.
"I will." I assured him. Niall thanked me then led Louis and Liam toward the door. I looked up again to see Louis watching me. He smiled and gave me a thumbs up. I rolled my eyes before wrapping the blanket around Sadie tighter.
"Thank you, baby." Sadie hummed as she snuggled even closer into my side. I bit my lip hearing the words fall from her lips. Granted, they were sleepy words that she probably didn't realize she said but they still lit my heart.

I glanced at the clock. It was nearly seven in the evening. Sadie had been asleep for almost three hours. I was getting tired myself. I decided I was going to carry her to bed again then go back to my own house. I shifted Sadie carefully so I didn't wake her. I stood up then lifted her from the sofa. She stayed asleep for the most part. She had opened her eyes for a moment just to wrap her arms around my neck. I carried into her room gracefully. I laid Sadie in her bed after pulling the covers back for her. As I tried to pull away, Sadie grabbed my arm.
"Harry." She whispered without opening her eyes.
"Ssshhh, sleep baby." I murmured to her.
Her eyes opened slowly, "Stay with me?" I smiled a little. I loved how innocent she looked and sounded.
I nodded, "I'll sleep on the sofa again. I'll be in the living room."
"No." Sadie shook her head quickly. "Stay with me." She moved over in the bed to make room for me. I was surprised by her request. "Please? Niall's gym clothes are clean. They're on top of my dresser. Please just stay with me?" She requested again.
"Okay. Let me change." I replied. Sadie released my arm. I grabbed the clothes from her dresser then hustled into the bathroom to change.

I crawled into the bed beside Sadie. The second I was relaxed and comfortable, she was curled up in my side with her head on my chest. She whimpered a little when her cheek rested on my chest for the first time.
"What's wrong Sade?" I inquired, feeling a bit worried.
"You don't smell like you anymore and I can't feel your skin." She replied honestly. I moved her off my chest then sat up. I pulled the shirt over my head and threw it to the floor. I laid back down, pulling Sadie back on top of me. She smiled and sucked her bottom lip in. She hummed when she inhaled, taking in the smell of my cologne. Sadie stroked my chest gently with her thumb.
I kissed her forehead, "Go back to sleep." I then assured her, "I'll be right here when you wake up." Sadie sighed again and in seconds she was fast asleep.
