The Hipsters and The Girl

Baby Day

Alex’s POV

“He’s asleep now.” I whispered to Louis while I bounced Taylor in my arms gently.

“Okay sweet, lets clean up the stuff and go.” He whispered back to me as he stood up.

I set him back in his carseat and then helped Louis clean up the blanket from our picnic. We cleaned up quickly and then went back to the car. I put Taylor’s car seat in the backseat before getting into the passenger seat next to Louis.

“Let’s go get dinner.” Louis said as he turned the radio onto a low volume so it didn't wake Taylor up.

“What are we gonna get?” I asked lacing my hand with his.

“I don’t know but my mom said that we would have the house to ourselves and they're out of food.” Louis bit his lip in thought.

“Lets go to the grocery store then, I’ll cook tonight.” I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket so I pulled my hand from his and got my phone. “Hey mom.”

“Hey sweetie, how’s your day with Taylor?” She sounded really tired.

“Great, he’s asleep right now and we’re planning dinner.” I was talking really quietly because Taylor was fidgeting in the backseat.

“That’s amazing. We can pick him up in an hour if that works for you?” She yawned out that last sentence.

“Yea, that’s fine.” I shrugged lacing my fingers with Louis’s.

“Okay, bye.” She hung up quickly so set my phone down on my lap.

Taylor woke up as I was putting him in the cart. His little green eyes opened slowly before his hands rubbed at them. When his hands came down, he looked at me and then smiled.

“Hi baby boy.” I greeted him with a smile.

“Ria!” He reached up to me with his arms out so I picked him up because he looked really sad.

“You okay little man?” I asked as he rubbed his eyes again.

He didn't say anything, he just wrapped his arms around my neck and rested his head on my shoulder. I rubbed his back and looked at Louis while he started pushing the cart. We walked into the store with me trying to make Taylor okay or go back to sleep.

“Whyre those women staring at us?” I asked Louis as I pulled my sunglasses off and we walked into the store.

“Maybe because you're a 19 year old girl holding a 2 year old, they probably think that he’s your son.” Louis was probably right so I shrugged and felt Taylor lean back and look at me with a smile.

“Hey baby boy, let’s get you something to eat.” I said with a smile and he nodded while I reached into the diaper bag for something but there was nothing. “Actually, let’s just get you a…” I looked around for something he could eat. “A banana.” I walked over and grabbed one.

“Here, I’ll hold him so you can go buy that so we don’t get in trouble for stealing.” Louis reached for Taylor so I handed him over.

“I’ll be right back.” I smiled at Taylor and kissed Louis’s cheek before walking away.

I headed toward the registers and heard Louis make Taylor giggle. That is one of the best sounds I’ve ever heard. I really don’t mind the whole having to take care of a kid thing like I used to. Maybe that’s what happens when you gro-

“Excuse me, miss?” An older woman stopped me with her husband by her side.

“Yes?” I asked politely.

“I saw you comfort your son with your husband and I wanted to say that I’m proud of you. It’s rare to see a teen mom who is such a good mom and actually with the dad of the baby.” She had the sweetest smile on her face but I was slightly offended. “I’m sorry if that came off insensitive, I just wanted to compliment you on it. My daughter was a teenage mother and that didn't turn out very well.”

“Oh thank you. But he isn't my son, he’s my little brother. And that’s my boyfriend not my husband.” I looked at the man as he sighed in relief.

“Well, still, your doing a great job with him. You and your boyfriend are naturals.” The older woman smiled at me while she went in for a hug with me.

“Thank you.” I smiled and then remembered what I was doing. “I really need to go buy this so I can feed him.”

“Good luck with him.” The older man smiled down at his wife as she let go of me.

“Thank you, have a nice day.” I smiled and walked away to the registers.
