The Spring Semester [On Hold Indefinitely]

Day 2

Mexico City Day 2

Today Harry said we'd be going to the Chapultepec Castle that's located in the middle of Chapultepec park. I was rather excited to go because I've been fascinated by castles ever since I was little girl. This castle was especially dear to me because it was the castle used as the Capulet mansion in Romeo + Juliet, one of my favorite movies. I rushed to the dining area where Harry was already drinking his tea. This boy is too much of an early riser. I take my seat next to him, with Paul accross from us showing Harry some drawing he's working on. This morning I only had some fruit as I was not all that hungry and instead anxious to get going into the city.

The second time around, the rocky road to the main street wasn't as terrible. It helped that I wore tennis shoes instead of the flats I had worn the day before. Never again. We took the same bus into the city which dropped us off in the middle of the same market from yesterday. This little routine is one I could get used to, despite my fear of the long winding roads with cliffs, as long as Harry is there to distract me with his lame jokes.

From that stop we took other local buses to get to the Chapultepec Park located just past the Angel de la Independencia which I also wanted to see. The castle was atop a hill in the middle of this forest wonderland that they call Chapultepec Park. Walking the grounds was magical itself but once the castle was in view, my eyes were flooded with it's royal wonder. This is the only castle in North America in which royalty actually lived and it was better than I ever imagined.

Harry was like my personal photographer always asking me to get in the shot and trying to get the right picture from the right angle. Sometimes he'd ask other tourists to take our picture together and he'd take theirs in turn. Inside, the place was even more than I could have imagined. The checked floors, the large staircases, the detailed art, and the views of the city were all so much.

"Harry, this is just so incredible." I say as I lean against the stone railing of the oversized balcony, looking out onto the park below us.
"Quite stunning." he turns his body to face me and crosses his arms.
"I want to get married in a castle. Don't you think it would be so romantic and special?" I ask, still dreamily staring out into the view.
"I guess I never thought of it. There's many castles in England, you know," he takes off his black hat and places it on my head. When I turn to him, he leans down a little and adjusts it, "Perfect." he says making me smile.
"Do you miss England?" I ask, probably catching him off guard. His playful expression suddenly turns more serious.
"I miss my mum and my sister mostly, not so much the actual place. I had never been away from home for more than a week before, not until I came here last semester." he responds and sighs.
"Will you go back after this spring semester?" I ask fearing what his answer will be.
"I don't know, Dani. I miss my family but I know if I leave I will miss you, too." he looks at me from under his eyelashes, searching my response.
"Harry... I would miss you, too." I confess and going in to give him a hug in which he rapidly takes me tightly into his arms. The talk of him leaving really put a damper on my mood.
"The good thing is that until then, we still have the rest of the semester and the rest of this trip. So come on!" he grabs my hand and drags me back inside the castle making me smile.

Back in the hacienda, a lot of students are still missing. Many have gotten into groups and made an daily plan on places they were wanted to visit. I speak for myself when I say I much rather explore at Harry's side instead of in large groups of people I don't know. For dinner, the hacienda's cook made amazing enchiladas that I devoured without second thought. I was glad that I was finally able to taste real Mexican food. I waited for Harry to finish his food, it seems that he's as slow of an eater as he is a talker. It made me giggle that every time he opened his mouth to take a bite, he would stick his tongue out.

"What's so funny?" he asks, a smile wanting to form on his face.
"You stick your tongue out when you eat." I then laugh and he shakes his head.
"I'm gonna get you for that. Watch." he playfully threatens.

Once we both excuse ourselves from the dining table, Harry wants to take a walk. I realize we haven't had much time to roam the hacienda so I comply. We step out into the private backyard, if you could call it that, which was basically an endless amount of territory. I'm sure we could walk miles out into the woods behind it. Instead, we stayed close to the house and discovered that there was a little stone house in the middle of two chunky trees. We walk to it and find there's a Virgin de Guadalupe altar inside complete with lit candles and bouquets of roses along with other gifts. I've never been very religious, but I did know that the Virgin de Guadalupe was a big deal in this country so it did not surprise me. I watched as Harry got on his knees and prayed The Sign of the Cross, touching his brow, then his heart, and lastly each of his shoulders. I have watched so many times as my family members, including my own mother, do this little prayer at church and even to other family members when we left to go somewhere. It was used as a daily blessing and I was in awe seeing that Harry knew it, too.

The dim light coming from the candles inside illuminated his face perfectly. He was so handsome and dreamy but most of all, he was sensitive and understanding. Why do I feel like my crush is turning into me loving my best friend?

Notes

I really wish I could go to the Chapultepec Castle. It's on my to-do list whenever we visit Mexico City. I love travelling and want to visit this city soooo bad. Maybe next year. :)

Anyway, important chapter coming up. Day 3 is going to be a crucial one so stay on the lookout for tomorrow's update. It's half written right now but I will work on it tomorrow morning and post it. I'M EXCITED!

Also, I don't know Harry's religion (have heard different things) so I'm not going to touch on religion again, but I wanted to this time because this virgin is a huge thing in Mexico and I wanted Harry to show respect to it, further getting points with Dani who is of Mexican descent let's not forget. Woah that was a long sentence. lol
