Only Ever You

“All good” the nurse says smiling encouragingly at me “At this stage of your pregnancy from what we can tell you and the baby are fine” Luke squeezes my hand and I feel relieved. Its only been two weeks since I told him along with my family, but I found myself constantly worried that something had happened to our baby. I had never thought myself to be the parenting person. But every time I looked down at my stomach I couldn’t help laughing with excitement, and then seconds later I’d be crying with fear and worry. It was like I was no longer in control of my emotions anymore, the thing I would have last wanted to happen just a few weeks was to be sitting here in this clinic, a month pregnant, but here I was and I wouldn’t swap places with anyone for the world.

“Are you the lucky man then?” the nurse says looking at Luke, who immediately blushes “Thats me” he says grinning. “Aw, young love” the nurse says. Luke puts his arm around my shoulder and we leave the room.
I am so tired, every bone in my body aches as we walk to the car and I need all the help I can get to stumble into the car park, even with Luke supporting me. I practically collapse into the car. We drive to my mothers house.
When we arrive she kisses my cheek “You ok honey?” I nod “Thanks mum” She’s standing in front of the door blocking our way inside “Um..mum?” I ask her. “Well honey.. I tried to get him to leave before you came back but it would have just been rude..” A knot of worry is in my stomach, because I know whats coming next, and Im not prepared, and this isn’t the time, and Luke is here, Oh god!

“Ok, well I guess there isn’t a better time to tell him!” I say as brightly as I can and practically march into my house. Calum is sitting on the chair chatting to Ashton. “Hi baby sis” he says when he sees me raising his hand and waving. “Oh maybe not such a baby sis after all” he says winking at me. I sigh and shake my head “Hey Calum” I greet. He looks confused but returns my greeting.
Luke enters the room and the whole atmosphere changes “Awkward” Ashton says letting out a long whistle and hurrying to leave the room. In a flash of brown curls Melissa replaces him seemingly oblivious to the awkwardness, she has Danny in her arms. “Danny Aunty Ashley is here” she says pointing at me. “Wheres the baby?” he asks causing her to laugh “Oh, Danny the baby won’t come for a long time yet” she replies and he loses interest following his father out the door.

“So Ashley how was your appointment?”Melissa asks me. I have been steadily watching Calum look more and more confused. He cuts into Melissa “What appointment?” he asks “Is everything okay Ash?” before I can reply Luke jumps in “As a matter of fact, Calum everything is more than fine” he says putting his arm possessively around me

“In fact its more than fine, myself and Ashley are expecting a baby.”
