Only Ever You

Calums POV:

First days at work are always stressful, really stressful, I literally cannot believe I’m wearing a tie, I never wear ties if only Luke could see me now he would be on the floor laughing… but Luke isn’t here right now of course he isn’t, we hate each other now, except I dont hate him I dont think I ever could, there’s just those people who you’re connected to and can’t imagine living without, he’s that person for me, the strangeness between us is eating me up inside.
I never thought i would end up working at a school of all places, I hated my own school but when you’re almost broke and get a job offer, what else can you do but accept? Grange Hill High is one ugly school from the outside, all grey bricks and white blinds.

I head straight for the reception, a auburn haired receptionist smiles up at me, “You must be…” she consults her list “Mr Hood” I smile at her “Thats me” I point at myself, then feel stupid. “Right, so I’m sure when you came for the interview they told you, for the first month here you’ll be shadowing a teacher and maybe taking over some of their classes” I nod, hoping the teacher isn’t some ancient relic. “Right, you’re with Miss Irwin” she smiles at me “I think you two will get along”

As soon as I hear the name I freeze. Oh my god. I shake my head Irwin isn’t that uncommon a name is it? God, it is.
If anyone could win an award for getting to any place as slow as possible, it would be me I practically walk at a snails pace to E3, I was so shocked the receptionist had to repeat directions to me, twice. Since when was Ashley a teacher, since when? Not while we were together that was for sure, a lot of things had changed since then, but not one thing, i was still head over heels in love with her and now in massive, massive trouble.

I knocked on the wooden door and braced myself for what was waiting for me. “Come in” chirped that all too familiar voice, my final doubts were gone, I could never forget that voice. I swung the door open, thirty pairs of eyes all focused on me, I only cared about one startled pair, Ashley’s.

“Hi” I said weakly waving, of all the schools, of all the schools. Ashley stared at me for a full minute then blinked and seemed to regain her composure “Right, class this is our new assistant teacher” Someone whistled, hushed whispers followed. “Hi” I said again awkwardly “Well Mr Hood, we better find you a seat for now” said Ashley, if the situation wasn’t like this I would be laughing at her calling me that, but this was no laughing situation.
“He can sit next to me miss” simpered a pink-haired girl, batting her eyelashes at me. ‘Ew’ I thought in my head. “No I dont think so Christina” said Ashley, she pointed to a seat opposite from her desk “I guess here is the only free space.” she didnt sound happy about this, not one bit.

And I could bet my life on the fact that someone else wouldn’t be happy about this, Luke.
