Chapter 16
~16~
“Dad, I want to go visit Mom.” I said to Dad later that night. I felt like I needed to get away from him, away from the intruders that wanted to potentially kill me, and I wanted to see my mom.
“What?” Dad asked, perplexed by the random request.
“I want to go to Canada to visit Mom.” I repeated.
He didn’t want me to go. But I was determined. I had to get out of my life and I couldn’t stay there a second longer. I did something I knew I shouldn’t have. I hacked into my dad’s online bank account, and I transferred money to the account I had access to. I then bought a red eye ticket and flew out that night.
But I left a note so he knew I wasn’t dead.
I expected my mom to be there at the airport to pick me up. It never even crossed my mind that she wouldn’t be there. Right as I arrived, she texted me.
Use my Uber account to get to my house. Here’s my login info:
I sighed, used her info to sign in, and called the Uber cab. It was a long and quiet ride to her house.
“HEY MOM!” I exclaimed excitedly as I walked in.
“My boy is home!” I heard my mom sputter. I could tell she was drunk. She came stumbling by the door with a bottle of vodka in her hands.
She went in to give me a hug but she fell and toppled over me, tackling both of us to the ground. “Oh, damn!” She sputtered to me.
I was hurt that she was drunk. “You couldn’t stop drinking for me?”
“Don’t…don’t sass me.” She sputtered.
“I’m jet legged.” I said. “I’m going to go sleep and try to get on Canada time.”
“You…you do that.” She sputtered again.
I sighed and let myself into the upstairs spare bedroom, not bothering to hope that my mother would take me out to dinner or anything.
