Kat POV
“All Rise”
The bailiff said as the judge entered the room, he introduced her and then instructed us to all be seated. It was an absolute circus outside; it took thirty minutes just to get inside the court room. Jason and I were sitting in the front row, next to our sergeant. In front of us and to the left, sat an exhausted Zayn. His eyes were swollen from lack of sleep and his lips were chapped to the point of bleeding. I looked him over, he didn’t look guilty. How had I not seen it before? My thoughts were interrupted as I heard the ADA fighting for no bail, while the defense attorney tried to reason with the judge. It was even more a circus in here. There were no camera’s allowed, but everyone who could possibly be here, was here.
Jason leaned over, I felt his arm press against mine as he whispered. “This isn’t going to go well for Mr. Malik, this judge is hard pressed on making an example out of a celebrity and he’s the perfect specimen.” He was speaking to me, so that was good. The things he was saying though? Not so good. The judge denied him bail, with a strike of her gavel, she was already standing up and headed out. Zayn let out a loud sob and I saw him topple over. It was painful to watch.
As we left the courthouse, I debated whether or not to tell Jason about what happened the previous night, I knew he would scold me for going out with Harry – but at the same time, I feel as though it may help the investigation.
“Jason…” I said after we were seated in the squad car.
“Kat…” He said back, giving me a puzzled look.
“I went out with Harry last night. I’ve been…spending more time with him then I should.” I sugar coated it, he didn’t need to know the dirty details.
“I’ve noticed.” He said as he began driving.
“His alibi, you checked that out. Didn’t you?” I asked, looking over at him.
“Yeah, that Azoff guy. He said that he was there for a meeting or something like that, why do you ask?”
“Last night at the Gala, Harry and Azoff were talking and… he said something about Harry missing their meeting. . . I guess maybe he forgot he’d covered for him?”
“Oh, great. So now we find this out after we’ve put this other kid through the ringer.” Jason pulled his palm down his face before turning the car abruptly.
“What are you doing?” I yelled as I held on for dear life.
“We’re going to pay Mr. Styles a little visit.” He said menacingly.



Harry POV
My manager advised I stay out of the courtroom, he said it made me too vulnerable and there was no telling what Zayn’s hardcore fans would do to me. I agreed with him and Niall and I decided to watch it from home anyway, we had a friend who had access to the court room and facetime is a beautiful creation. I couldn’t see Kat, but I knew she was in there. I hadn’t heard from her after last night and I was feeling a little rejected.
We watched as the judge denied his bail and then he left the room sobbing, it was truly a sight.
Niall decided he was going to run into town, do a little shopping and try to see what the buzz was like.
The knock at my door was a bit of a surprise, but I wasn’t too worried about it. I had plenty of people at the gate making sure only the right people got through. I didn’t have to worry about any crazed fans at home.
I opened the door and smiled upon seeing Kat, she looked ravishing as always. My smile quickly faded when I felt the door being pushed by someone else. Her partner, Jason, gave me a fake smile.
“Detectives, what can I do for you?” I asked
“Harry, we need-“ Kat began, but was quickly cut off.
“Your alibi doesn’t check out, care to elaborate?” Jason said accusingly.
“Why would you think that?” I asked, my eyes going back to Kat. I knew that I shouldn’t have brought her with me, I knew someone would slip up somewhere.
“Last night, your manager… Mr. Azoff… he said there was no meeting on the day Shelby was murdered.” Kat said meekly, clearly feeling uncomfortable.
“I told you it was cancelled, but that doesn’t mean I didn’t go. I was in the waiting room for an hour before they told me he wouldn’t be able to make it back on time.” I reasoned.
“Oh, is that what you told us? I don’t recall that on any of the transcripts, but do not worry. We will be following up again, his office is bound to have security tapes.” Jason said as he looked me over. I didn’t like the way he was looking at me, I didn’t like the way he looked at Kat. I just didn’t like this guy.
“Come on Jason…” Kat said, grabbing him by his elbow and pulling him with her. She didn’t look at me, I felt a pang of jealousy. Of course he’d gotten into her head, it’s what men like that did.
“Not wise…” I said under my breath before slowly closing the door.
