Only Ever You

Luke cancelled on me. Its Valentines Day and Im so annoyed at him, so much for a day of blissful love spent together.

If he had given me a proper reason i would have been better but Oh no all I got was a text as I sat in the restaurant waiting for him ‘Sorry I can’t make it tonight’ that was all. I went home and fumed to Anika about his selfishness and she did her usual, trying to calm me down and make me see reason.

Oh, and to add to my bad mood I have to teach a class full of happy teens with roses being delivered every two minutes. I sigh as Natalie knocks on the door again, I wonder who it will be delivered to this time? She comes in and sweetly smiles, I can’t help smiling back she looks so utterly ridiculous with droopy cupid wings hanging limply from her shoulders and hearts painted all over her face, she walks up to Austin’s table already covered in a heap of roses. She adds three more, and he grins pompously, God I want to slap him so bad.
“This proves my point, the ladies love me” he says smirking at his best friend Chuck, “Okay Austin, you can stop gloating now” I say, he smiles at me looking angelic

“Miss, its not my fault Im just so popular today” he winks at me, I roll my eyes. The bell saves me from saying something regrettable to him “Class Dismissed, and girls please dont send Austin anymore roses or he’ll be even more insufferable” they all erupt into giggles, they are hopeless.

Luckily for me, Anikas love life is as bad as mine, we sit on the sofa watching soppy movies and snacking on pretzels and chocolate. “Who needs guys, eh?” she says. There is a knock on our door, she groans “Ash, I would get that but Im in a really comfortable position” she says. I chuck a pretzel at her “You lazy cow” I say and walk to the door.

Standing there is the last person in the world I expect to see, Jade. She looks absolutely livid, she is almost shaking with anger. Before I have any time to react she slaps me so hard I go reeling backwards. My face stings so hard and I think I bashed my head hard on the floor. Anika comes running at the sound “Oh My God what the hell are you doing?” she shouts.
“Im giving this back stabbing, boyfriend stealing whore a piece of my mind!” Jade bellows back. I cower in the corner of the room, scared out of my mind she looks deranged. Anika gives me her arm and pulls me up and I struggle to stay standing.

“What did I do to you?” I ask. “Dont act all innocent with me I can see right through you” she replies spitting out the words. “Can you calm the heck down!” Anika says “And then explain what the heck your on about”

Jade is crying angry tears now, and I see whats in her hand, A Valentines Card, she angrily brandishes it in front of us “Read it” she demands. My hands trembling I take it and open it to familiar handwriting, Calum’s.
It reads:

Dear Ashley,
I thought i could let you go, but I can’t I have tried again and again I dont want to mess up you’re life but theres no point pretending anymore, I love you Ashley Irwin more than I’ve ever loved any other girl in my life.

I openly gawp at the card in my hands, what the hell. I look up at Jade who is in such a mess, I feel such pity for her now. “Where did you find this?” I ask softly. “He went out at lunch I found it under his pillow” she says. Anika just looks confused, I hand her the card, her eyes go wide as she reads it “Listen up” she says turning to Jade “Im sorry and all that your boyfriend still loves my best friend, but you have no right to come storming up here, hit her and then scream the flat down, she is perfectly happy in her relationship thank you, so if you wouldn’t mind the doors that way, please leave.”

I expect Jade to fight, to argue but she just slumps her shoulders and leaves not saying another word. As soon as the door is closed I collapse into Anika’s waiting arms, but I dont cry, because I dont know what to do, it just feels safe her hugging me tightly, and I dread the moment where I will have to face the world again.
