Chapter 14

Dad was really trying to keep my mind off of the break in/robbery. The police claimed that this was an isolated incident with robbers just looking for valuables to steal. I still couldn’t relax in my own home.

I was still really upset that I couldn’t do more editorial or serious modeling, but one day, Gabbi came over and we decided to do some serious modeling shots just for fun.

We took some artsy, black and white photos that were up close to our faces being distraught with tears falling down.

It was a hot day, so we decided to do some pool ones. We took our underwater camera and tried to do some underwater shots. We then did a really serious, high fashion shot where we were both standing in the pool, with our arms wrapped around each others arms, looking seriously at either each other or the camera.

These photos got intense. She bit my ear in one, I caressed her hip in the other. We even tried to make it seem like we were making out in one, even though we weren’t. Then we snapped the perfect shot.

It as a really sexy photo, not going go lie, and we looked like a couple.

After the photo-shoot, we started catching up over some Diet Dr. Pepper and cheese nips. I could really tell Gabbi anything. I told her about what really happened during the break in. I told her about what my dad’s ex-bandmates said. I also told her about how my dad doesn’t think asexual is a thing.

“If you want,” Gabbi started to offer. “We could pretend to date.”

“What?” I asked.

“We’re together all the time anyway. You’re like my best friend.” Gabbi said. “We could tell people, your father, the world, that we’re dating. That way everyone gets off your back.”

I was touched by the offer. “You would really do that?”

“Yeah! It'll be fun!"

With that, I posted the fierce picture of us in the pool on Instagram, captioned “girlfriend pool time.”

We fabricated a lie, and it was strangely exciting.
