“Because,” I tell him. “Maybe someday you will break my heart. Someday I will have no choice but to go back. Someday I will have to suffer heartbreak. Loss. But I would have also had this. How can that be bad?”
"And it's not scary?”
“Nothing’s scary when you hold me this way.”
He pulls me close to his chest.
I can hear the steadily beating rhythm of his heart.
“I need you,” he says. “I need you because you make the darkness seem less scary. Because every time I touch you I need you even more. Because you’re perfect.”
