Chapter 1: The Newbie
Jessa’s POV
Walking around in the back, I could here my boss, Kristy, talking to the newbie. I blonde hair back into a low ponytail before grabbing my apron from the hook and walked through the swinging door. My eyes landed on the new guy; he had chocolate brown eyes, black hair and a bold jawline. I looked into his eyes then looked at Kristy.
“Good morning.” I mumbled walking around them.
“Good morning.” She spoke softly to me and then looked at him again. “If you have any questions, just ask Jessa.”
“Okay.” He nodded as she walked through the back doors.
“I’m Jessa by the way.” I introduced myself awkwardly.
“And I’m Zayn.” His voice was gentle but scary at the same time. “What should I do first?”
“Uhm, wash your hands and then we can set everything up. We don’t open for an hour.” I usually just set it up and then relaxed.
“Does that mean I cant have a cup of coffee until we open?” He chuckled.
“No, I already have that one starting.” I pointed to the brewing coffee in the corner.
“Good.” He sighed rinsing all the soap off of his hands. “Does anybody else work today?”
“Just you, me and Kristy.” I shrugged restocking the cups. “But Fridays are usually slow.”
He nodded drying his hands off before helping me set up. Once we were done setting up, we sat on the counters and listened to the radio.
“So, what kind of music do you like?” He asked awkwardly.
“All kinds besides jazz, opera and ghetto rap. I like to feel the beat.” I loved music so I wasn’t too critical. “What about you? You look like you listen to indie music or pop, am I right?”
“Yea, I like almost everything besides opera and jazz too.” He smiled over at me. “Let’s play 20 questions, just to get to know each other since we have to work together for the rest of the week.”
“Okay.” I went along with it. “Favorite color?”
“Green. Favorite animal?” He had to think about it for a second.
“Horse. Where were you born?”
“Bradford. How old were you when you had your first kiss?” He looked at me as I thought.
“My first kiss was when I was 4 but my first kiss with any emotion, I was 12. Dream car?” I could think of any good ones.
“1966 Chevrolet Camaro. Where do you want to visit before you die?” He had good questions, he probably plays this a lot.
“Paris. How old were you when you lost your virginity?” I blurted out that question before thinking.
“16, nice question. How old were you?” He laughed.
“16. Do you play any instruments?” I kept going, no reason to stop.
“I can sing. Play any sports?”
“Cheer and volleyball.” I had to stop and think but couldn’t. “I ran out of questions.”
“Do you play any instruments?”
“Guitar and I can sing too. How old are you?”
“18, you?”
“17 but in 2 weeks I’ll be 18.”
“Oh, we have a baby in the house.” He laughed hearing the bell ring.
We both stood up and turned around to see two old women walk slowly to us. Zayn looked at me with a confused expression but I didn't understand what he meant.
“Good morning ladies.” I smiled at them.
“Good morning Jessa.” They were regulars. “Who is this lovely gentleman?”
“This is Zayn, he’s new.” I pointed to him and saw him smile.
“He’s a looker.” They both laughed making him blush.
