PRESENT: five years later
Tick tock. Tick tock.
May had her eyes set on the clock as she took out a cake from the oven. She used the vanilla cream to decorate the cake and wrote 'welcome back' on it with the help of a chocolate paste. She looked at the clock one last time before rushing downstairs and towards the bakery.
The Bennetts had their bakery just next to their house, and had a not huge but fair business of selling bakery items.
Ray was sitting in the bakery thinking about the past few years, about his son. As he heard May's footsteps, he immediately let out a calculator from the drawer and started calculating this week's budget.
'You remember, right?' May said as she let out some heavy breaths. Ray did not respond and kept on calculating.
'It's 9:30' she signed, pointing at the clock on the wall, 'we will leave at 10.' Ray didn't reply and simply nodded. 'Come on upstairs and get dressed. I don't wanna be late today' she ordered and went back to the house.
Then Liam's car's horns were heard as he parked the car on a side. 'Dad! I'm here!' he called from the outside making Ray come out of the bakery. 'Have you delivered the pastries?' Ray asked. 'Yes, Dad' Liam answered. 'What about the crumpets?' Ray questioned again, folding his arms and furrowing his brows. 'Yes, that too' Liam replied and took a glance at his wrist watch. 'I gotta go get dressed, don't wanna be late. Today.' he said and ran towards the house.
'Harry Bennet Styles, now 21 years old, had received 5 years punishment in prison for killing a man in a hit and run accident' the judge announced,' Today he has finished his punishment and therefore, I announce that he is released from prison. May God bless him', the judge finished and ordered the guards to unlock the handcuffs on Harry's hands.
As they did, Harry rubbed his wrists and picked up his things from the table. 'Be a good man now, son' the judge said, 'I will' Harry nodded as he picked up his wallet.
'When will he come? It's almost 10:30!' May cried.
'Don't worry, mother. He's coming' Liam said consoling her.
'Come on, brother! Come on!' he whispered, his eyes stick on a small door of the prison.
The door opened and let out a guard who grabbed Harry out. Harry had his eyes half opened due to the dazzling sun rays.
May ran towards him, carelessly crossing the road while Liam followed her and called, 'Mom, be careful!'. She quickly ran onto Harry and hugged him tightly making Harry groan. He hugged her back and signed in relief.
As May pulled out, Harry saw Liam, who was smirking, and the accident was reminded to him:
'It's all your fault!' Liam cried, what...what am I gonna do? I have my exam tomorrow!! It's all your fault, Harry ! All your fault!'.
Harry just gritted his teeth and said, 'Hey, bro!'. Liam laughed hugged his brother.
Harry saw Ray in the car,' Oh Mr Ray is here too! Wow!' he laughed.
After crossing the road, the three reached towards the car. Ray got out and saw Harry. 'Congratulations' he said.
'Yeah, thanks' Harry replied.
'All right get in the car everyone!' Liam called from the back. Harry took a glance at the prison door and got into the car.
'Wow, this new car is... nice. I hope you haven't changed the house', Harry said while looking out of the window,
'No, of course not, honey', May shook her head.
