YOU AND I

“Bye,” I waved to Zayn and Louis after they left me off in my class and went on their way to theirs.

I had Geography and they had English. I don’t know why, but a small part of me wished that we could had the same first period. Maybe then, I wouldn’t have to handle all the stares all by myself. As far as I know, a new student in a school gets abandoned mostly unless they have their own charms. And charms, I have none. Embracing myself for the awkwardness, I stepped into the class.

And as I had expected the whole class stared at me. I avoided all their gazes and made my way to the back of the class. But before I could reach to the backseat, someone tugged my hand.

“Hi, I’m Sara. New admission, huh?” the girl who tugged my hand asked me. She had this big smile plastered on her face and I could tell it was fake.

“Yup,” I smiled back politely and she let go of my hand.

“Come, sit here,” she patted the seat next to her. I could feel all the stares at me and some hushed whispers. And I don’t know whether it was a good sign or not.

“Umm, thanks,” I said after a minute. I didn’t want to get into any kind of trouble with anyone on the first day itself. And more hushed whispers.

“Ok, let me introduce some of my other friends here. This is Joe, my bff. And there is Amanda, Kelly, Felicia, Lexi and Monique. Over there is Gabbrielle, …” and she droned on and on.

I think she might have introduced me half of the class. Definitely, the queen bee, I decided.

“Oh,how rude of me. I totally forgot to ask your name. What’s your name, honey?” she asked all of a sudden. Thank god, I heard it the first time she asked cause I wasn't really paying attention to her.

“Davina,” I replied.

“Oh, Davina. Guys, this is Davina,” she introduced to all of them whom she just introduced to me.

“So, the guys who left you at the class just now… You know them?”

Well, that was it. She was clearly being nice to me because of Zayn and Louis. Maybe, she had a crush on either of them. To be honest, both of them were cute actually.

“Uhhh. Not really. I was lost and they just helped me out. Quite kind of them actually,” I said honestly. I didn’t want to lie just to get some attention. In fact, I didn’t want any attention at all. I was already regretting sitting next to her.

“Oh. So y-,” teacher came in before she could ask me anymore questions.

“Ok, class. Ready to get started?” the teacher asked in a cheery voice and I really hoped the teacher would change my place because I was new there or something. I kept my fingers crossed till the second the teacher saw the note on her desk, realizing there was a new student in her class.

“Davina Allison Vincent, where are you?” she asked, looking around the class.

“Over here,” I said, standing up.

“Hi Davina. Welcome to Weinsteid High. I’m Mrs Albertson, your Geography teacher. I can see you’ve made yourself some friends which is great by the way. But would you stick with Gina for today? Both of you have the same timetable and she’ll help you out, won’t you Gina?” it was a girl, sitting at the end of the class all by herself. She smiled at me and it was nothing like the one Sara gave me earlier.

I heaved a huge sigh of relief and gathered my stuff. Sara mouthed “Later” to me and smiled. Yeah right, I thought to myself and quickly made my way to the back of the class as I had wanted. Apparently, luck has decided to be on my side and I can never be more grateful for that.

“Hey,” Gina greeted me as soon as I sat next to her. “Nice meeting you,” she said, still smiling.

“Yup, me too,” I said honestly and relieved. I smiled back at her. And the class started.
