I sat down at the dinner table and filled my plate with mashed potatoes, salad, and a very juicy slice of steak.

Before we all ate we held hands and said grace.

We started to eat and Uncle Sam brought up the conversation about me working.

“So, what do you want to do after college?” He said.

“I don’t know if I want to go to college.” I said after finishing a piece of steak.

“But honey, you need to go to college.” Aunt Cassie said entering the conversation.

“I don’t need to go to college for what I want to do.” I said.

“Then what do you want to do?” She said.

“I want to race.”

Uncle Sam sighed and put down his fork. “I don’t know if your parents would be okay that.”

“I talked to them about it before I left and they said that they were completely okay with it.”

“It’s too dangerous.”

“I know and I’m willing to put my life on the line so I could be happy. Plus, you said you don’t Blue to race without me on him.”

“He’s not even trained.”

“Then I could train him.”

“I don’t know.”

“I’ve been around horses all my life, not to mention I have been riding since I was five.” My voice was calm, but on the inside I was breathing fire.

“Uncle Sam, Mom and Dad are okay with it, isn’t that enough?”

I stood up and silently walked up to my room and closed the door behind me.

I sat down on my bed and stared at my jersey from horse camp. The memory always makes me happy. I laid down and smiled to myself.

-------------------------------------------------

“Paige get your jersey on!” One of the counselors yelled.

“I’m going to right now!”

I threw my uniform on and grabbed my whip and gloves and buckled my helmet on my head.

I quickly walked out to the tunnel and mounted my horse; Magic. The horse caretaker walked Magic and I out to the gate and Magic walked in calmly but when the gate closed behind him he spooked and immediately I calmed him down by rubbing his neck and shushing him.

The bell rang and the gates opened and Magic dashed out keeping a pace in the front the closer we get to the finish line the faster we go and then he used all his speed once we got to 3 quarters and won.

----------------------------------------------------

I was so happy that day, the feeling it gave me was indescribable. I got a few trophies that day. One for the race, and one for the best progress in the whole camp. I spent half my summer there. The last race (the race I won) was like the Kentucky Derby. The whole town came to watch it. Magic got a flower scarf for beating the camp record and there was a winners’ circle too, where all the people in the camp gathered to get there awards and where the parents met them. That was the best day of my life.

I heard a knock on the door and the memory disappeared.

“Yeah?”

“It’s Uncle Sam.”

“Come in.”

The door opened and Uncle Sam walked in.

I looked at the clock and read it was 11:50.

Dang, I’ve been in here forever.

“So, I thought about what you said, and it’s not my decision if you can or can’t be a jockey.”

I nodded.

“I will let you train and race Blue.”

My eyes grew wide.

“But you know it will take time, right?”

I nodded again.

“Okay, I’ll register you and you can race Dapple for now okay?”

I smiled and nodded.

“I’ll see you in the morning, good night.”

“Goodnight”

Right after Uncle Sam left the room, I grabbed the piece of paper the Aussie boy gave to me and put it in my contacts as ‘Aussie’ then sent him a text.

Notes

Hope this is okay, I tried making this one long to make up the last one.
