Camping with the Guys
chapter 3
Niall's POV
"You're coming?" Liam asked. She nodded.
"Niall invited me," she said slowly. The guys all looked at me.
"And you're coming willingly?" Zayn asked. She nodded again.
"Niall didn't bribe you, did he? Threaten you?" Louis asked as he got closer to her face. She shook her head. I was about to tell him to back off when he sat back.
"Are you serious?" She nodded and gave Liam a look, like 'Why would I lie?'.
"The first girl ever is finally coming?" Zayn asked, kind of amazed. She smiled at him. I wish she would smile at me like that more often.
"Congrats," Louis yelled, clapping me on the back. Val and Devin looked at each other. While the boys were talking with me, Devin pulled Harry aside. I scooted a little closer so I could hear what they were saying while Liam, Zayn, and Louis texted their girlfriends.
"I heard there is a prize if you can get a girl to come," she said. Harry nodded. Crap. I should have told her. She might think that was the only reason I asked her.
"But Niall didn't ask you because of that...well at first probably but he really wants you to come," Harry stuttered out. She shook her head and giggled. I was happy Harry was standing up for me.
"I think you should ask Val to come. I mean wouldn't it be funny if the single guys get girls to come but the guys with girlfriends can't get them to come?" He nodded. I would be okay with sharing my prize if Harry got a girlfriend. I hope he doesn't just move on after the trip though.
"She'll say yes. Besides I've seen you looking at her," she added. He blushed a little. She pushed him toward Val and he almost ran into her. He glared back at Devin and she gave him a thumbs up. I couldn't hear their conversation because the other boys were on her so I came over too. They wanted to ask her some questions and I had some too.
"Can you fish?" Liam asked.
"Cook?" I asked. I was hungry again. She smiled when I mentioned that.
"Start a campfire?" Zayn asked.
"Walk?" Louis asked.
"Yes, yes, yes. And are you really asking me that?" She said pointing at each of us who asked each question.
"Well we have to hike like an hour into the woods and I am not carrying any of yours or Niall's stuff so that he can carry you," Louis said. I would carry her if she needed me to. All of a sudden the door opened. The technical people were done arguing and they wanted to talk to Val and Devin. They walked to the door.
"Hey look she can walk," Louis said. She stuck her tongue out at him.
"So Harry. What were you and Val talking about?" I asked him loudly. The other guys looked over at him.
"I asked her if she wanted to come camping," he said with a smile on his face. She said yes.
"What'd she say?" Zayn asked, even though it was obvious.
"Yes," Harry said excitedly. We all cheered and clapped him on the back.
"Wait," Harry said. We all looked at him like 'What the heck?'.
"How do we share the prize?" We all thought for a minute.
"Well we bring three tents so how about we put two tents in the best spot?" Zayn suggested. We all nodded.
"And just so you know," Louis started walking around us. "The girls get the nicest tent and you two get the second nicest. No sharing tents with the opposite sex," he said. We all laughed. It's not like he and Eleanor haven't slept together before. It's not like that between me and Devin though, so he has nothing to worry about. I'm not sad. I don't know how it is with Harry and Val but I don't think we should room them together just in case.
Devin's POV
The technical people wanted to know which track Val and I liked better. They didn't sound much different but they told us all this stuff that was different. We both thought the second one sounded better because it sounded more like them. We sat on the couch in the back while they talked a little more. Finally they told the boys to sing again. I walked closer to see what they were doing. They saw me and handed me some headphones to hear it. I saw him turn something up that made their voices go a little lower but I didn't think it sounded good. I made a mental note of that.
I noticed that while they were singing Niall was looking at me. I smiled at him a few times. I saw Liam nudge him once and Niall blushed. Zayn nudged him a different time and he blushed again.
I told the person how I thought it was when they asked. I told then that they shouldn't lower their voices at that part or raise them at another part. They thanked us and then we all could leave for the day. It was now five o'clock. Val and I left after we said goodbye.
Niall gave me his number so that he could text me the details. I was secretly thrilled. When we got home we ran inside and both squealed. We were going camping.
"We need to pack," Val said. Niall texted me a list of things we might do. He also told us to pack light since we would have to carry everything out there with us. I decided I would try to fit everything in my backpack and one other medium sized bag. Niall also told me that each of the boys are in charge of something.
He is in charge of food so I'm going to help him. I look in our fridge and pantry for food I could bring. I find some healthy fruits and vegetables to set aside for packing later. I also got some chips and hot dogs and marshmallows and chocolate and gram crackers and lots of other foods. I was so excited for this. Niall and I texted about what we were going to pack.
We were going to be there for seven days. Each day we would do different things. Day 1: hike there, set up, campfire, star gazing. Day 2: exploring, campfire. Day 3: fishing from 5a.m. - 9p.m., campfire. Day 4: boating and swimming, campfire. Day 5: lazy day, play football, read, campfire. Day 6: each person decides what they want to do for 3 hours, stay up for almost 24 hours. Day 7: sleep in, pack up, hike back. That was just an idea of what we would be doing. I couldn't wait. We would leave in five days.
"Devin," Val yelled from her room. I walked into it. It was a mess. Clothes were everywhere.
"I don't know what to pack," she whined. I sat on her bed and started telling her what to pack. After ten minutes I decided it would be easier if I wrote the stuff down. I got a notebook and wrote down what Niall told me. Then I suggested what to wear for each day. Like shorts and a t-shirt for the fishing day.
"Well I have to find the perfect outfits now," she squealed. She rushed over to her closet. She pulled out tons more clothes. I sighed. This was going to be a long couple of days. Just then my phone rang. It was my boss. I answered it and walked downstairs, away from Val and her fusing about outfits.
"Hello?"
"Devin," my boss said kindly. "I know that you girls have a lot of packing to do so until you leave you only have three hours a day. Sound good?"
"Yes thank you," I said.
"No problem but be careful out there in the woods. You never know what is out there and it may be closer than you think." That just confused me a lot. "Also a few more things. One, no sleeping in a tent with the opposite sex," he said. I blushed, even though he couldn't see me. "Two, if any of the boys try to make you do something you don't want to, don't be afraid to call me. I'll set them straight."
"Okay thank you," I said.
"Make sure you tell Val and congratulate her on going. One last thing," he added.
"Yeah?"
"Hearts are fragile things," he said softly before he hung up. What? Was he trying to warn me about something? Was he telling me not to break Niall's heart? But he doesn't even like me. Maybe he knows I like Niall and he doesn't want me to be heartbroken. Most likely it was just a piece of advice he found on the Internet.
The week passed quickly. Val and I packed. Val still packed like five bags but in her defense one was for all of us. I packed my backpack and another bag with food and my other stuff. We were all packed and we fell asleep early. I didn't think I would be able to sleep because I was so excited but I managed to have a good long sleep.

"Wait," Harry said. We all looked at him like 'What the heck?'.

Devin's POV
