Stranded
Prologue
"I can't believe my baby is all grown up."
My mother stifled me as she wrapped her arms tightly around my neck. I know that if she didn't let go soon I was going to miss my plane considering flying internationally meant it took forever to get through security. Patting my mother on her back I gently pulled away before giving my dad and brother a nod.
"Bye, see you in a couple months." I called out as I grabbed my suitcase and headed towards the absurdly long line.
Making sure to hide the fact that my eyes were tearing up I busied myself by digging through my purse for my boarding pass. The opportunity to study abroad had been one that I hadn't dared passed up. I'd lived abroad before, my dad moving us around the world for work, but I'd been insanely bored just staying in the states and needed a change of scenery.
I thankfully managed to make it through customs with only a confiscated water bottle and about half an hour to spare. It was just enough time to get a sandwich and gum for the plane before hurrying to the gate. Booking my ticket early had meant that I had managed to snag a window seat which I was grateful for as the man in aisle seat weighed probably 300 pounds and spilled into the seat next to him. I sent a glance at the boy beside me who tapped his fingers nervously while his leg practically jiggled the whole row.
"Nervous flyer?" I asked.
"Well kinda yeah, I've only actually done this once before, and it was this morning." The boy shot me a nervous grin before squeezing his eyes closed as the engines started and the stewardess anounced that we were taking off.
"Chew this it'll help." I offered passing him a piece of gum before leaning back against my seat with a book.
It was about 10 hours into the flight when I noticed something was wrong. Even though my ears were cleared they started to built with pressure as the air felt lighter somehow causing goosebumps to form along my arms. Sitting up I rubbed my eyes tiredly before peering out of the small window at the ocean below and the overhead map that told us that we were just crossing the equator. As the plane bounced up and down slightly I chalked it up to turbulence and started to go back to sleep.
"Is this normal?" Came the harsh whisper from the boy next to me.
I went to tell him it was just turbulence when the plane went into a nose dive our window flashing between sky and sea. The oxygen masks dropped but catching them was difficult in the bouncing cabin. Pulling it on I turned to see the boy next to me hyperventilating into the small bag and I placed my hand over his white knuckles and gave it a squeeze. As the plane started to level I let out an audible sigh but it came to soon as the plane dropped again and everything faded to black.
Notes
Hey everyone!
I wanted to try something new get some isolated character and community development so I figured why not drop my characters on a deserted island. :) The next chapter will be a lot more interesting I promise!
