After what seemed like an eternity, the bell rang at last. I quickly grabbed my stuff but Gina was just dragging, collecting her books and stationery one by one.

“Hey, can you like hurry up?” I asked her, juggling from one foot to another.

“What’s up with the hurry?” she asked me quizzically.

“Ummmm nothing ummm nature’s call,” I said at last.

“Hmmm just gimme a minute,” she didn’t believe me.

Before we left the class, she turned back one last time. I grabbed her by her wrist and dragged her.

“So where to next?” I asked her after I was sure that we had lost him.

“I thought you said you had to use the restroom?” she asked me.

“Uh yeah. I meant which way,” I said, smiling cheekily.

“Fine, I’ll ask. What’s wrong?” she asked, looking me in the eye.

“What? No. Nothing. I’m good,” I said, looking away. But she crossed her arms, waiting, cocking her eyebrows. I sighed.

“It’s a guy,” I started but she cut me off before I could continue any further.

“What?! A guy?! First day of school and already guy trouble? I’m impressed,” she said, patting my back. And then she started walking.

“Wait, where are you going?” I asked her, following her.

“To the canteen. It’s recess,dummy, and we have a free period next. So we have lots of free time and you can tell your story there. Come on,” she said enthusiastically.

I just smiled and followed her. She was skipping happily now. And I already liked her so much. She’s just full of surprises and wonder.

“Wow that’s quite a first impression you’ve made there,” Gina said after I told her how I first met him.

We were sitting at a bench by the school field. It was quite refreshing there. The slow wind blowing, the shady tree, the fallen leaves and flowers, the not-too-hot-or-too-cold weather.

“So who’s this guy again?” she asked me.

“I don’t know his name but he was at our English class just now,” I admitted the truth sheepishly.

“So that explains the discomfort and the hurry,” she said accusingly but more in a playful way. I just shrugged.

“And fyi, there are more than one boy in our English if you hadn’t realized. So some description would be really helpful,” she said, nudging me.

“Ha ha, very funny. It’s the guy that get caught two times for talking in the class. Oh wait there were two of them that get caught. It’s the curly-haired one. And not the blonde one,” I said.

Gina coughed and looked at me wide-eyed.

“What? What’s wrong?” I turned back to see if anyone were standing behind us, but there were no one.

“Are you like sure?” Gina asked me in disbelief.

“Of course. I’m not making anything up. He smiled and waved at me when we first entered the class. And he literally stared at me throughout the class. I could literally feel his stare burning me,” I said, crossing my arms.

Before Gina could say anything else, I heard a voice from behind me.

“Hey, I’ve been searching for you all over the place, like literally the whole school,” it was Sarah, of course.

“Hi Gina. Long time no see,"she said an octave too high.

"Hey,” Gina mumbled back.

“So, mind if we too joined you?” Sarah asked us. Of course she her parade with her.

“No, absolutely not. But we were just leaving,” I said, to my astonishment. Where the hell did that come from?

Gina stared at me in awe before chiming in, “Yeah Davina said she had to grab a couple of stuff from her lock before heading to our next class,”

We smiled apologetically and took off. Sarah gawked at us, more at me. Clearly no one has turned her down before. But listening to Gina just now about Sarah made me decide that I should maintain my distance with her. I’d rather be with Gina.

I turned to look at a smiling face Gina. She was obviously happy to have turned Sarah down. She hooked her arm with mine and walked off together, smiling, like we were already best friends. I guess we were.
