The Spring Semester [On Hold Indefinitely]
Bye Lauren.
The rest of the week, I kept replaying the scene when Lauren was leaving Harry's apartment. I tried to rid myself of the image but it pains me. I messed up, why did I let Harry go?! Seeing him with Lauren so often was killing me slowly. I never did get the balls to ask about what I saw. I don't want to be seen like the crazy friend.
The only thing I was looking forward to was leaving for our trip tomorrow. I had my carry-on all packed and ready to go by the door. A passenger bus will drive us to the airport early tomorrow to make the 6 a.m flight. Jules expressed to me how jealous she was about this trip but asked that I bring back a souvenir for her.
After tossing and turning for hours, my alarm finally goes off. It's 3 a.m and we're supposed to meet outside the school football stadium by 3:30. I hardly slept and felt like crap. I'll probably pass out as soon as I step into the plane. Since my stuff is all ready to go, I just brush my teeth, exchange my pjs for jeans, and put my hair in a bun. I go to grab my favorite hoodie from the closet but spot Harry's jacket he let me borrow the day of the kiss. At the risk of it being weird, I grab it and throw it on. I need something warm and this seemed perfect.
Outside my building the skies are black and the wind is rather cold. I move forward with my wheeled luggage trailing behind me when I see him. Harry is standing next to the tall light pole that illuminates my building's entrance.
"Harry?" I call out making sure it's him.
"Hey, how are you?" he walks my way carrying a large duffle bag and a guitar case. Is he really taking his guitar on this trip?!
"Sleepy. What are you doing here?" I wondered.
"I didn't want you to walk alone. Is that my jacket?" he asks amused.
I laugh nervously before replying, "Uh, yeah. Sorry, do you want it back?"
"Of course not, Dani. You're welcome to use it." he smiles and nudges my hip with his. I smile at his actions and for a moment there, it seemed like nothing was ever wrong.
I was delighted when Harry sat next to me on the bus ride to the airport. This felt so normal, like we were still the same best friends. Even though I was fighting to keep my eyes open earlier, right now I was wide awake trying to absorb his every facial expression. I think I missed him more than I was admitting to myself and that was already a lot.
Without warning, the mental imagine of Lauren leaving his apartment came to me. I must have given physical evidence of my bothersome thought as I noticed Harry's face match mine.
"Is something wrong?" he asks.
I sigh before lying, "No, not at all." but he gives me a questioning look and shifts in his seat. I look around the bus before continuing, "So, um, Lauren is not on the bus." I state instead of asking why.
"Yeah, she's not coming on the trip." his face lightens up and my fallen face suddenly changes back to normal. I try to hide a smile but I try to be polite. Fuck yes! Lauren isn't coming so she won't stink up my trip. I was more than happy now.
"Oh... why?" I question him on her reasons.
"Her parents didn't let her."
"Bummer." I respond and turn to look to the opposite side of him to be able to let out a smile without him noticing. I just couldn't contain it.
I didn't protest one bit as Harry stayed by my side through the motions of the airport. Lauren wasn't here and I could enjoy my best friend fully. Sadly, once we boarded the plane, we knew we had to part ways until Mexico City.
Mexico City, I hope you bring good things to me.
