Something Good Can Work: Book Two - ON HOLD INDEFINITELY-

So long

“C’mere Baby” Christopher said with a grin as his fingers reached for the volume control on his dashboard, the harmonica flowed from the speakers as Aerosmith’s “Crazy” played for the fourth time this week. “You’re seriously listening to this again?” I asked as he accelerated up the steep hill that met our drive way. He was driving me to Gran’s house, it was my first weekend back since school had started. We were about a month in and this was the first weekend I wasn’t swamped with studies.
“Seriously.” He said with a wink before he continued to sing along, mocking Steven Tyler’s vocal stylings. I shook my head and looked out the window, I couldn’t resist long though. Soon enough I was belting the lyrics out with him. He’d said my mother used to listen to this song constantly when they were together. He said he always felt the need to listen to it when I was in the car with him. He told me I looked more and more like her every day. To be honest I wasn’t sure how that made me feel. Things with Christopher had been great, he was way cooler than I’d originally given him credit for. It was also kind of cool having a little sister. Seeing her was the high light of my day. She was so sweet and happy; it was just a great set up. I was falling more and more in love with my family every day.
“You know, Roberta and I have been talking….” Christopher said as he turned the music down. We were about 10 minutes from Gran’s, this was never a promising start to a conversation either.
“About…?” My brow arched as I turned to look at him.
“About you and Harry.” He looked over at me briefly with a blank expression before looking back at the road. They loved Harry, or so I’d thought?
“He’s a good kid and it’s obvious that you can be responsible with him…”
“But?” I said a little too quickly, definitely not liking where this was going.
“But nothing, Roberta and I decided we have plenty of room at the house if he wants to come up for a weekend. Since you’ve been so busy with school and haven’t been able to see him as much as you wanted, we figured we’d help out. If there is a weekend he can come up, he can sleep in one of the spare rooms in the house. Your bedroom is disconnected anyway, so it’s not like he can easily sneak into your bedroom.” Christopher finished his offer with a wink, cheeky bastard.
“Are you serious?! That’s awesome, that would be so great it would make things so much easier. You’re the best!” I was beyond excited, Harry and I had been having a weird patch lately so this was great news. I know it’s because we aren’t able to see each other as often as we’d like, so this was the perfect plan.
“Speak of the Devil.” Christopher said as he turned on to Gran’s street. My eyes looked up as the smile on my face quickly faded, Harry and Louis were both in Niall’s yard, with a girl I’d never seen before. She had long dark hair, it was a mess though – in an obnoxiously cute way. Her body was long and lean, she had on a pair of ripped tights and a long t-shirt, she looked so effortlessly cool. Thick black eyeliner and the biggest eyes stared back at me.
“Yikes, that was an abrupt mood swing.” I heard my father say before I looked at him and sighed.
“Shut up, it’s because… it’s just that they’re at Niall’s.” I defended, even though really it was because of the girl. She looked familiar, but I couldn’t place her. Harry turned and looked at me, a wide goofy grin on his face as he began to sprint after our car. Lou was not far behind. As soon as Christopher had parked my door was pulled open and Harry was yanking me out of the car. I let out a squeal as he lifted me up and gave me a bone crushing hug.
“Can’t. Breathe” I groaned. He laughed and gave me a sloppy kiss on the cheek before setting me down. Christopher was looking up at him with a stern glare.
“Sorry Mr. Beckett.” He said promptly. Christopher quickly laughed though before getting out. He always helped me unload my junk.
“What’s up cuz.” Lou said as he finally arrived, giving me a rather large hug as well.
“I’ve only been gone like four weeks, calm down people.” I joked, seriously though I was stoked at the amount of enthusiasm they were showing. It made me feel special, duh.
“That’s way too long, we’ve been dying around here. No one to sarcastically mock Lou, no one to make sure I get home safe. We’ve missed you.” Harry said with a pout and a wink before walking toward the trunk of the car to help Christopher.
“Yeah, no one to mock me at all, huh?” Lou said with a scoff. I closed the trunk and then looked back at Niall’s house, the girl was looking down at her phone. I wondered why she didn’t come with them. I heard Harry’s phone buzz, but he didn’t acknowledge it. Damn my over active imagination.

Once inside the guys put my stuff in my room Christopher talked to my Gran for a bit before he had to go back home, he was taking Clari to the ballet. I was a little jealous, no one ever took me to the ballet when I was growing up, but oh well. We all ate dinner and caught up and finally I was able to get some alone time in with Har.
We made our way up to my room, he promptly jumped me after shutting the door and kissed me for what felt like an eternity. His soft lips had been severely missed. Things with Elliot had gotten back to a friendly manner, no more flirting. He knew I was with Harry and he was respectful. He was a good guy.
Harry felt so familiar, so comfortable. I’d missed his embrace more than I realized. We were lying side by side on my bed, just looking at each other; random kisses, a few hair tucks, fingers tangling together in a clumsy fashion and of course his green eyes were burning into me. He made my stomach do somersaults. How had I ever gone so long without seeing him.
“Good news.” My voice softly speaks, interrupting our serenity.
“Yes?” He inquires.
“Christopher and Bobby say you can stay with us on the weekends I can’t come down if you feel so inclined.”
“No way? That’s the best news ever!” Now the calm was gone, he was as excited as I had been earlier.
“Yes way. I’m so excited.”
His arms found their way around me again as he pressed his palm against the small of my back, cutting off the conversation as his lips found mine. My eyes closed as soon as he pressed himself against me. His tongue was testing the water, slowly creeping between my lips before he finally took the plunge. He moved over so that he was above me, his hand slowly sliding up the side of my shirt and I knew where this was headed.
“Oi oi, get up! We’ve got places to be!” Louis said as he walked in, turning the overhead light on and then cringing when he saw what he’d walked into.
“Gross dude, lock the door.” He said before grabbing a pillow and throwing it at our faces. We had pulled away quickly, Harry looked pissed – but just as abrupt as the mood had changed, it switched again. Harry and I were laughing like loons.
“Where do we have to be?” I asked while brushing my fingers through my curls.
“Liam is having a get together, so everyone can see you really. Minimal drinking and such, real low key. So come on.” He rolled his eyes as he turned to walk out, undoubtedly going to his car. I did a quick glance at my reflection and grabbed as sweater before sliding on my chucks. “Ready babe?” I asked as I looked back at Harry who was sitting on the bed looking over at me. I arched a brow and walked over to sit by him, taking his hand in mine.
“What’s wrong?” I asked with a frown.
“It’s just… there is someone new in our group….” He said unsure.
“The girl you were with earlier?” I asked.
“Yes. She moved in about two weeks ago.”
“Great, can’t wait to meet her.” I said trying to keep an open mind.
“Yeah about that… She is a little psycho.”
“What? How so?”
“Remember the girl… the one Niall told you about? Effy?”
I felt my stomach drop.
The girl that ruined their friendship.
The girl Harry lost his virginity to.
The girl.
“Yeah…” I said uneasy.
“Well, that’s her.” His eyes were searching for a reaction from me, but I didn’t give him one. I simply sucked in my upper lip and inhaled.
“Fine, whatever. It’s in the past, let’s go.” I said with a nod, like clockwork we heard Louis honking the horn of his car loudly.
“Just, don’t believe everything she says, okay?” He said as he stood up and took my hand. “She’s toxic.”
“Why are you all hanging out with her then?” I asked as we walked.
“Not my choice, Lou…he’s into her I guess? I don’t know. Ali hates her though.” He said with a shrug.
“Jeez… I can’t even leave for a month and things go crazy.” I said with a laugh.
“You have no idea.”
