Prologue

For the first time in 3 years Mr. Henderson was late. His coffee was going cold on his desk and the morning messages were turning into afternoon messages. The rest of the office was a buzz of harsh whispers and unnecessary speculation.

Sitting behind my desk I took another glance at the clock. Darren being late just meant that I didn't have to work. The next episode of Supernatural was begging to be played but I was annoyingly interrupted by Elliot walking up to my desk.

"Why do you suppose he's late?"

I just gave him a shrug of my shoulders. If it had been something serious we probably would know but I figured no news was good news. Darren had been looking for his next project for a while now. I'd had to go through countless scripts, producers and disgruntled actors but nothing had caught his interest. Hopefully his absence meant that soon we'd all actually have something to do.

When I'd applied for the job several years earlier as a broke college student I hadn't expected to actually get it. Darren Henderson was one of the biggest names in directing and was infamous for firing his personal assistants. But surprisingly I'd not only gotten it but managed to hold onto the job. I suppose it was just a balance between being willing to do odd things and being able to juggle six or seven tasks at once.

"He's here."

Elliot furrowed his eyebrows at me like I was going mad. I suppose most people just assumed that he just wasn't going to show up at all. But the images flashing on my computer screen were undeniable; Mr. Henderson was standing in the elevator briefcase in hand. Others in the office had often tried to get me to divulge how exactly I always knew when he arrived, which was really just a clever hack into the security system, but a girl has to have some mystery.

"3....2....1."

The elevator doors opened with a ding and people hurried around trying to look like they'd actually been doing something productive, instead of watching TV or whatever else they'd been doing. Pouring a fresh cup of coffee I grabbed my legal pad and hurried to Darren's side.

"Morning Sir."

"Morning Cecily."

Following him into the large office I placed the memos on his desk and got ready to make myself scarce. Darren and I had fallen into a comfortable routine and I had thought today was no different.

"Cecily."

I turned in the door to see Darren leaned back in his chair his feet on his desk. He had a smile on his face that I couldn't quite read.

"Yes sir?"

"Didn't you wonder why I was late."

"It's none of my business sir."

At that Darren let out a loud laugh that sent a wave of confusion through me. He removed his feet from his desk leaning his elbows where his feet were. The mischievous smile made me rather nervous. I'd seen that expression on his face before and it was usually before chaos ensued.

"I just got out of a meeting with some big producers. They have a new project that they want me on and I think it's just the one I've been looking for. Tell me have you heard of The Odd Ones?"

Notes

Hey everyone!

So this idea has been in my brain for quite a while but I finally managed to spit it out onto the screen. The prologue is a little short but the next chapter should be longer :) (expect it early next week)

Let me know what you think!

Lots of love girlies
