Only Ever You

Lukes POV:

I feel so bad, I had to cancel on Ashley yesterday because I could hardly get out of bed, I felt so ill. But Im going to make it up to her today.

I arrive outside the door of her flat and knock twice. Anika comes to the door, she looks angry “Leave right now or I’m calling the pol-“ she stops when she sees me “Oh, its you Luke, sorry.. I thought you were someone else” she finishes.

I shift from foot to foot feeling awkward. “Is everything alright?” I ask her. “Oh, yeah its all fine… um so do you want to see Ash?” “No I came all the way here carrying these” I gesture to the roses and the bag I am carrying “To stand here and admire the view” she looks startled, and she still won’t move away from the door. “Joke, Anika” I say. “Oh, ha” she says looking all around her, its like she expects something, or someone to jump out of her.

“So..may I see Ashley anytime soon?” I ask her getting impatient at her strange behaviour.
“Um.. well Im not sure about that, I think she’s sleeping she had a hard day” Just as she says that I hear Ashley say “Oh, God is she back Anika?” Anika goes bright red, knowing I have caught her out on her lie. I wonder if Ashley told Anika to lie because she’s still angry with me because of yesterday “Are you going to let me in or what?” I demand and push past her.

Ashley looks awful, her hair is messed up and there is a mark on her cheek, that looks like a hand I rush over to her “Are you alright?” I say urgently. She tries to smile but looks teary “Im fine, Luke” Anika has entered the room “Who did this to her?” I demand, “It was an accident, I was being clumsy as usual I tripped an hurt my face, luckily Ani was here to help me” I search Anika’s face she looked startled “Um.. yeah she fell” she says very unconvincingly.
I turn to Ashley, the mark is slowly fading and her face is returning to its usual colour, I dont know whats going on here but they definitely didn’t just tell me the truth. “So Happy Valentines Day, I’ll give you two a little space.” Anika quickly picks up her coat and rushes out of the room faster than I’ve ever seen her move before.

We’re left in uncomfortable silence. “Im so sorry I let you down yesterday, I just felt so ill, I had plans to take you out today but we can stay here if you want” I say “Its alright” she says nervously “That sounds good.” I hand her the flowers and card I bought her “Thank you!” she says and reaches forward to kiss me on the cheek, this feels so strange.
She’s trying to hide something with her body and I dont know what, I peer behind her and see it on the floor a card, its ripped but as I stoop to pick it up I can make out most of the words, my heart turns cold, Its from Calum.

Ashley realises that I have seen it “Luke, its not like that I swear its not” she babbles i just pick up the card and stare at her in disbelief. Her hair has swung backwards giving me a view of her neck, around it hangs the infinity necklace I once gave her, I feel sick.
“Dont even try” I say. I know what this means, the lied to me I dont know what exactly happened before I got here but I can take a guess. God, I’m stupid. She tries to reach for me “Dont touch me, save it for Calum” I say and she looks distraught.

I leave her apartment, my head held high, Im breaking inside.

Happy Valentines Day, some joke this day turned out to be. I notice Im still carrying the card I rip it up with venom, hating Calum Hood, hating Ashley Irwin.
