Teacher's Pet

When I looked up, it wasn't Mr. Payne. It was vice principal Richard Greene. Isn't this fucking great? I thought to myself as he gave me a glare.

"Ms. Young," he started, tilting his egg-shaped head in curiosity, "I'm going to assume that is Mr. Payne's phone. Why do you have it and why is the screen cracked?"

Just as I was going to respond, a familiar voice already did. "I was letting her call her mom, and she must've dropped it while she was putting it back," Mr. Payne spoke from where he was standing behind Mr. Greene.

"Very well," Mr. Greene responded in his disgusting tone.

I returned to my seat while the two men had a discussion. My mind was racing. What the hell did that text mean? Why did Mr. Payne lie for me? There was so many questions that I couldn't answer. I was also afraid of what Mr. Payne was going to say once Mr. Greene left. Was he going to ask why I was going through his phone? What was he going to do? These were more questions I was scared to find out.

After Mr. Greene left, it was silent in the room. Mr. Payne was filling out some sort of paperwork and I kept my head low, hoping he wouldn't say a thing about his phone. My luck was apparently good because he didn't ask about it at all.

At four thirty, my mom called saying she was outside of the school. Mr. Payne walked me out there because it was against school rules to have a student walk out of the school on there own after school hours. I thought everything went well until I heard Mr. Payne say to me, "Next time, you go through someone's privacy, make sure you do a better job of covering it."

I swallowed thickly.

As soon as I got home, I called Adrianna.

"Hey, bitch, you're home," she greeted, smacking her gum.
"Yes, and I have news," I responded gently.
"Ooh, spill the beans, girl!" she squealed.
"Okay, well, I went through Mr. Payne's phone--"
"Woah, wait," Adrianna interrupted, "you went through his phone? You badass!"
"Adri, that's not the point," I told her, "I saw a very disturbing text message."
"What? Like nudes?"
"No, it was like a threat from some guy named Neil or Niall, I don't know how to pronounce it."
"What'd it say?"

I closed my eyes and held my breath, seeing the text message in my brain.

"The guy wanted to know where Mr. Payne was and that there was someone there who wanted his money."

"What the fuck?" Adrianna said, "Mr. Payne is a badass outside of school! What do you think he owes money for?"

"I don't know," I answered honestly, running my fingers through my hair nervously, "But the weird thing was I dropped his phone and the screen cracked, and Mr. Greene caught me with his phone and Mr. Payne lied to him about how I was calling my mom and that I dropped it on the way back. Then, right before I got in the car with my mom, he said, 'Next time, you go through someone's privacy, make sure you do a better job of covering it.' I don't know what that meant."

"Holy shit, Chloe," Adrianna laughed, "That is fucking epic!"
"Adrianna, I'm serious," I said, furrowing my brows, "What if he says something about it tomorrow?"
"Don't worry, Chloe," she assured, "I'm sure he was just giving you a warning. You're a good student, you don't need to worry about getting in trouble."
"Thanks," I said.
"You're welcome," she responded, "Hey, I've gotta go. See you tomorrow, 'kay?"
I laughed, "See you tomorrow."

I hung up and stared up at the ceiling. What is Mr. Payne hiding?

Hey, guys! Sorry for the late update, I've been really busy, and my internet has been running really slow. I also have some news! I was wanting to post this story on Wattpad just in case this website fucks up for good, you'd have another place to read it, but I'm still not sure about it. What do you guys think?
